The SpaceOur desert homestead consists of three buildings: the guest house, which contains a compact living room, bedroom, and kitchen; the annex, which contains the shower, washing machine, and freezer; and the main house, which houses your hosts. Guests have exclusive use of the composting toilet, which is housed in its own small, private shelter just steps from the guest house, and is prepared fresh for each party of guests. A visit to our guest house offers you the opportunity to enjoy strenuous activity from hiking to rock climbing, or to relax in the desert silence and enjoy a cup of tea and a good book. The guest house, which will accommodate four guests, provides a double bed, a trundle bed, a well-equipped kitchen with microwave, gas stove-top, small refrigerator, and an outdoor grill. Wireless or plug-in Internet are available here. Enjoy staying in an ancient Southwest tradition. Built from hand-crafted adobe block, finished with adobe clay plaster, and with an adobe floor, the guest house offers you an opportunity to experience desert homesteading with modern, earth-friendly conveniences. If you'd like to find out more about us and our homestead, visit our website www (dot) simp(URL HIDDEN) . Perched on the eastern Dragoon Mountain bajada just a few miles from the Cochise Stronghold and abutting public lands, the guest house offers unobstructed, panoramic views of our valley and the surrounding southern Arizona mini-mountain ranges, the Sky Islands. We're happy to cook breakfast for our guests for a moderate extra charge. A small grocery store is located in Sunsites, about ten miles away, and large chain groceries are within about 30 miles. You'll also find a cafe and pizza available in Sunsites. We occasionally allow a guest to be accompanied by a pet dog, after which we attack with the vacuum cleaner. We own a cat, who lives with us in the main house, but doesn't spend time in the guest house. Among the opportunities available to our guests are: ~Hiking in the spectacular and historic Cochise Stronghold, just a few miles from the guest house, or in Chiricahua National Monument across the valley. ~Walking out your door onto miles of trails on the wooded slopes of the Dragoon Mountains adjacent to the property. ~Spending time with the thousands of sandhill cranes that winter in the nearby Sulfur Springs Valley. ~Exploring the history of the Southwest at Fort Bowie National Historic Site, old town Bisbee, Tombstone, or the ghost towns of the Valley. ~Visiting Kartchner Caverns State Park, one of the best-preserved and spectacular cave systems in the country. ~Stargazing during our cool desert evenings through air that is some of the clearest in the country. ~Cooking hot dogs or marshmallows over an outdoor fire. ~Relaxing in the quiet as you watch the birds from the front porch. Guest AccessOur guests have access to all the facilities contained in the guesthouse and the annex, as well as a small outdoor firepit, a gas barbecue, and hiking trails which lead from our property into the nearby National Forest. Interaction with GuestsOur guests are free to determine the level of interaction they're comfortable with. As avid hikers ourselves we're very willing to guide our guests on local hikes in the Cochise Stronghold area if we're not busy elsewhere. The NeighborhoodWe love our rural neighborhood for its solitude and elbow room. We have neighbors within a few hundred yards, but also have lots of open space to the north and west of us. Getting AroundRural Cochise County has no public transit. Other Things to NoteIf you've never used a composting toilet before, don't be afraid. They're as sanitary and easy to use as any toilet you're more familiar with. Our simple composters are prepared fresh and clean for each party of guests.
