The SpaceThe Mountain House is a chalet style home that sits on over four acres on Storm Mountain. The home is approximately 2500 sq. ft. with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths, 2 living spaces, an oversized dining room table and a large kitchen with views on all sides. Winters are extra cozy by the wood burning stove. Summers are tamed by fans and open windows as cross breezes help to keep things cool! Most people on the mountains don't have air conditioners! Guest AccessUnlike some Air B&B homes, all of The Mountain House is available to our guests. With that said, this is not a party house and pets are not allowed. The owners live off property but guests will be able to contact them (via a land line or internet calling) if they need to. We reserve the right to stop by if we feel we need to check on the property. Interaction with GuestsThe owners of The Mountain House assume that their guests want their privacy and so there will be minimal interaction with them; however, if they have any questions, they are free to contact the owners. It is our desire that your stay be memorable and accommodating. The NeighborhoodThe Mountain House is located 1300 ft above Big Thompson Canyon on Storm Mountain. In the heart of the canyon below in Drake, CO., we have a little chapel, your own personal and very quaint post office, a restaurant and bar at the historic River Forks Inn. On Storm Mountain, our little community is home to about 500 residents. We have neighbors and we all share an online group that keeps us connected. Our neighborhood keeps us functioning as a community even though we all live in the mountains. We're conveniently located just 13 miles from Estes Park/RMNP and 9 miles from Loveland, CO. Getting AroundThe Mountain House is accessed by beautiful Storm Mountain Drive which is complete with 3 switchbacks and lined with guardrails. If there is snow, it can easily be maneuvered with a 4 wheel drive (with chains in the vehicle on very rare occasion). There is plenty of parking at The Mountain House. Other Things to NoteThe Mountain House is ideal for families or the artistic individual looking to get away and be inspired. With Ft. Collins, Loveland, Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park a short beautiful drive away, there are restaurants and shopping available. Storm Mountain is in Roosevelt National Forest and is the hiker and rock climbers dream! With Spruce Mountain out the front door and Palisade Mountain at your back door, we're the perfect destination for the outdoor enthusiast and are quite self contained regarding things to do right here! At The Mountain House you might also have a front row seat of the migration of elk that frequent our high mountain valley. Occasionally you can hear the call of the coyote and if you're lucky you might see an occasional bear or big horn sheep as you drive up the access road.

Interaction with GuestsYou may be interacting with one of my daughters once you have booked but we are all available to assist you should you need anything. Most of us are in Fort Collins which is about an hour away. We look forward to hosting you in our peaceful mountain home! The NeighborhoodThe house is secluded but it is in a residential area. It is a great area to take a walk on the road and there is access to hiking trails. Or just sit outside and enjoy the scenery. Other Things to Note-The road construction on Highway 43 is virtually complete, so driving in the area should be easier than it was for the first part of summer 2016. -There are not grocery stores in the immediate area we will provide you with recommendations on where to shop before you arrive. There is a general store with some of the basics about a 10 minute drive. -The well-maintained dirt roads in the neighborhood are a bit windy and they climb and descend, but there is no need for a 4WD vehicle. -This is a nonsmoking home. Smoking is not permitted inside or anywhere on or near the property. Forest fires are a major risk in the area. There are fire bans imposed on a regular basis.

The SpaceOur house is nestled in a valley with mountains surrounding the property. It is a community with neighbors close by but not too close. It is unique in that we are off the beaten path but have access to all city conveniences within a half hour drive. We are going to have road construction on Hwy. 34 between Loveland and Estes Park but there will be times to pass through this Big Thompson Canyon area. Just ask us for the schedule. Guest AccessYou will have access to all but two storage areas on or attached to the property. Interaction with GuestsWe will have a property manager close by to help with any problems. We will be available by cell phone: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) or (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). The NeighborhoodWe have neighbors nearby but everyone pretty much stays to themselves. We will leave local emergency numbers as well as the number for the property manager. Other Things to NoteIf you're staying in the winter it is advisable to have all wheel or four wheel drive. Front wheel drive works but is not as reliable on the road to our house. There will be snow from time-to-time but the roads will be plowed. We have a person who will plow the driveway if needed. Our house is at 7,000 feet and the snowfall can be a few inches to a couple of feet. There is no designated sledding area around our house. Estes Park has more snowfall than Drake so people from the Drake area can go sledding at the Hidden Valley Snow Play Area in Rocky Mountain National Park which is near Estes Park, CO. It is open from 10 a.m. To 4 p.m. 7 days a week. You can rent sleds in Estes Park or bring your own but they don't allow sleds with metal runners. Estes Park is only about 17 miles from our house. To get to Hidden Valley you drive through Estes Park to the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park and pay an entrance fee of $30 which is good for one week. The website is (URL HIDDEN)
