I live with my wife and twenty year old daughter in the sea side town of Bray Co. Wicklow, Ireland. My house is approximately two minutes walk to the beach and promenade. The train and bus station are situated close by and easily accessible as is the town and shopping centre. It is no exaggeration to state that Bray is the gateway to the garden of Ireland of which the county of Wicklow is internationally famous. The house has a spare sitting room which is available to the guest . I conduct a lot of walks and visits throughout Dublin and Wicklow and have bicycles available for short cycling tours e.t.c. Interested in receiving one to one tutoring in learning English and arranging meals and other activities as part of your stay? I will contact you directly (after you have booked your accommodation online through Homestay.com) to work out a program schedule that will work for us both. I am an experienced registered teacher.

The SpaceThe Mermaids’ Retreat is a unique homestay situated right on the seafront in Bray. Originally a Victorian fisherman’s cottage, the house is right beside the promenade and beautiful walks around Bray Head. It’s also surrounded by great bars, ice cream parlours and restaurants. Dublin City Centre is just a 35 minute train ride away and the house is only a few minutes’ walk from the train and bus stations. The AirCoach also provides 24 hour access to Dublin Airport. I have two rooms that I am offering to short term guests through AirBnB. This room is small and cosy with a bunk bed that accommodates 1 or 2 people. It is often the most popular room with visitors as it has a great view of the Irish Sea! Guests love to lie in bed and watch the sun rising over the ocean or leave the window open and listen to the sea as they go to sleep. The other room has a double bed with a view of Bray Head at the back of the house. The other rooms in the house are occupied by myself and an adorable dog called Finn. I also keep marine animals in aquaria in the 'fish room' off the kitchen for my work as a marine biologist with Marine Dimensions educating the public about sea life. Guests do not have access to this area but I would be delighted to introduce you to the animals if you would like to meet them! If you love nature and the sea you will love this house! Guest AccessThe kitchen, bathroom and sitting room are shared areas. I provide self service coffee, tea, cereal and toast for breakfast. You are also welcome to use the kitchen to prepare meals at lunchtime and in the evenings. However, I do request that you make an effort to speak English if myself or any other members of the household are dining there at the same time. My dog may also join you for a while. ;) There are some musical instruments in the sitting room; a piano, guitar and a djembe. I love music and like to hear people playing. Although please note that the piano is very personal for me so I do request that you treat it with extra care. There is also a great selection of board games that you are welcome to use. I have just started running vintage board game evenings which are a lot of fun. Also please feel free to browse through my collection of hard backs on the coffee table. Interaction with GuestsThe atmosphere in the house is laid back, creative and nurturing. I take pride in providing a home that values people from a wide range of backgrounds. I am always interested to hear about other peoples' life experiences. The homestay name, The Mermaids' Retreat, is designed to reflect this.
