The SpaceInspired by my trip to the Faroe Islands in 2013 and my love of the Viking Age, this is your perfect one of a kind rustic glamping experience. This small 144 sq foot Nordic inspired cabin is located ~50 yards behind my house on 11 acres of mixed hardwood and evergreens. You will have your own driveway, garden, fridge and cookstove. I provide coffee and tea as well as light breakfast foods: yogurt, granola, or oatmeal. Your driveway is unmarked and steep, it is located on the same side of the street one up from mine to the north. If you cannot make it up, just park in mine and walk back. You will need snow tires in the winter! Sleeps 2 adults on a queen size futon and there is a loft for a toddler or young child. Here you can enjoy hiking around the woods, picking blackberries and relaxing in Vermont's pristine beauty. Situated 30 min north of Montpelier. Peaceful, rustic simplicity. Enjoy a fire in your own fire pit and take in the stars! No light pollution. Wild turkeys, bats, hawks, deer, and even black bears are seen in these woods. Great for couples, writers or backpackers. *****Wifi is dubious and cell service is a hit or miss. If you have Verizon, you will have much better luck than At&T or Tmobile.**** No indoor plumbing, but a Coleman hot water on demand 5 gallon system for washing hands/dishes/face etc. There is an outhouse behind the cabin. Showers, laundry and more extensive cooking can happen in the main house. Fire pit and barbecue available for use during the spring through fall. Gorgeous woods to hike or snowshoe through. I have one pair for you to borrow. I enjoy meeting new people, but do not need to socialize with you. I get that people come to get away and I want to honor your privacy. I will let you know my availability if you need help or recommendations for places to visit etc. Depending on the season, you may see me in the backyard. East Calais is a small one store town in central Vermont. There is a gas station/general store 5 min drive from the cabin, but otherwise, you are out in the woods on dirt roads. We are a 30 min drive from Montpelier, and a 1 hour drive from Stowe and Jay Peak ski resorts. There is a lovely winery, Grandview, a few miles away and the delicious Bohemian Bakery just down the road for a Sunday coffee and pastry treats. The village of Plainfield is a 15 minute drive away and has restaurants, bars and some shops etc. There is no public transport in this part of Vermont. You will need snow tires in the winter and AWD preferably as the cabin is located on dirt roads (thought they are well maintained), but in the summer and fall this is not necessary. The cabin is located about 50 yards behind my home. You have your own driveway and it is one past mine to the north but is unmarked. It is steep and in the winter will likely not be drivable. Please park in my driveway in the winter months and walk back. Snow tires and/or AWD are a must in the winter. Interaction with GuestsGive a call with any questions. We would love to help out! The NeighborhoodThere are lake cabins and year round houses spotted all along the lake. The swimming is fantastic. This year we took a dip in late May, which is normally way too cold! We are lucky to have nesting loons inhabit the lake. Getting AroundA car is needed. Other Things to Note*The drive in to camp is one lane only in some places. People who live here are used to accommodating other cars. When 2 cars meet, the one with easiest access to pull over or back up should do so.

The SpaceThis old brick farm house was built in 1810 by Nathanial Bancroft, a local mill owner. It has been in my family for 75 years, enjoyed by 4 generations so far. There is heft in its construction, with (sometimes uneven) wooden floors and lathe and plaster walls. It is rustic, e.g., interior doors have old thumb latches, rather than knobs and locks. Furnished with old furniture pieces as shown in photos. Wood burning stove in case it is cold. A few fans in case it is hot. Interaction with GuestsI'll be available via email and phone at any time. I can call upon neighbors to assist if any issues need attention.
