The SpaceMy apartment is surprisingly large for inner city apartments & with the combination of the outdoor courtyard to feel the sunshine on your face in the mornings, I think it's a great place to be. It's unbelievably quiet, in a residential building but has immediate access to cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, bush, public transport right at your door. We've designed the interior ourselves with careful consideration to the creature comforts that make all the difference to your stay. Guest AccessMy locals tips on my favourite spots in the area. One of things I love about airbnb is that it gives you the opportunity to experience a city as a local. In amongst the best neighbourhood (Collingwood / Fitzroy), you've got access to the best that Melbourne has to offer & when I'm traveling abroad, I really value the hosts recommendations on where to go, so I hope you do too! I also leave myki cards for guests to use for the Melbourne public transport system which saves guests having to fork out $7 just to obtain a card so all you need to do is top up the ones I leave for you. Too easy! :-) Interaction with GuestsI'm available by email, phone or text for as often or as little as you need. I live just around the corner so can be at the apartment in a jiffy if needed. I'm happy to answer any questions before, during or after your stay to make your stay at my apartment more comfortable. The NeighborhoodTHE NEIGHBOURHOOD: Collingwood / Fitzroy: Take a short walk to explore local hip neighbourhoods and streets around these iconic areas (Brunswick street, Johnston street, Gertrude street and Smith Street) for amazing local eateries, bars, shopping, markets, graffiti and street art. Getting to grips with this microcosm of the best bits of Fitzroy / Collingwood is equal parts time consuming and rewarding. Abbotsford: One of Melbourne's best kept secrets - tucked away behind the serenity of the Yarra River and parkland, yet with easy access to everything by foot, bike, train or taxi. Featuring the historic Abbotsford Convent building and gardens, which hosts farmers markets, night markets, an open air cinema, bar and more. You'll find some great restaurants here as well, including a pay-as-you-feel restaurant called ‘Lentil as Anything There's also an artesian bakery that uses an original oven from 1901 to bake seriously great wood fired bread daily! Take the walking tracks behind the convent beside the Yarra river, past the community garden and through the Collingwood children's farm. The farm not only has one of Melbourne's best cafés on offer, you'll see cows, sheep, goats and ponies, you will feel like you're in the Australian countryside, yet it's only a few kilometres from the CBD! For a taste of something more exotic head just down the road to Victoria Street where you can find many different Asian cuisines, most famous for great Vietnamese restaurants, however you'll also find some great gastropubs and bars here too. Richmond: Bridge Road (once famous for discount shopping, now known more for cafes and restaurants) is a few blocks away (2 train stops) as is Swan Street (the grungier side of Richmond with great pubs, cool bars, live gigs and sports fans from the sport precinct). For sports enthusiasts it's only a five minute train ride to the famous MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) where you can catch an Aussie Rules Football match in Winter, or the cricket in Summer. Also in the sport precinct are AAMI Park, the Melbourne Tennis Centre (the world famous Australian Tennis Open is held each year throughout January) and Olympic Park - hosting almost every sport you can imagine between them. Needless to say we have loads of great places to recommend. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Getting AroundWe have secure under cover parking available for all guests (Maximum height 1.8 metres) 109 tram almost directly outside the front door that takes you to the CBD (10 mins) and St Kilda North Richmond train station approx 150 metres from the front door that can get you to the city in just 7 minutes. There is no shortage of public transport that can take you to almost anywhere you'd like to go in this wonderful city of Melbourne. There are also beautiful bicycle & walking tracks close by that run along the Yarra River so although you're in the inner city, you can access the bush within minutes. One of my favourite things to do on the weekend is jump on my bicycle, ride along the river to the gorgeous Kew or Fairfield boat shed for coffee & ice cream.

The SpaceHi there, This listing is for all of Level 3 in my large 3 level home just off the wonderful Gertrude Street, comprising double bedroom, private ensuite, wee study & balcony. (I have 2 rooms available - the other listing is 'Fabulous Fitzroy, Gorgeous Gertrude' listing #150729). This is an excellent spot for guests in Melbourne for a short time who want to live like a local. Or for those lucky folk who are moving to Melbourne (nice choice!) it's a great landing pad while you look for something permanent. Located in between action-packed Brunswick and Smith Streets, this is a fantastic, diverse area full of great cafes, restaurants, wonderful local pubs, art galleries, parks, live music venues, decent architecture and the Melbourne Museum. The beloved #86 tram (our 'tramily') and #12 are just at the end of the road giving easy access to other parts of this wonderfully liveable city. The house has all the mod cons mixed in with vintage collectables. And rare in Melbourne in that it is very light and bright. Guests are welcome to help themselves to the dining room, lounge room and balconies on Level 2, as well as the kitchen which has organic breads & from our local Fatto A Mano organic bakery (where I work part-time). If you want to cook there are some basics in the cupboard above the oven and herbs in the garden to get you started and plenty of cupboard & fridge space. Breakfast - help yourself to the organic breads, spreads, juice, bonsoy & fair-trade teas and coffee. The kitchen lights are tucked between the linen cupboard and the kitchen wall, on the dining room side. Bins are under the kitchen sink. As I Airbnb the front room on the ground floor of the house, you might see me, or other guests, in the kitchen or elsewhere on Level 2. But no-one comes to Melbourne to "cook and watch TV" so it's likely you might not see any of us at all (but you are welcome to cook and watch tv!). FROM THE AIRPORT - I recommend "StarBus Airport Shuttle" which brings you right into Fitzroy, operating from 5am till 7pm, 7 days. Cut and paste StarBus Airport Shuttle into your search engine for more info. Or a taxi for approx $60 is the fastest. Fitzroy is a wonderful, diverse, energetic area. Needless to say, I love it here, I'm sure you will too! Cheers, Ramona. Smoking: strictly outside on the dining room balcony only please, with the doors closed :) Children: not suited sorry Guests: please check with myself and other Airbnb guests first Guest AccessLevel 1 - front door access and laundry (my rooms and other guest room) Level 2 - shared dining room, lounge, kitchen & 2 large balconies Level 3 - your own bedroom, bathroom, wee balcony & study Interaction with GuestsThis is a very independent set up. My rooms and another guest room is on Level 1. We are all usually out and about enjoying Melbourne so it can be rare we run into each other but I'm always contactable on my phone :) The NeighborhoodOne of Melbourne's smallest urban areas, Fitzroy, is a real treasure of old and new, working class and gentrification, historic preservation and modern architecture. Right next to the city with the Fitzroy and Carlton gardens in between, it's never boring but very relaxed. If on the odd occasion it's a bit noisy there are ear plugs in your bedside tables. Diversity, cafes, boutiques, galleries, pubs, parks, restaurants, cocktail bars, music, street art = good vibes. Getting AroundThere is so much to offer in Fitzroy you could spend most of your time getting around on foot. I've left a local guide and map in your room and marked a square around the main Fitzroy Streets as a start. The 86 or 112 trams go straight into the city in about 10 minutes. Hire a bike from Little Creatures or one of the blue Melbourne Bike Share stations. Taxi or Uber Or if you have a car my Visitor's Parking Permit might be available - first in first served! Other Things to NoteIt's a good idea to check Melbourne's weather report before you arrive, we really can have "all seasons in 1 day" so it's wise to bring something warm even for those summer nights. I recommend the app 'Weatherzone'. Help yourself to the umbrellas at the end of the stairs!

The SpaceLocated in East Melbourne, one of the oldest, most established and arguably the most exclusive area in Melbourne, on the eastern skirts (known as the 'Paris End') of the city. The open-plan two-floor loft is located in an 100 year old brewery building, having been given a complete make-over, including a spanking new kitchen. What do you get? You name it, this apartment has it - in spades. Or should that be 'in bottles'. Old brewery, bottles.. oh well.. – 2 x full size bedrooms both with fitted wardrobes, one with a walk-in-wardrobe and dressing room. – 2 x exquisite bathrooms. – Brand new kitchen, european appliances, breakfast bar, separate dinning area. – One large study with desk which can also be used as a third bedroom - including a separate fold-down single bed, doubling as an ottoman/chair. – Full laundry with new washer and condenser dryer; iron and ironing board. Other stuff: Broadband internet, large-screen LCD TV, decent DVD library, Movies/TV on Demand (Apple TV, iTunes), Bose Music system (bring your own iPod or login into Spotify); Coffee Machine (Nespresso). And all the basics - organic teas, Five Senses filter coffee, milk, sugar, fresh juices, breakfast cereals, jams, sparkling water. Also a Nespresso machine/capsules - which you won't need of course, since you're now in the heart of the coffee capital of the world! There is a cafe and boutique supermarket (IGA) two mins from the front door; elevated glass-bottomed heated (its really warm!) lap-pool; gym; lovely wine bar; liquor (bottle) shop; secure undercover car parking (own space); hairdresser. Even a dentist. All on site. The Neighbourhood: Take a short walk across beautiful Fitzroy Gardens (great for jogging), Melbourne's best loved and best known park, to the city. It will take you 15-20 mins on a slow, sight-seeing kind of day. Buses and trams stop 20 metres from the apartment if you'd like a more sedate means of getting around. Ten minutes (walking) from Melbourne Park and the Australian Tennis Open (in January); minutes from Melbourne's major concert venues (great for the big international names); within shouting distance of our largest sports venues (heaven for fans of international cricket, soccer and Aussie Rules Footy). Ten minutes from the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Come to think of it, maybe we should call it the 'ten minute to everything' apartment! What do I like best about the neighbourhood? The parks, the trees, the quiet. And I love that we are on the city's edge in a safe, friendly and caring neighbourhood. A city apartment without the noise, the nightclubs and the nuts that inhabit the city after dark. But especially without the noise. Eats, coffee and clothes: Where do you find the best coffee in Australia? Melbourne. Of course. Even Sydney-siders will agree. And where in Melbourne are the best cafes? Well, perhaps this is a little contentious.. but most will start by naming Fitzroy and Collingwood. Which of course, are just 10 mins from the apartment! Just across the adjacent (Victoria Parade) street you'll find the hearts of Getrude, Brunswick and Smith Streets. Where Melbourne sophisticates live, eat, shop and just hang out, always with a coffee or three. We're also on the edge of Collingwood (very 'in' just now) and Richmond (Bridge Road), home to all major brand outlets. Naming the best (within 10 mins walk of our apartment): Ladro for incredible, gourmet pizza (Gertrude St); 5 star serious dinning at Cutler & Co (Getrude St); Anada (Gertrude St), the best Spanish this side of Barcelona; Huxtaburger (Smith Street) for amazing burgers; Trippy Taco for cheap, healthy eats/ take-out (Mexican, Gertrude St); De Clieu (Gertrude St) for leisurely lunches, b'fasts and fantastic coffee; Allpress Espresso - brand new cafe and roasters, great coffee, gorgeous lunches (although not a big menu) and an outside grass area to relax, open from 7am (Rupert Street, Collingwood); Aunt Maggies, your local organic store/supermarket (Gertrude St), specialising in vegan soups and all things healthy; Fatto a Mano, the best Italian organic bread and cake shop, known for its pies, pastries and Italian style take-out pizza-slices (Gertrude again..); And there is of course, Spacecraft (Gertrude St) for unique art and homewear designs all by the amazing Stewart Russell. Sadly no coffee or food at Stewart's place.. Whatever you do, don't go past Proud Mary in Oxford Street, Collingwood (15 mins walk) for brilliant breakfasts, fresh juices and possibly the best coffee in the city (yes, I know - yet another great coffee place). Proud Mary IS Melbourne - you'll want to come back again.. and again! Bars (yep, all just 10 mins away): Enoteca, discrete smallish wine bar on Gertrude Street; The Everleigh, 1920s speakeasy-style bar straight out of NYC, Gertrude St; Little Creatures Dining Hall (Brunswick Street), for boutique beers and cheap'ish eats; Southpaw (Gertrude Street), laid back sort of place. Too hot for the city? If its the sea and bayside you crave.. the 109 and 96 trams will take you to Port Melbourne (which has 'summer, seaside and fish and chips written all over it) and St Kilda (busy beaches, Luna Park funfair and some of the best Gelatti outlets). Both just 30-40 mins away by tram. And guess what? Both trams pass within spitting distance of our apartment.. Getting around: City (109) and beach (109, 96) Trams and Buses all stop almost outside our door, on Victoria Parade (Street), just 30 seconds away from the apartment's main entrance on Powlett Street. For tram and train travel purchase a MyKi (same as UK Oyster, Singapore's EZ-link and HK's Octopus) card from the local IGA for $5.00 and then top-up online, at IGA, any 7/11 store or rail train station. Download the 'Tramtracker' app FREE, to get live updates on when trams are due. Invaluable. Richmond train stations (there are more than one) are a 15 min walk away, serving most of the eastern, southern and northern suburbs. And then there is Melbourne Bike Share for those of you feeling you'd rather see the sights or just get around the city on two wheels. Bikes can be found at Jolimont Station (10 mins away) at the other end of Powlett Street; or closer to the city (10-15 mins) on Victoria Parade/Brunswick Street; and also at the top of Albert Street (where it meets Nicholson Street). Wrap up: Everything you could possibly want to do in Melbourne is all within about 3 kms of the apartment. Including a walk along the Yarra river. What about you? If you are tempted to stay, please include a line about yourself and what brings you here. It'd be good to know just a little about those with whom we are sharing our sparkling home. I'm here to help: If there is anything missing from your stay, I'm just a short distance away and happy to help out. I'll meet you to handover the keys and to give an introduction to the apartment, our wifi, use of the Apple TV/iTunes, 'what button does what' on the remotes, access to the swimming pool and gym.. and to answer any questions. I'll also check-in a few times (by txt - not in person, so don't worry!) during your stay just to ensure everything is as it should be. Please.. Treat our home with the care and respect you'd want others to treat yours. It is new, freshly painted, with a brand new kitchen and top of the range appliances throughout. And if there is anything at all that goes wrong, with anything, please let me know straight away. Guest AccessWhat can guests use? Everything! Wifi, Apple TV, films (loads of DVDs and FREE access to iTunes films/TV shows), laptop and the contents of our fridge and pantry (try to replace stuff where you can - but no sweat if you can't). Interaction with GuestsI'll be present for the handover of keys and to give an introduction to the apartment, our wifi, use of the Apple TV/iTunes, 'what button does what' on the remotes, access to the swimming pool and gym.. and to answer any questions.
