The SpaceCome share our 3+ Bedroom, 2 bath San Francisco Bay Area home with us. We are located in East Richmond Heights in unincorporated Contra Costa county, just a couple of blocks from the El Cerrito border. It's a quaint area that has the feeling of being in a secluded mountain town, yet it is close to Berkeley, Oakland and downtown San Francisco. Just a couple of blocks away is Wildcat Canyon, a large 3,000+ acre park with lots of trails for hiking, biking, and picnics. It stretches all the way to Berkeley and connects to Tilden Park. Because we are high in the hills, it's best if you have a car – though it is entirely possible to arrive and get around without a car. El Cerrito del Norte is the closest BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station, and the SF Transbay Bus Service is just a few blocks away (AC Transit Line H). We are renting one bedroom with a Queen sized bed, and you will have your own bathroom during your stay (right across the hall). Guest AccessThe living room, kitchen, washer and dryer, and backyard of the house are shared with our guests. We provide off street parking in our driveway. We have high speed internet access and you are welcome to use our Netflix account. Interaction with GuestsJust make yourself at home, and treat the house as if it were your own. Our only rule is no shoes in the house, we like to keep the floors clean. Slippers are available if you want them. The NeighborhoodSafe, friendly neighbors, plenty of space, quiet. The largest Tibetan Buddhist Monastery in the Bay Area is right around the corner. There are great hiking and biking trails nearby that offer amazing views of San Francisco, the Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, and Marin. You can walk to the trailhead in a few minutes. Berkeley and Oakland are easily accessible, as is downtown San Francisco (17 miles away crossing the Bay Bridge). There are some good restaurants and bars nearby. Fieldwork Brewing, Elevation 66, The Rare Barrel, and Westbrae Biergarten for the beer aficionados. There are Vietnamese restaurants, Thai, Chinese, Mexican, El Salvadoran, Spanish, Korean. Chez Panisse in Berkeley is a few miles away, if you want to go upscale. The 4th Street Shops in Berkeley and Solano Avenue areas (great for strolling) are close by and offer unique shopping and restaurants. The Hotsy Totsy, and Club Mallard provide good local nightlife options. Taking BART or driving into Oakland or SF will expand that list exponentially. Getting AroundThe El Cerrito Del Norte BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station is a 3 minute drive and offers plenty of parking. You can leave your car there and take the train to downtown SF if you don't want to drive. The station is also accessible via the 7 bus line (8 minutes away, walking). It's about a 25-30 minutes if you walk all the way to the BART station. The AC Transit H Transbay Bus provides a direct connection to downtown San Francisco during commuting hours Monday - Friday. We take the bus everyday to commute to work, it is clean and convenient. The bus stop is an 8 minute walk from the house (same as the 7 line). Uber and taxis are also available in the neighborhood. Traveling distances and time by car are as follows: Berkeley: 5 miles / 11 minutes Oakland: 12 miles / 18 minutes San Francisco: 17 miles / 27 minutes Napa: 30 miles / 41 minutes Lake Tahoe: 172 miles / 3 hours Times may vary based on traffic, of course. Sometimes it makes more sense to drive to BART and take the subway in, or to just take the Transbay Bus - it depends. We can offer you advice on that since we commute daily to SF. Other Things to NoteWe have a 5 month old baby at home. Emi is adorable, and although you might hear a squeak or a little cry here or there, she does usually sleep through the night. We also have a puppy at our home, her name is Pica. She is very sweet and friendly, everybody loves her. She is medium sized, about 50lbs. She stays outside a lot during the day in the backyard, but we do let her in in the evenings because there are wild animals around at night (raccoons, deer, etc).

Traveling distances and time by car are as follows: Berkeley: 5 miles / 11 minutes Oakland: 12 miles / 18 minutes San Francisco: 16 miles / 27 minutes Napa: 30 miles / 41 minutes Lake Tahoe: 172 miles / 3 hours Times will vary based on traffic, of course. Sometimes it makes more sense to drive to BART and take the subway in, or to just take the Transbay Bus - it depends. We can offer you advice on that since we commute daily to SF. Other Things to NoteWe have a 8 month old baby at home. Emi is adorable and generally is very interested in our guests. In the cottage you won't hear any crying, that's a plus vs the other room we rent. We also have a puppy at our home, her name is Pica. She is very sweet and friendly, everybody loves her. She is medium sized, about 50lbs. She stays outside a lot during the day in the backyard, but we let her in in the evenings because can be wild animals around at night (raccoons, deer, etc).

The SpaceYou will have near 1500sq ft of private space. If you want to rent only one bedroom, arrangements can be made at half the rate. However the other bedroom could possibly be rented at the same time, and then the living area and bathroom would be shared. The house itself is below street level, and very private. However, there are stairs both down to the entrance of the main house, and again to the lower apartment. (one short, easy flight each level) One bedroom has a Queen bed, the other a full bed. An air mattress and/or pack in play can be provided free of charge if needed. There is a couch and a chair in the living area. There is a safety gate separating the upper level from the lower at the top of the stairs for those with pets (or wandering children). The backyard is completely enclosed but does wrap around unobstructed to the front courtyard along the side of the house. The courtyard is also fully enclosed. However, both yard spaces would probably not prevent small pets from getting out (wrought iron gates, and small spaces under fencing) We can provide a small pet carrier free of charge upon request. Guest AccessGuests have 2 bedrooms, a full bathroom with shower and tub, and a living area space with a sliding door out to the backyard available to them. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer downstairs which can be arranged to be used if needed. We supply an electric hot water kettle, french press, tea, and coffee. A small refrigerator, microwave oven or toaster oven can be provided if notified ahead of time. Use of the kitchen upstairs can also be arranged for use upon request. There is a projector which can be used to view movies or shows from your lap top, apple tv etc. Interaction with GuestsWe prefer to stay out of the way and give guests their space, we have 3 kids and a large super sweet dog, so it can be a bit overwhelming if we don't. However, we love meeting travelers and are always available to help with anything needed. We are out and about a lot, and sometimes out of town during your stay so will not always be here to greet upon arrival. The NeighborhoodWe are surrounded by parks and nature, experience amazing sunsets over Mt Tam, the bay, and Angel Island, yet close to everything city. The Gourmet Ghetto, for great restaurant options, in Berkeley is a 10 min drive down Arlington ave. Tassajara Park and Canyon trail park are great children's play parks, and within short walking distance (dogs are welcome there too, on a leash),Wildcat Canyon Regional Park runs just behind the house, down to Tilden Regional park. Both with great hiking trails etc. Tilden Regional park offers hiking and biking trails, Lake Anza for swimming etc, a merry-go-round, petting zoo, and a little train. There is a small market off of Arlington Ave a few blocks away for quick grocery runs, and several supermarkets down the hill near San Pablo ave. Getting AroundAlthough this is more of a car friendly neighborhood because we are in the hills, Both the express bus with wifi (goes directly to Berkeley and then SF city), and the local bus pick up at the end of our street, 3 houses away. Del Norte Bart is down the hill. Super easy access to the 80 and 580 fwys make it easy to venture out. Uber picks up here as well, its about a $3-$5 ride to Bart if you don't want to walk, and around $40 to go all the way into San Francisco. Also, plenty of cyclists bike around through these hills, it is an option.
