The SpaceRoom, which was the library when the home was built, is in a historic whaling captain's home erected in 1840 and the Giant Pagoda tree he brought back for his wife from China in the late 1830's sits outside the unit's windows. The tree is now the largest of it's type in the U.S.. Guest AccessAs guest of an owner, you will have free parking, access to a full kitchen with all dishes and cooking utensils, including free coffee and outdoor bbq grils. Interaction with GuestsNot much as we live in San Francisco and our unit is on Martha's Vineyard on the East Coast. The NeighborhoodVery historic, safe and quiet. Walking around after dark is very romantic among the old historic homes and beautiful Edgartown Harbor which is much the same as it was in the 1800's. Getting AroundSome public transit, but great for biking or touring the Island by car. Other Things to NoteBy September, the ocean temps have warmed up and are great for swimming. The majority of tourists have also left the Island after Labor Day and the local kids are back in school meaning less traffic and crowds at the shops and restaurants. Great fishing, sailing, windsurfing and site seeing.

I have contractors in every field who will take care of (fix, replace and install) anything that goes wrong with the home. 6. I have a storeroom filled with replacement small appliances like toaster ovens, coffee makers, etc. Another goal is to insure that you find NOTHING wrong with the home! And if you do, I will fix or replace it quickly! 7. I have a “guaranteed” clean policy!!! Call me immediately after you find anything NOT up to your expectations and we will be over to take care the issue. Even if you are renting my home for 2 nights, I urge you to let me know if anything does NOT meet your expectations. My goal is to get a FIVE STAR rating from you. Thanks for making me a SUPER HOST STATUS. Please let me know how I can improve the quality of your stay at my home BEFORE you travel home! 8. The SpaceThis renovated 1840’s farmhouse is located on Herring Creek Farm. Enjoy the peace and tranquility of one of the most exclusive locations on the Island. The house has 4+ bedroom and 3 bathroom and is on 4 acres with private beach rights to South Beach and Edgartown Great Pond. Downstairs includes an TV room, formal dining room, large kitchen and open family room (32 x 24) with table with seating for 8. Upstairs has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Relax on the patio overlooking the horses and open land. In fact, there is one open stall that guests may rent (for an additional fee) to house their horse. The property includes a 3 stall barn with 3 separate pastures, an outdoor riding ring and an outdoor cross country course. Imagine the early morning ride on the beach before breakfast. Welcome to the Main House on Herring Creek Farm. Our family has enjoyed this home and farm since 1947 (at least my grand parents). I hope your visit is relaxing and fun. The original section of the house was built in 1840 and the big room was added in 1970. I hope you love the farm and our house as much as we do. Herring Creek Farm - ''In 2001, the Nature Conservancy purchased 215 acres of Great Plains farmland for $64 Million. It still stands as the highest single price paid for a piece of real estate on the Vineyard'' Martha's Vineyard Real Estate Yearbook 2012 - page 33. Guest AccessEnjoy what Herring Creek Farm has to offer. Tenants have access to the private beach, all the country roads and the serenity of the farm. If you would like to find out more about the farm or family, bring a glass of wine and join us at the Adirondack chairs. Interaction with GuestsIf you need something, ask – we probably have it or can find someone that has it. If you have questions or any problems, please call me at ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) – I am here to help you. The NeighborhoodMy grandfather purchased Herring Creek Farm which included this property in 1947. While he sold the majority of the farm in 1969, his children, and subsequently his grandchildren and beyond, have always considered 'The Farm' a place where we can relax and reinvigorate themselves. Our family has opened up the opportunity to your family to enjoy everything we have enjoyed for over 60 years. Getting AroundClose to bike path and VTA (Vineyard Transit Authority).

The SpaceThis quaint and rustic cottage is located on six untouched acres on Edgartown Great Pond. This rental comes with a private boat landing on the property. The pond is just 5 min walk from the cottage with 3 kayaks available for your use. Kayak across the pond to a pristine private part of the South shore beach. Or the public South beach access is just 1.5 miles drive, walk or bike-ride away. Historic downtown Edgartown is 3 miles away. You drive through a small scenic farm and conservation property on the way in to the cottage. Bike paths line the main road to the beach and into town. The location is quiet and secluded. June is available at $1600 per week. July and August weeks are available at $2,200 per week Enjoy your own private boat landing on beautiful Edgartown Great Pond with sitting area just a short stroll from the cottage. 3 Kayaks are available for your use on Edgartown Great Pond, comes with the cottage rental at no extra charge. Very private location, just a mile and a half from famous South Beach. Only 3 miles to quaint historic downtown Edgartown. I will meet you when you arrive, give you a tour of the property and pond landing, I am happy to orient you to the area. Other then that you have complete privacy. I am just a phone call away if you need anything. The rustic cottage heralds back to 1930, originally a duck hunting cabin. The neighborhood has become a private upscale enclave, surrounded by conservation land and a small farm. Access to Edgartown Great Pond is just steps away from the cottage. The pond is great for kayaking and swimming. You can kayak across the pond to a gorgeous and pristine private beach. I recommend bringing a car. Also renting bikes is fun because the public beach is a close bike ride away and quaint historic Edgartown is only 3 miles from the house. The area is very flat and wide bike paths line the road to beach and town. There is a bus that picks up and drops off about 3/4 of a mile away. The bus can take you to town (or the beach, which is so close anyway). In Edgartown the bus system can take you all over the island. The SpaceThe Captain Morse House is a classic in town vacation rental. We are just 2 blocks to town and 3 blocks to the beach. There are 26 rooms, 11 bedrooms, 7 baths, 2 kitchens 2 dining rooms, 2 front porches and a very large yard. We are steps from Edgartown harbor and the town docks. Our backyard is one of the largest in town and features a patio with seating for 24. We are one of the best vacation homes on the island with a superb location. I encourage you to contact me to discuss your vacation. The Captain Morse House is large luxurious vacation rental home, at the corner of Morse and North Water streets. It is one of Edgartown's finest homes having been built in 1840 for Captain John Osborne Morse. This exquisitely detailed home is perfect for your dream vineyard vacation and a superb example of the grand homes built by the New England Whaling Captains. Modern amenities and central air conditioning mean comfort and relaxation. The home features eleven bedrooms and seven full baths on three floors, a formal living room and dining room, a family room, a game room, and two new gourmet kitchens all tastefully decorated with period furnishings and artwork. Current accommodations can handle up to 23 people in 14 beds. With less people your vacation is closer to the way that discerning visitors enjoyed the home in years gone by when it was a private summer residence. Outside of the home on the North Water side facing the water are two spacious porches with partial water views of Edgartown Harbor and the Chappy Ferry. The harbor and Morse Street dock is just down the street. The backyard is one of Edgartown's largest and features a spacious bricked patio where you can enjoy a barbecue, croquet and other lawn games. There is off street parking for three cars (one large and 2-3 small). We are committed to doing whatever I can to make your stay on Martha's Vineyard a special one. Our house is one of the best available in town and offers any visitor a truly unique island experience. Judging from our annual sell out our guests agree as well. See complete information at (URL HIDDEN) The rental includes the entire house however we do have the ability to split the front from the back as there are two complete kitchens in the home. This is normally only done during the off season. You will see it mentioned as such in the description. There is a caretaker who is available for emergencies. I am available by telephone or email for questions. The home is what is called the Village area of Edgartown. We are perfectly located just 3 blocks from Main St. Edgartown and 2 Blocks from the Lighthouse Beach. At the foot of Morse Street is The Edgartown Wharf and a marina where you can access the harbor just as if it was your own dock. The stately white Greek Revival houses built by the whaling captains have been carefully maintained. They make the town a museum-piece community, a seaport village preserved from the early 19th century. We provide bikes. There is a driveway that can handle 3-4 cars. (No parking onsite if sharing the back of the house. Getting to Martha's Vineyard Make your plans early. Get Ferry Reservations as soon as they are available in January of each year. Allow plenty of time. If you rush about it makes it stressful for all involved. If you get to Woods Hole early for your boat it is fun to check out the town. Walk over the bridge to the North West of the town and explore the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. Have a relaxing meal at one of their excellent restaurants. These are just some of the restaurants along the way – from North to South Sandys at 7 Bourne Road under the Bridge Cape Cod Bagel Company - 419 Palmer Ave Falmouth Landfall Restaurant - Woods Hole Cars are not needed for a trip to Martha’s Vineyard You can do it all on island without a car. There are plenty of cabs that come when they are called and they use 15 passenger vans for the most part. The MV bus system is really good and a short walk from the house. The cost and hassle of taking a car to the island through the Steamship authority (the only way to do it) is often way more than taking a cab anywhere you want to go (rainy day in Oak Bluffs, grocery shopping etc., out to a bar.) If you have to have your car then there is no substitute for making early ferry reservations on the Steamship Authority website. Take the time to make an online account and do it that way. Waiting on the phone is normally torture. If you have to do errands do them EARLY in the morning. If you decide to leave the car there are at least five other additional ways to get to the island. I prefer the Falmouth ferry especially if my travel plans can avoid Cape traffic (thickest on Friday and Sunday Evenings). The “Pied Piper” offers valet parking. On arrival they come in at the Edgartown Town Dock. From there the Captain Morse House is only two blocks away and an easy walk. We have a garden cart to carry luggage in the tool shed or a cab is easy to get . When you are ready to leave the Ferry takes you back to Falmouth and your car is ready and waiting for you. This is by far the most relaxing and fun way to go. If you want to cut out the trip to Falmouth, especially if you are coming from Connecticut or New York then consider either the NE Fast Ferry from New Bedford or the Vineyard Fast Ferry from Quonset Point in Rhode Island. The disadvantage is the parking is a bit harder (drop off bags first) and you are let off in either Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven rather than in Edgartown. The ride from Quonset can be rough so mind the weather. New service since 2009 is the NE Fast Ferry service from New Jersey and New York. This is the ultimate way to travel to the island especially if you live in the city. Reservations are highly recommended. For folks who want to travel by Air there are several that service the island. The price is reasonable and will allow connections from other parts of the country. Again once on island you will really not miss a car. OUTSIDE AMENITIES Waterview, Waterfront. It runs frequently to all of the towns, airport and ferries. Martha's Vineyard airport is four miles away. Uber has also recently launched on the Island. Travel Times: Driving from the house I use the following times as a rule of thumb (we also know some shortcuts that can help you to avoid the Vineyard "rush minute.": Morning Glory Farm/Bike Trail/VTA Stop: 3 minutes/under 10 min walk Downtown Edgartown: 7 minutes South Beach: 10 minutes State Beach: 10 minutes "Jaws" Bridge: 12 minutes Edgartown Triangle/Stop &Shop (Art Project): 6 minutes Oak Bluffs/Circuit Ave: 15 minutes Airport: 10 minutes Vineyard Haven Steamship: 20 minutes Gay Head Lighthouse: 30 minutes Menemsha/Squid Row: 30 minutes Other Things to NoteWe are avid bike riders and can provide a plethora of information on the Island's miles of bike paths and trails. The beaches in Edgartown and Oak Bluffs do not require beach passes or parking permits. This includes South Beach, Fuller Street Beach, State Beach, and the "famous" Ink Well. Martha's Vineyard is one of the world's best fishing locations. Fish from the surf, charter boat, or walk along some of our fresh and saltwater ponds. The annual month-long Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby in the early fall is renowned as one of the ultimate tests of fishing prowess.

I strive to give guests as much privacy as possible when they are in the Cottage. Getting AroundThe Line #1 runs right from the end of my street (a 5 minute walk to the stop!) connecting you directly to the towns of Edgartown, Vineyard Haven (and the Steamship Authority in Vineyard Haven). From both stops, you can connect to buses all of the island. Bike shops are numerous if you prefer to rent by the day or longer. Of course, if you prefer and make your ferry reservation in time, you can travel around by car. You can taxi from the airport, rent a car or take public transportation (transfer to Line #1 required). I'm about 10 minutes from the airport. Other Things to NoteAs the Vineyard has suffered the stresses and strains of a busy tourist island, we do strive to be ecologically minded. Septic systems have caused significant lagoon pollution and so we do shower outdoors as noted. But! if my home suits your needs, you are surrounded by Land Bank and Sheriff's Meadows Trustees walks, a place to launch your kayak onto Sengekontacket Pond (5 minutes down the road by car) and a tranquil, private spot to relax! I do ask guests to be respectful of furnishings. Having hosted so many people, I want to make sure that everything is in beautiful order as well for you!
