The SpaceNestled in the trees overlooking our 4.5 acre swimming pond, our newly-expanded Pool Cabana is surrounded by shade trees, perennial flower beds, and abundant wildlife.
The spacious interior features local white pine woodwork and barrel vault ceiling, queen bed, comfortable sitting and dining areas (indoors and out), and a hideaway kitchenette with full-sized refrigerator and freezer.
Also included in the Cabana area is a stand-alone bathroom with a shower and handicapped accessible facilities, a tiki bar, full-sized swimming pool and lounge chairs. Guest AccessWe have over a half mile of trails through the woods available to our guests, a gazebo with fishing dock, a boathouse with 2 canoes and viewing porch, an 18-hole disc golf course, and many places to simply enjoy quiet contemplation.
In addition, there are outdoor areas for playing lawn games such as croquet, Kubb, and petanque (bocci). Right outside your door, there is even a golf tee for hitting floating golf balls over the pond! In warm weather, be sure to bring a swim suit and either relax poolside or tour the pond on an air mattress or our Huck Finn raft. Interaction with GuestsOur home is located about 150' from the Cabana. We are always happy to meet new guests, provide tours of the property, and offer recommendations for all kinds of local dining and events. If you prefer to enjoy the solitude, we will do our best to accommodate that as well. (But you may get an occasional visit by our friendly, scruffy dog, Biscuit!) The NeighborhoodWe are located in an area of rolling horse country that is also dotted with small organic farms. Our neighborhood is also noted as being part of one of the top 10 bicycle routes in North Carolina, so feel free to bring along your bikes! Take the 3-mile ride over to Mapleview Dairy to rest a spell in their front-porch rocking chairs while you admire the sunsets and enjoy locally famous ice cream. You can also ride 8 miles into Hillsborough for coffee or 10 miles to Carrboro for the amazing Farmer's Market (open Wednesdays and Saturdays).
This area of the Triangle is well known for its incredible places to eat, drink, enjoy music of all types, and shop. Festivals are a regular thing here, too! In April, Durham is home to the world-class Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. Let us know what you're interested in and we'll provide plenty of recommendations. Getting AroundWe are a short 8-minute drive to either I-40 or I-85, providing direct access into Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Elon, and Greensboro. Other Things to NoteSplit Rock is our home, lovingly created in a place of breathtaking beauty. We ask that you treat our home and property as you would your own.
We hope you enjoy the rustic nature of our surroundings while you are here. That said, this is country living, which means that you can expect some uneven footing, dark night skies, and occasional nocturnal visits from the local wildlife. We have done our best to accommodate our guests with compressed mulch walkways, exterior night lighting (including motion sensor lights), and parking right next to the building.
