The SpaceWe call it the Blue Room. Throughout the year we have volunteers and interns staying with us that share the house as well. The Blue Room is reserved for Farm Stay guests. Everyone shares the three bathrooms available but the one upstairs is right next to your room. In the bedroom there is a queen bed, a twin bed, a couch, two dressers, and a desk. The rest of the house is available for use including the kitchen, dining room, living room, sewing room, office, laundry room, and of course the barn. You can help yourself to breakfast food and if your interested in eating dinner with the family, please let us know so we can make plans. Dinner is an extra $8/person. You can also go explore the many wonderful restaurants nearby in Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Hillsborough, and Durham. We hope you'll understand that this is a living, working farm and we are usually quite busy. We love people and enjoy sharing this land with visitors and getting to know you. We hope you feel comfortable and welcome without the fancy amenities that other lodging might provide. Let us know if you have any questions! Guest AccessPlease feel free to use any part of the house as long as you are respectful of our things. We are very accustomed to having people in our space! Interaction with GuestsWe are usually running around with farm chores but we will probably be available to show you around the farm and answer any questions you have. We may not be able to cook your breakfast but you are always welcome to go collect some fresh eggs for yourself! The NeighborhoodEnjoy the Cane Creek Reservoir nearby, open on the weekends. Walk along Dairyland Road to see various other farms or drive 3 miles to get some fresh ice cream at Maple View Dairy. Head to Saxapahaw just down the road for some good music at the Haw River Ballroom. Hike on Occoneechee Mountain in Hillsborough or swim at the quarry at the Eno River State Park. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation to the farm. Other Things to NoteThis farm is very active. There are customers coming to pick up their produce and milk, interns feeding animals and feeding themselves, many animals roaming about, chores that need to be done, things that need to be fixed, and lots of dirt. If this sounds fun to you than please come join us!

The SpaceNestled in the trees overlooking our 4.5 acre swimming pond, our newly-expanded Pool Cabana is surrounded by shade trees, perennial flower beds, and abundant wildlife. The spacious interior features local white pine woodwork and barrel vault ceiling, queen bed, comfortable sitting and dining areas (indoors and out), and a hideaway kitchenette with full-sized refrigerator and freezer. The Cabana has a stand-alone bathroom - located about 10 steps away - with a shower and handicapped accessible facilities. It is heated by two large overhead space heaters and has soft comfortable mats on the stone floor. This is a comfortable, yet somewhat rustic arrangement. Comfortable lounge chairs sit above the pond for use on nice days. In warm weather, the space also includes a tiki bar and full-sized swimming pool. Guest AccessWe have over a half mile of trails through the woods available to our guests, a gazebo with fishing dock, a boathouse with 2 canoes and viewing porch, an 18-hole disc golf course, and many places to simply enjoy quiet contemplation. In addition, there are outdoor areas for playing lawn games such as croquet, Kubb, and petanque (like bocci). Right outside your door, there is even a golf tee for hitting floating golf balls over the pond! In warm weather, be sure to bring a swim suit and either relax poolside or tour the pond on an air mattress or our Huck Finn raft. Interaction with GuestsOur home is located about 150' from the Cabana. We are always happy to meet new guests, provide tours of the property, and offer recommendations for all kinds of local dining and events. If you prefer to enjoy the solitude, we will do our best to accommodate that as well. (But you may get an occasional visit by our friendly, scruffy dog, Biscuit!) The NeighborhoodWe are located in an area of rolling horse country that is also dotted with small organic farms. Our neighborhood is also noted as being part of one of the top 10 bicycle routes in North Carolina, so feel free to bring along your bikes! Take the 3-mile ride over to Mapleview Dairy to rest a spell in their front-porch rocking chairs while you admire the sunsets and enjoy locally famous ice cream. You can also ride 8 miles into Hillsborough for coffee or 10 miles to Carrboro for the amazing Farmer's Market (open Wednesdays and Saturdays). This area of the Triangle is well known for its incredible places to eat, drink, enjoy music of all types, and shop. Festivals are a regular thing here, too! In April, Durham is home to the world-class Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. Let us know what you're interested in and we'll provide plenty of recommendations. Getting AroundWe are a short 8-minute drive to either I-40 or I-85, providing direct access into Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Elon, and Greensboro. Other Things to NoteSplit Rock is our home, lovingly created in a place of breathtaking beauty. We ask that you treat our home and property as you would your own. We hope you enjoy the rustic nature of our surroundings while you are here. That said, this is country living, which means that you can expect some uneven footing, dark night skies, and occasional nocturnal visits from the local wildlife. We have done our best to accommodate our guests with compressed mulch walkways, exterior night lighting (including motion sensor lights), and parking right next to the building.
