The SpaceEnjoy your own private beach with no other houses in sight. Open meadows, trees, river and stream -- this secluded yet accessible cabin has it all. Warm and welcoming three bedroom, 2 full baths, sleeping porch, open kitchen with modern appliances, gas grill, outdoor fire-pit, and fine furnishings throughout. Listen to the sound of the babbling brook within 50 feet of the house, or explore the 27 acres of private beach access to the Shavers fork river. The house is engulfed in a narrow band of trees and surrounded by meadows and glades for walks (bring long pants and socks to see it all). It is also situated just 1/4 mile upstream from the one-million acre Monongahela National Forest. The house features natural wood-plank paneling and a well-appointed kitchen, wireless internet, 2 televisions with satellite TV, a Blu-Ray DVD player, and a stereo/home theater system. The kitchen is open to the dining area, perfect for social cooking. This cozy ground-level home sleeps 8 in beds, plus the living room and sun porch (the latter in warm months only). There is a MBR w/ Queen; BR #2 w/ Queen, BR #3 w/ 2 sets of Twin bunks, Living room w/ Queen pull-out sofa, and Sun Porch w/ queen futon (unheated -- no personal heaters allowed) For fall or early spring visits the house features electric heat and a wood-stove (a moderate amount of firewood is provided). Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers, or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. Our other listing has a larger land buffer between the house and the moving water . Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests. Cleaning fee covers laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, bathroom/kitchen sanitizing, and garbage removal. Guests are expected to otherwise leave the house in the condition they found it. We want to ensure that this property is the right fit for you! We also have tried to stock the house so that you would not want for much upon your arrival. If you are looking for a remote mountain getaway and are willing to roll with what comes from a country vacation, you will be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spot! Because the house is surrounded by forests, the creek, and the river, there is plenty of nature to enjoy but also to endure. Mice will occasionally come inside, and although we set hidden traps to keep them from settling in, there is a possibility that you will see them during your stay depending on whether they've found a food source recently (it could be from a prior guest -- not your own doing.) We do, however, check to make sure that the kitchen implements are sanitary at the beginning of your stay. The bug situation is that we are at a high enough elevation to not have a mosquito problem, but there will be gnats in the field, and moths at night wanting to get into the house. There will also be plenty of dead bugs that wedge themselves between the screens and the windows, and cobwebs sprouting up here and there. If these aspects of nature are acceptable to you, then you will find a beautiful place of nature in which to relax and enjoy your vacation! This is a NON-SMOKING rental with steep penalties for violations Damage deposit is $250 and is fully refundable within two weeks if rental agreement terms are met. Minimum stays apply during holidays and summer. Guest AccessPrivate 6 person hot tub (fee for use is included in cleaning fee -- if you don't wish to use it, request a $53 adjustment). In winter months, be prepared for snowy and/or icy road conditions by driving a 4WD or suitable vehicle. Having chains for your car in the trunk is another good option. It's advisable whenever driving in wintry conditions in the mountains of WV as the roads are often hazardous. At times the snow can be deep and it takes 24-48 hours before it is plowed, therefore you should be prepared to be flexible about travel. The cabin is remote, so even in clear weather its narrow mountain gravel road can be concerning to those not experienced. Depending on whether the road crew has done repairs recently there may be potholes. In most cases you can drive around them, but there may be a few on the way that you’ll just need to slowly drive through. There are also no guardrails on the road, but it has several turnouts to allow cars to pass. The gravel is not suitable for street motorcycles. Please be aware of the close proximity of the stream to decide if the risk is too great for your toddlers or other children who might leave the house unsupervised. The river is about a 5 minute walk across the property from the house. There is no vehicular traffic allowed off the driveway. Pet friendly -- dogs only please, and no more than two dogs per reservation unless owner exception is offered. Owners provide a starter quantity of paper products, bathroom soap, and laundry/dish detergent. Personal toiletries are to be provided by Guests. We want to ensure that this property is the right fit for you! This is our vacation home that we are sharing – we are not a resort with a maintenance, concierge, and cleaning staff – and our prices reflect that limitation. That said we have put together as many resources as possible to help you plan your trip and enjoy your stay as if it were your own vacation home. Note that a check for $250 must be mailed to be held as a damage deposit.

Ours is a modern, open family home on a quiet street convenient to downtown and D&E College. Elkins is the perfect jumping off place for visiting the area. The guest area is located on the second floor and includes one room with a double bed, a second room with two twin beds, a guest bathroom and loft area for lounging/working. The loft area has seating for five, a desk, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker and electric kettle. This space is ideal for a family or group of four traveling together. Guest AccessThe guest area includes one room with a double bed, a second room with two twin beds, a guest bathroom and loft area for lounging/working. The loft area has seating for five, a desk, microwave, refrigerator, coffeemaker and electric kettle. This space is ideal for a family or group of four traveling together. The tree filled yard and spacious deck are also available for guest use. Interaction with GuestsWe love to meet new people! We would enjoy getting to know you, but also realize some guests may be seeking a quieter, more solitary experience. We have hosted everyone from single travelers just passing through to families with children exploring the area. Every hosting experience is unique and special. The NeighborhoodWe are truly a well kept secret. People from our own town often say, "I had no idea this was back here," when they visit. Our house is just three blocks off of a main street, but located on a quiet, dead end street. Getting AroundGuests can bike or walk to downtown and D&E College. However, guests will find a car is the most useful means of transportation as Elkins lacks much public transport. Other Things to NoteWe are both teachers and love to travel. Some of our most wonderful experiences have been in homestays around the world. We're excited to play host to other like minded travelers. Lisa also spends her weekends working in the Randolph County CVB Welcome Center, so she can give you plenty of tourist tips.
