The SpaceThis house was built in 1900. My mother's best friend was the first occupant of this house with his family and then my mother purchased it from him years later so it's stayed in the family! The house is an updated bungalow. I started to remodel it about 4 years ago - refinished the hardwood floors, gutted the kitchen and put in a custom kitchen complete with cabinets made by Amish carpenters in Lancaster, marble countertops and a Brazilian soap stone sink crafted in Doylestown. The house has brand new central air and a gas fireplace. It is on a very quiet street so you will sleep very well. I suggest having a drink or coffee on the front porch to relax after you get here. The front porch has a table and seats six. The dining room seats six people as well. The antiques and art in the house are things I have collected over the years or inherited from my mother. I spend a lot of time in the city now, but I come out here for a quiet getaway and I call this my "country" house. You might see done chipmunks, squirrels, bunnies, birds, deer, a fox or two and a raccoon. Enjoy! Guest AccessArrive by train: Elkins Park Train Station or Jenkintown Train Station and then take an uber to the bungalow. Interaction with GuestsYes, texting me is best. The NeighborhoodElkins Park is a diverse community north of Philadelphia. It is rich in history but what makes Elkins Park unique are the people and the community's commitment to make it a happy place to raise a family while keeping in mind the environment. I suggest seeing a movie at the Hiway Theater in nearby Jenkintown. The Keswick Theater in nearby Glenside has wonderful comedic shows and musical artists so see if there is a show while you're here. The Blue Comet is one of my favorite places in the neighborhood for good food - on Sundays they have Rock-a-Billy music. If you need food, a local co-op is just a mile away and a Whole Foods and Trader Joes is a couple miles away. Getting AroundThere is parking at my house. Guests MUST park in the driveway . To get to the city, take Broad Street all the way into the city - on the way, you will see neighborhoods in transition and Temple University. Or, to get to the city, take Broad Street to Route 1, to 76 east. On good days, it only takes about 25 minutes to get to the city. Uber is available here so I suggest using that. The Elkins Park and Jenkintown stations are both close by and both will take you into the city. Other Things to NoteFall is the best time to be here although the winter is very pretty when it is snowing.

The SpaceOur home is 105 years old and sits on an incredibly quiet street with migrating songbirds in the spring and fall. We have a dreamy front porch that you will love, a comfortable living room to watch TV in or read, and a beautiful dining room to enjoy a nice meal. Our kitchen is straight out of Grandma's house circa 1940, and is equipped with every known pot, pan and appliance (a former chef and former pastry chef live here). We travel a lot also and are sticklers about quality bedding and pillows. Your bedroom has a queen bed that gets rave reviews, a cozy down comforter (or two!), 4 pillows of various firmness (and more to choose from), 100% cotton and/or flannel bedding. You have your own bathroom, with everything you need- just show up with your clothes! -we can accommodate two couples- we have a second guest room option in case you are traveling with friends Guest AccessYou will love our front porch and back yard, and enjoy our old fashioned kitchen that will make you think you are at Grandma's house (eventually we will remodel it, but for now, we just love the old country feel it has). You have full use of the house for whatever your needs are. Interaction with GuestsWhatever you need- we are easy and happy to help. -Happy to drive/pick-up from the train station as well, when we are home. The NeighborhoodWe visited Philly 2 years ago before moving here to explore where we wanted to move to, and were overwhelmed with the various neighborhood options, none of which had any easy parking, and it would have been nice to have had this option to stay in at that time! Elkins Park is just over the city line, and worlds away from the row house congestion and clutter of Philadelphia, where tree lined streets abound with gorgeous old homes. Five minute walk away is one of three co-op markets (in all of Philly!) for healthy natural foods. It is next to the Elkins Park train station, along with a few great local BYOB bistros (one in particular the we love is Park Plates!). Within a 10 min drive is Whole Foods along with at least 5 other grocery and liquor stores, Target, etc. Getting AroundIf you are driving to Philadelphia and need to be in center city, you will find a peaceful place to rest your head, park your car, and a beautiful walk under ten minutes to either of two train stations, and a quick 20-25 min train ride to Jefferson, Suburban or 30th St. stations, for easy access to any needs in downtown Philly. If you want to drive, that is no problem either- depending on traffic it is 25-40 min- and you will not be searching for parking when you return back home! Other Things to NoteWe can accommodate two couples at one time as we have a second guest room in case you are traveling with friends. Breakfast items like yogurt, cereal and coffee tea are always available. Also, we have a lovely cat who is easy and gets along fine with dogs and loves people. Our home has hardwood floors throughout and you will find no cat hair anywhere. The cat does not go into the guest rooms. In other words, I do not think anyone with cat allergies would actually have to worry about being here. I am a doctor and deal with allergies, and in the 7 yrs we have had him, honestly, no one has ever been allergic to him- despite some of our friends having allergies.

Our friendly pomeranian mix, Sherlock, will bark a welcome - in AND when you leave:) The NeighborhoodWe are literally two blocks away from the city limit of Philadelphia, so have easy access to the city. We are near a great intersection of Korean groceries and restaurants, coffee shops that are fun to explore. H-Mart, a Korean grocery store is a world unto its own, like going to Korea with no airfare:). Creekside Coop is also nearby in the heart of Elkins Park with organic food. There are many restaurants, such as Park Plates nearby. Jenkintown is a ten minute ride with everything from Cosi to La Pergola (Mediterranean), Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Panera, etc. Curtis Arboretum and High school Park are also a great parks to walk around. The SpaceWelcome to Sylvan Edge! Designed as Philadelphia real-estate magnate Joseph J. Greenberg's private residence, "Sylvan Edge" is the definition of old world elegance and charm. This extremely rare and stately 8,000 square foot 28 room Georgian Revival mansion is filled with ornate detailing and craftsmanship unavailable in today's modern estate homes. Having been recognized by Architectural Digest and the University of Pennsylvania for its superior design and craftsmanship, this is the place you only read about and see in historical publications. However now, it is being offered to you as your own private luxury estate. As you ascend through the wrought iron gates, up the Belgian block driveway, the formal entrance whisks you off to another time, fashioned with the best materials and resources that money could buy. True craftsmen have their trades on display at every turn. The formal entry way has marble floors and entices all to stop in their tracks and just take in the splendor of this spectacular estate. To the right, there is a large, formal living room that boasts a custom marble fireplace surround, high ceilings, a French neo-classical interior and a grand French empire chandelier. The formal living room opens up to a spacious sun-room, marked by travertine flooring, plenty of sun-light through the French doors, marble Lunette fountain and a fun, entertaining deck area with views of the grounds. As you retreat to the South Wing, the master retreat encapsulates 6 rooms with separate his and her dressing rooms and a spacious Master bedroom with original fresco's and fireplace. There is also a second floor veranda off the master suite to enjoy the serene views overlooking the in-ground pool and reflecting pond. The perfect place to relax and enjoy your morning coffee. - Prepare a wonderful meal in the brilliantly appointed Professional Chef's Gourmet Kitchen with its spanning counter space, high-end Viking appliances, and large statuary quartz kitchen island. - Stretch out and relax in the tufted leather club chairs and deep seated sofas in the wood paneled Library, and watch a film on the large flat-screen television. - Explore the sights and sounds of historic Philadelphia, take a stroll in the picturesque Elkins Park, or have a leisurely lunch in your secluded walled garden, after taking a dip in your private Pool. These features, plus many more, make this meticulously renovated and impeccably kept luxury estate home an ideal location for friends and family alike to create the memories that will last a lifetime. We are a family of 4 and our son has moved out so we have his room to rent. We have lived in this house since 2001, and it's a little big for us now so we want to share it. We like this neighborhood because it's close to the city but feels like the suburbs. We have a cute Pomeranian rescue dog named Sherlock, who barks excitedly when you come in and doesn't bark untill you leave (unless you are vacuuming). We are 2 blocks away from great sushi , grocery stores, coffee shops, and on a major bus line. It's a seven minute walk to the train station and a 20 minute train ride to get downtown. We are great location for variety of schools and universities. We welcome students and those on internships/residency rotation. We can leave you alone or invite you to a meal, its your choice. We like entertaining and meeting new people and offer a nurturing environment. Drop in for one night or stay awhile, we are just trying to help make the world a better place.
