The SpaceThis gorgeous open plan, sun drenched cosy 1940's apartment is located in the trendiest streets in Elwood...And even better its only moments away from the beach, two parks and cross the road from "Elwood Food and Wine Bar"! (they have live music on Sundays!) Ormond road has everything you need. Organic restaurants, coffee shops, boutique clothing and much much more including a gorgeous local deli which stocks local and international gourmet products! The beauty of Elwood is the vibe. You will find friendly locals who love it here and appreciate the community feel. Even in Summer this place doesn't get too packed and its only a short walk to vibrancy of St Kilda! The apartment: It's a two-bedroom top floor apartment built in the early 1940s, in the leafy Melbourne bayside suburb of Elwood. It has ornate high ceilings, large windows, natural wooden floorboards, fully equipped kitchen and balcony. The lounge and bedrooms have plenty of light whatever the season. The main bedroom has ample storage space. This apartment would suit easy-going, highly trustworthy, communicative, respectful and clean guests who likes an abode that is comfortable warm without being five-star and modern. I'm into art, yoga, travelling open to people of all cultures, sexualities, ages and so on! The apartment has two levels of stairs to enter so unfortunately it's not wheelchair accessible but would be fairly accessible for people with other access issues as it's all on one floor and door frames are wide. Public Transport: lose to public transport (bus stop in front of the house, tram stop just a 5 min walk away and less than 10 minutes to the train station). Cafes, pubs and shops just around the corner. Walk to the beach or wander through beautiful Elsternwick Park just around the corner. The SpaceThe apartment has 2 bedrooms (one for the hosts and one for the guests) located on the first floor (no lift) in a block of 6 renovated Art Deco apartments. It has high ceilings, polished floor boards, a fully equipped modern kitchen with gas cooking, clean and modern bathroom, and shared back yard. The room offered to guests is light filled, has a very comfortable queen sized bed and built in robe. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole apartment (bathroom, kitchen, terrace, living room). There is free "on street" parking available, and a push bike if you wish to see Melbourne on 2 wheels. Interaction with GuestsRachel and I are very happy to interact with guests as much as they like, but ask guest to also recognize that the apartment is our home, and we do enjoy a little time to ourselves. We're around in the evenings and am happy to assist guests with any questions that they have. The NeighborhoodElwood is a beautiful leafy suburb located on the bay. The demographic is mainly professional people with a mix of apartments and houses. Elwood village (1 mins walk) has everything you can ask for with great restaurants, cafes, supermarket, gourmet deli's, bars, newsagent, bakery etc. St Kilda is located close by and is a huge tourist destination offering beaches, markets, amusement park, many restaurants, cafes, retail shopping etc Getting AroundThe bus is located near the front door. The Tram or train is only a short walk (12 mins) away and will take you into the city in 20 mins. Melbourne has many cycle paths, and a bike is available for use (free of charge).

The NeighborhoodThe beach side apartment located 5 minutes from St Kilda and 8 kilometres from the centre of Melbourne. A number of local shopping strips can be found in Elwood consisting of speciality shops, retailers and eateries which blend in with the surrounding apartment buildings and homes. Along sections of the grand tree-lined boulevard of Brighton Road, which becomes St Kilda Road and the Nepean Highway, are more retail and service outlets as well as a couple of large historic hotels. Elwood's beaches are lined with a continuous series of parks and separate paved walking and bicycle tracks. The wide expanse of sand and the calm waters, patrolled by the Elwood Life Saving Club, are ideal for safe and sheltered swimming. Fronting the beach are a couple of kiosks, boating clubs and a restaurant. Getting AroundAccess to public transport is readily and easily accessible, parking included. There is a bus at the end of the street that takes you to St Kilda (5-8mins), there is also a tram and train (5 mins away). Public transport too the city (30-40mins), driving 20mins and everything you need is only a couple of minutes walk away. Depending on where you want to go there are three options for public transport: 1. Tram No 67 (Melbourne University - Carnegie) stops at Glenhuntly rd, 5 minute walk 2. Train Sandringham (Flinders Street CBD - Sandringham) stops at stops at Elsternwick station 8 minute walk 3. Bus No 630 (Elwood - Monash University via Gardenvale) stops at the end of the street, less than a minutes walk There are also a couple of bikes depending on availability and you are more than welcome to take them for a spin. LOCALITY Elwood, with a population of 13,785, is an inner city Melbourne suburb 8 km south of the Melbourne CDB. Elwood borders St Kilda on the North and Brighton on the Sought. Elwood is considered by many to be Melbourne’s most picturesque suburb. Elwood Beach is a popular bayside beach destination during summer where the beaches are used recreationally for windsurfing, cycling, touch football, cricket and walking. Elwood was originally swampland, however, installation of the Elwood Canal turned it into a habitable area. Prior to colonisation, Aboriginal Australians cooked shellfish and signalled other clans from Point Ormond in Elwood. . Originally a working middle class suburb in the early part of the 20th century, Elwood has overseen waves of gentrification and is now one of Melbourne's most sought after bayside addresses. In the late 1970s, like nearby St Kilda, Elwood was known for its nightlife and developed a reputation as a cabaret area. Many of these venues operated out of some of the suburb's quirkier old buildings. As the scene saw a demise in the early 1980s, many including Maison de Luxe and Moulin Rouge (which operated out of the 1880s mansion "Pladda" built for Captain A. Currie) were subsequently demolished. As late as 1989 locals could be seen riding surfboards and canoes in Elwood streets when the canal burst its banks yet again. Despite its history of adversity, a modern suburb now thrives by the bay in one of Melbourne’s most prized locations. Café life in the Elwood village seems a long way from the flood, fire and fever of earlier days. There are parks nearby and the scenic canal that attracts birds and walkers leads you to the beach. The flat is large and open with lots of natural light and big windows. The lounge room has a desk ideal for professionals and those needing to work. The WiFi is ADSL 2 with 400 Gb of download, digital TV and DVD player. The kitchen is open with a bench top for eating and preparing along with 2 fridges and full utensils and appliances etc. Help yourself to plenty of herbs spices and condiments in the cupboards. Washing machine, iron, ironing board and all detergents and washing powders provided. No dryer but outer clothes line and indoor clothes rack. There's a laundromat 500 metre's from house. If you have a baby there is a high chair and a folding playpen. Its on the first floor of a quiet set of flats with no noisy neighbours and no 'other' apartments overlooking the main rooms. It has a balcony overlooking the street and a carport for your car if you need. If you need another person I have a futon you can use You will have exclusive use of the flat and if you need anything I am living just 2 minutes away. These can be provided to you for $10.00 each I provide Breakfast when you arrive for the first few days so you have something to start your day. Trams and trains into the city are 15mins walk. The tram takes about 30 mins, trains 10mins. Plenty of unrestricted street-parking out front of my building.
