The SpaceNo separate cleaning fee or additional charges. Accommodation is on the one level. We completed a new fitout of the house in March 2013 - new floorboards have been put down in the living, dining and kitchen areas and every room has been stylishly refreshed (new furniture, paint, wall hangings etc). The bedrooms are carpeted. There are generous living and dining areas, 2 bedrooms and a large balcony, complete with BBQ, where you can relax watching the changing light over ocean, beach and sky. The second bedroom (with twin beds) also has a fold-out bed and is large enough to sleep 3 people. The house has two toilets and one bathroom. At the rear of the house is a tiled laundry area which leads out with level access to the fully fenced rear garden. There is also an outside shower for washing off sand and saltwater. Guest AccessGuests have access to the house, deck and backyard. Although there is a garage it is not available for guests - sorry! Please be aware that the property is on the high side of the road. This gives it wonderful views from the balcony (and a level rear garden) but means that there are two sets of stairs (with handrails) to access the house from the street. It is the equivalent of walking up two storeys to arrive at the front door from the street. If you are less mobile, please bear this in mind when considering whether or not to our property will be ideal for you. I am happy to provide additional information to you (and the view from the balcony is spectacular - inside the property is all on one level). Interaction with GuestsWayne, our part-time manager uses the small completely separate flat on the lower level and may be there during your stay. He will assist you upon your arrival, and can give you any advice you would like about the local area or answer any questions you may have. The NeighborhoodEmerald Beach is a fabulous north coast surf beach. The small village has two great restaurants, a pizzeria (great for the kids), general store, hairdresser, video store and bottle shop. Supermarkets and larger shops are close by at Woolgoolga and Moonee, while Coffs Harbour is about 20km south. Award-winning Surf St Cafe (formerly Saltwater Cafe and Restaurant) is a moment away, and has been recommended by the Good Food Guide for several years ("...a relaxed and stylish vibe..."). They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (great for coffee) and it is being run by the original owners again. Open Wed - Sun. Highly regarded "La Hacienda 101" has authentic mexican food, there is a great general store (with a good selection of DVDs and takeaway food), Pizza & Pasta restaurant and a bottle shop. There is also a fabulous hole in the wall cafe (Wired for Coffee) open early 7 days - excellent coffee and well sourced cafe treats and produce (located on the main street between Hacienda 101 and the Pizza & Pasta restaurant). As well as the main surfing beach, there's a leash-free area of the beach for dogs so you can book a holiday for the whole family! Getting AroundEmerald Beach is about 25 minutes from Coffs Harbour airport. There are buses that run up to Woolgoolga and into Coffs Harbour, but we would recommend you have your own car if possible.

The SpaceLusa Cottage faces north and east, capturing all-day sun, but it is well shaded by long deep verandas. The cottage is bright and airy with three separate indoor living spaces and four separate deck spaces to relax and take in the seaside. The cottage has two bathrooms and two formal bedrooms, both with double beds. A third downstairs bunk room, which faces the ocean, has two single beds - and room for one or two more camp beds (BYO) if needed. It has its own entrance and bathroom. There is also a single daybed in the upstairs living room that can be screened off for extra sleeping. Guest AccessThe verandas catch the ocean breezes and a grassy path invites you down to the nearby shore. Plunge into the surf, strike out along the beach, or explore the rocky ledges and pools. From atop the heath-covered headland you can best see the nearby islands, and the jagged coastline that vanishes far off to the north and south. At the right time in summer whales and dolphins play about the headland waters. Or, you might come across a lone fisherman, wallabies, seabirds, and high above, the resident sea eagles. Orange billed oyster The catchers pluck about the shores. Bird life is abundant. Interaction with GuestsGuests are left to their own devices, but there is someone nearby to offer advice or assistance if needed. Queries will be answered by phone, or text. The NeighborhoodSandy Beach comes alive in summer, but not in a raucous way. The beaches are populated, but never ever packed, as there is so much space. There are many areas to explore on foot or bicycle. Lusa is adjacent the 60 km Solitary Islands Coastwalk, which threads past the nearby headland, vast rocky shelves and a small island (Flat Rock) that can be explored at low tide. Getting AroundA pair of sandals is about all you really need, to get to the local shop and the local beaches. A few minutes drive north takes you to Woolgoolga ('Woopi') with its variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, boutiques and regular beachside markets. For the more energetic Woopi can be reached on foot, or by bike. Emerald Beach, a few minutes drive south, also has a range of restaurants and cafes. It can also be easily reached by foot, along the beachfront. Getting to Coffs Harbour takes about 20 minutes by car and there is also a regular bus service. Other Things to NoteThe house is well equipped for family beach holidays, with a BBQ and outdoor settings, folding chairs, board games and TV/DVD player. In order to keep prices down we ask guests to bring their own linen and towels, though blankets are provided. However, linen can be provided for a small extra fee if required. A small pantry provides some non-perishables (cooking oil, tea bags, herbs and spices, etc.) The local (coffee/burger/grocery) shop is only a short walk and a big supermarket is a few minutes by car. Also, most people will bring their own fishing, snorkeling or surf riding gear, but there is a small practice surfboard and a small body board, suitable for children and young teens.

Located in the small award-winning North Sapphire Beach estate on the Solitary Coast of northern NSW just 10 kilometres north of the town of Coffs Harbour, this award-winning home started its life as a display property, and is now available for vacation rentals. Doing the most to take full advantage of its location alongside a pristine beach where the Coral and the Tasman Seas meet at 30 degrees South Latitude, the design emphasises comfort and functionality in the climate rated by the CSIRO as the most liveable in Australia. Beautiful finishes, extensive use of Australian hardwoods, a flowing, open plan layout, lowE glazing and waveform slump glass, combined with sustainable construction techniques and materials, and the latest hydronic solar heating technology, all accent the character and comfort of this home on the east coast of Australia at 30 degrees south latitude. Use of renewable energy design principles maximise the effects and use of natural light, rainwater, active and passive solar heating, and natural sea breeze cooling all combine to make the house supremely comfortable all year round. Solar energy provides all domestic hot water, plus comfortable hydronic slab heating of the home in the cooler months of the year. This same central solar system also takes the chill off the water in the 12-meter lap pool. Within two weeks of its opening, "South Solitary" had won three first place building and design industry awards, and since then, has earned several others. There are no houses - just coastal forest and dunes - between the house and the beach. The path to the beach provides a pleasant 5-minute stroll along walkways that pass beside beautiful paperbark wetlands, leading you to a boardwalk that takes you to the beach across a vegetated coastal dune system. It's a busy day on this three kilometre golden sand beach if you can actually see more than a dozen people - generally, you'll be walking on your own. Looking out from the beach beyond the surf, the horizon is broken by the Solitary Islands, with dolphins, Ospreys and Sea Eagles patrolling the water just off the beach, and for several months of the year, migrating humpback whales passing close inshore. The home is fully furnished with top-of-the-range Poliform furniture, and can comfortably accommodate a single family of two adults and two children or up to six adults in its three bedrooms. There are no additional beds, cots, or convertible sofas. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and adjoins a large ensuite which includes a 2-person bath. The remaining two bedrooms both feature queen-sized beds and share a bathroom between. All bedrooms and bathrooms are hydronically heated during the cooler months by a solar powered in-slab floor heating system. The house has comfortable lounges, a family dining bar made from a solid slab of local hardwood, a covered patio outdoor dining and entertainment area, an office, flat screen televisions, a large gourmet kitchen with separate gas and electric induction cooktops, three ovens, an oversized ice-making refrigerator, dishwasher, and a walk-in pantry. There is a secure free wireless internet system, and a multi-room A-bus sound system that uses IPod or IPhone docks to play your own music. A 12-metre lap pool stretches the length of the front boundary for use on those occasions where a few laps seems like a better choice than a surf in the nearby ocean. The solar system takes the chill off the swimming pool water in cooler weather. Lying in bed at night, you can hear the surf beyond the trees and dunes, and in the morning, the birds begin their background chorus - the soulful butcher bird with his variety of calls and imitations of other birds, kookaburras laughing at the world, currawongs and magpies echoing through the wetland forest, and any number of large black cockatoos, honeyeaters, and small native finches all add to the unending soundtrack of the bushland and the white noise of the surf. The beach is at the edge of the unique Solitary Islands Marine Park, where the southernmost remnants of the prehistoric Barrier Reef can still be found, and where spectacular recreational scuba diving opportunities are available year round. So what do you want to do....? Just kick back and go nowhere further than the pool? Walk along the surf beach every morning and evening? Walk or drive through eucalypt and sub-tropical rainforests? Go scuba diving on local reefs in the Solitary Islands Marine Park, whale watch, game fish, golf or surf? Or does simply sitting at the edge of the dunes with a coffee and watching the humpback whales going past sound like the perfect way to enjoy this place? The house is on a quiet street set within 200 metres of a surf beach with only wetlands and sand dunes between the house and the surf. The beach faces the Solitary Islands, with Split Solitary Island a few hundred metres offshore, the larger South Solitary Island about 10 kilometres out to sea on the horizon, and Northwest Solitary Island along the coast to the north. The ocean vistas from the beach encompass the Solitary Islands Marine Park, where thousands of humpback whales migrate north and south along the coast during the spring and autumn months. This stretch of coastline is the only place on the east coast of Australia where the continental dividing range actually extends all the way to the beach. The ranges are covered by extensive native eucalyptus hardwood forests, and have many driving tracks and mountain villages to visit. The nearby town of Coffs Harbour has the only all weather harbour between Sydney and Brisbane, and is home to a small commercial fishing and prawn trawling fleet. The international marina has numerous yachts and recreational fishing boats, and the seas off Coffs harbour are famous for world class fishing and big game fishing, with this piece of coast having a reputation as one of the best kept big game fishing destinations in Australia. Whale watching, scuba diving, deep sea fishing, and big game marlin fishing charters leave daily from the harbour. World class surfing can be experienced on almost every beach and point break along this stretch of coastline. Coffs Harbour has numerous golf courses, all of which welcome visitors, and the best known of these is the Bonville International Golf Resort, which consistently wins awards as the best resort golf course in Australia. Bonville Golf also has the only dining room at an Australian golf resort to have been awarded a "hat".
