The SpaceOur 3 bedroom, one bathroom, home is located in an older safe neighborhood one block west of the 5 off Santa Fe Dr. Street Parking.
We keep the home neat and tidy and clean every week, but as full-time hosts, sometimes we have organizational projects or dinner parties or I'm paying bills at the kitchen table...normal stuff. So please remember it is a full time home and life goes on here:)
Your private room has a queen bed, linens, extra blankets in the dresser and a down comforter on the bed. There is a fan and a space heater in the room. Towels and a variety of toiletries are available for you in your room. Coffee and tea is is the kitchen (French press and a tea kettle). There is a closet rack, dresser, desk and chair. Please inquire about anything you may need and I may have it. Please don't use our toiletries or towels in the bathroom.
This is a tropical desert area so temperature does fluctuate unpredictably (hot/humid)(dry/cold) so we adapt with NO a/c or central heating. The living room does have a wall heater I turn-on in winter months. But when there's a heat wave it's a little rough on some to be in a warm humid room. The heat waves are typically near August/September. Never unbearable. Kind of nice. But we all complain during a heat wave (nice ocean water those days).
I love animals. Ours are all friendly and not aggressive. We have a senior mini apricot poodle (who's the best), an indoor/outdoor young girl kitty, a shy bunny living in the backyard and a parakeet in my private room. For those concerned about dog shedding...he doesn't shed or spend time in the guest room. And I swear the new cat doesn't (URL HIDDEN) freaky and I hope it lasts. She's not accustomed to going into the guest room unless someone wants her to. Guest AccessThis home features a shared bathroom with tub/shower; fully equipped kitchen, including a juicer and coffee press; seated dining area; living room with Netflix, Hulu and a DVD player; wireless internet, a large private gated front yard with gas BBQ and a fire pit. There is room for wet suits and surf boards outside. There is fridge space and a shelf for your food items (ask me). There is bottled water, coffee, and tea available for your use. There is sometimes breakfast food available too, if you ask I'll get it out. There is plenty of safe street parking. There are old surfboards if you dare. Plus a boogie board/beach umbrella/chair.
Sorry NO laundry, but a public laundry is on the corner. For long term guests I will launder your bedding/towels and I can take you to do your clothes weekly at a better spot I go to by car (it has good food/bar/internet). Makes laundry quick and fun. Interaction with GuestsWe are a friendly, flexible, open minded, social, yet a private household. We sometimes watch shows in the evening and go to bed around 11/12pm and get up between 7-8:30am (later rising on the weekends). I'd be happy to advise you on anything fun happening in the area or give you local tips on where to shop, eat, hike, etc. Open communication on your needs or your schedule is encouraged (because we share a restroom and kitchen). I'm available by text for all questions during your stay. I work from home 30% of the time in my backroom office or the living room if there's a nice breeze. I'm what you call a social introvert and my schedule is super random. Sean, my long term roommate (2.5 years), is pretty much the same, but he works 9am-6:30pm, m-f, not at home. The NeighborhoodEncinitas is a small beach community 25 miles north of San Diego. Our downtown has everything you need for a great vacation; including a large selection of beaches with great surf, yoga studios, markets, shops, restaurants, bars, an old movie theatre, a new library, and the Del Mar Racetrack. We are near the San Elijo Lagoon Reserve, Torrey Pines and Elfin Forrest Hiking trails, the San Diego Botanical Gardens, the Self Realization Center, and the Belly Up music venue. The natural beauty of our community, along with temperatures between 40 and 90 degrees year-round make Encinitas a spectacular destination.
Our home is located in an older residential area of town. Our corner shopping center features a pizza shop, donut shop, ice cream shop, 7-11, liquor store, salon, small home goods store, coffee kiosk, laundry mat and an excellent Mexican food restaurant/Mexican grocery market. Getting AroundIt is a nice walk and short drive to downtown Encinitas, including the coaster station that goes to downtown San Diego where you can visit the San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, see a Padres game, or visit Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo.
Taxi driver: Leon (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
(or I recommend Lyft or Uber apps for affordable car service) Other Things to NoteThere is NO driveway parking. Parking on the street is very safe and available. Do not park in driveway to unload. It's shared with the back house and they are very friendly but not very fond of finding random cars in their spots :) Best not to discuss your Airbnb stay with the neighbors. No conflict here yet, but I've heard stories of Airbnb neighbors being bothered by a rotation of strangers present. So to avoid their worry, best to keep it to a friendly hello.
We want you to feel comfortable and free to use the home. If you know you'll need the restroom/kitchen/tv at a specific time PLEASE let me know and I will accommodate you (specifically in the morning...Sean is 7:30-8am). If you want a movie night I'm happy to chill in my room or join you. Typically it's pretty casual and communication on these things is easy.
Feel free to message me a tentative schedule during your stay so that I know if you are home in the room resting or out and about. I would hate to disturb you with music or movies when you're sleeping or think I'm disturbing you when you're not even home :)
There are hooks behind the bedroom door to hang your damp towels. Please hang up the shower mat and shut the curtain daily (to avoid mold).
Feel free to message me with any questions you may have (anytime, even late).
