The SpaceBefore you consider booking, please read all information about House Rules and Amenities, as it will answer most of your basic questions and assist you in deciding if our home is a good match for your stay. Autumn has arrived in New England and the air is fragrant with acorns and woodsmoke. The nights have turned crispy which means perfect sleeping weather! Leaves are late to turn this year so peak foliage might be about two weeks late - a prolonged autumn season - everyone's favorite. We start log fires in October at sunset which after a long walk in the woods are a welcoming way to start an evening. The month of October is a special time with apple picking, pumpkin carving, hayrides and looking for the right costume - all culminating in non-stop Halloween celebrations in nearby Salem. Join us in complete privacy amid conservation land overlooking a lake. European charm in an English cottage-style home that has been featured in two design magazines. A blend of antique and contemporary furnishings offers a relaxed cozy atmosphere with views from every window to water, gardens or woods. If Calendar cites $135 for a specific date, that indicates the price PER bedroom. Either one bedroom or a two bedroom suite is available. If you are seeking lodging for more than two guests, please include that in your booking inquiry. Enjoy the best night's slumber in the peace and quiet here. Guest AccessGuests have access to the beautiful private grounds adjacent to conservation land, including the picnic table, fire pit and garden seating, wireless wi-fi and canoe landing. Hiking and cycling trails are right outside the door. Please note, we do not lend out bicycles, canoes or kayaks. Interaction with GuestsWe greet guests personally upon arrival and offer a cup of tea or beverage to discuss their travel plans and offer suggestions for sightseeing, hiking trails, dining and shopping. We respect guests' privacy, but are here to help as needed. The NeighborhoodWe love that this is a conservation area and that our neighbors respect the environment and unique character of the woods and adjacent trails and lakes. Before I arrived, a proposal to develop condos was before the Town and the neighbors banded and fought this for five years. Open areas around the water were declared conservation land. Such is the dedication of the residents to preserve this natural setting. No houses or other structures are visible from the windows or property - your eyes only rest on water, trees and rustic gardens. Getting AroundYes, train service to Boston, Newburyport, Gloucester, and Rockport is seven minutes away! Many guests park their cars at either Hamilton/Wenham or Manchester-by-the-Sea train stations and train to Boston to avoid parking and traffic. Uber is readily available here if you don't feel like driving. Other Things to NoteMany people have remarked the area seems like it is in the Maine woods instead of thirty minutes north of Boston. Guests who desire peace and solitude can walk, hike, and boat without leaving the woods. Those who want a mix can be at the shore in less than ten minutes, go sailing or whale watching and feast on local lobster and clams. Those seeking a day in the city can take a brief train ride to Boston, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine are an easy day trip for those curious to explore more of New England. There are truly many activities for every taste.

If not, arrangements can certainly be made. She is always there for you via e-mail, phone or text during your stay. You may see our cat, Cheese, walking around. He had a brother Mac but no longer. He is white with pink ears and so freindly. He is not allowed in the Barn but do not be surpised to see him on your deck looking for a cuddle. The NeighborhoodThe "The Barn" is only one block from Essex's main street, river access and across the street from the historic town hall.
