The SpaceI call it a cabin, but it is actually a two bedroom plus sleeping loft home with both a living room and family room totaling 1700 square feet. It is a great place to get away and relax. You can walk for miles out the back door and not see anyone, including during hunting season. It is in the middle of a multi thousand acre no hunting wildlife sanctuary -- every year of the eight years I've owned it I see more wildlife than the previous year. The family room has three big comfortable chairs and stereo system into which you can plug your iphone, laptop or other music source. Speakers are located throughout the ground floor. The living room has three big arm chairs. Off to the side, the circular stair case leads to the sleeping loft. The kitchen is fully equipped -- gas range, electric oven. The eat-in kitchen has windows on three sides with French doors opening onto the Wildway forest. The bedrooms and sleeping loft all have king-sized beds. There are two three piece bathrooms, one with a shower and one with an old, deep clawfoot tub. The master bedroom has an adjoining movie room (no cable or TV but it has a DVD player and is hooked up for internet streaming). A second large bedroom -- roughly the same size as the master, also has a stereo system. There is also a stereo system in the family room with speakers throughout the ground floor. The property has a fire pit for campfire cooking (please ask for help if you are not experienced with woodfires). There is a washer and dryer for guest use. Cleaning fee of $50 applies just to stays of less than one week. When you send me a reservation request, that $100 is added automatically, but I'll respond with a special offer removing it if you are asking for a stay of a week or longer. I haven't rented this place for a couple of years -- it is very special to me and it was abused by a couple of groups who partied and left huge piles of garbage behind -- liquor and beer bottles, cigarette butts all over the place outside. So please excuse me but I must be clear about the following: NO PARTIES. NATURE LOVERS ONLY. I need to know the names, addresses and phone numbers of all adults staying in the property. Guest AccessThe retreat is just under two miles from the Boquet River, which includes several beautiful swimming holes, five miles from Lake Champlain and about 7 miles from Essex NY, which has a public beach. About 100 feet from this home is a firepit where you can cook over a campfire. Interaction with GuestsI will likely be there to greet you. If not, a close friend will meet you. The NeighborhoodThe Split Rock Wildway was originally conceived to link up the High Peaks with The Split Rock State Forest. In total, several nonprofits and the State have accumulated about 36,000 acres, much of which is no hunting, no motorized vehicles. The abundant bird and other wildlife seems to increase each year. This home is about a mile backcountry hike from the extensive CATS (Champlain Area Trail System: (URL HIDDEN) -- a 35 mile network of beautiful trails through the woods of the eastern Adirondacks. This cabin is at the foot of Sprig Mountain with magnificent views of the High Peaks at the top of a range of cliffs. This home is a quarter mile drive in off Walker Road, a paved, well-maintained road. Getting AroundThis retreat is five hours north of New York City (Westport exit on the Northway) and about five hours from Boston. There is no public transit -- you need a vehicle to access this property. There are airports in both Burlington and Plattsburgh (40 minutes drive away) and the Amtrak Montrealer stops in Westport NY, about 15 minutes drive away.

The SpaceBuilt in the 1780s with additions in the 1820s and 1875, this historic, spacious yet cozy home spans three architectural styles: Colonial, Greek Revival, and Victorian, including a double staircase salvaged from the wreck of the famous lake ferry Champlain in 1875. From the vaulted master bedroom with Juliet balcony to the 3000-volume library that was once the town's post office, from the romantic perennial garden inspired by poet Emily Dickinson's to the renovated gourmet kitchen with marble countertops and stainless professional appliances, this house with its eclectic vintage decor and contemporary conveniences will fuel your imagination and revive your spirit. Centrally located on Essex's Main Street, only minutes from the ferry to Vermont and renowned Essex Farm, inside you will find rooms outfitted for your comfort and enjoyment. Three of four bedrooms are perfect for couples, with one queen and two double beds; another single bedroom, two as-needed queen-size aerobeds, and deep sectional sofa will sleep up to twelve comfortably. Two full baths have been renovated in the last year with keen attention to detail: a clawfoot tub in one, subway tiled shower in the other, with high-end faucetry and lighting in both, as well as salvaged wood shelving and a Victorian bar cabinet drafted into service as a linen chest. Fully equipped kitchen for cooks and bakers, with dual-fuel professional-grade range and appliances by Kitchenaid, Frigidaire, Cuisinart. Furnishings, lighting and art throughout the house by noted contemporary artists and craftsmen. The NeighborhoodKnown for its serenity and beauty, notably for having one of the most intact ensembles of Federal and Greek Revival architecture in the U.S. (the entire town is listed on the National Register of Historic Places), Essex is a perfect place for a quiet holiday from the bustling world – and yet there is plenty to do, see, and eat in and around Essex! Located within Adirondack Park, Essex is surrounded by great hiking trails and incredible views. Cycling, paddling, and other water sports are also popular and plentiful. Lake Placid is an easy and picturesque drive, as is Burlington, Vermont across the lake. For a taste of European culture and urbanity, Montreal is less than two hours north. In the village, enjoy the annual Fourth of July festivities (including the parade down Main Street, which you can watch from the house’s balcony and front porch), Essex Day in early August, art gallery openings and Thursday Night Tacos at the favorite local coffee house, The Pink Pig. Take a self-guided walking tour of local architecture, have lunch on the Marina at The Old Dock or Chez Lyn & Ray’s, or cocktails in the rustic bar at the Essex Inn. Although only an hour and 10 minutes drive from Burlington Vermont (a half hour of which is on the Charlotte-Essex Ferry) this retreat is deep in the Split Rock Wildway, a multi-thousand acre no-hunting, no-motorized vehicle nature preserve. You can hike without concern about encountering hunters during hunting season. It is a great place to get away and relax. I call it a cabin, but it is actually a two bedroom plus sleeping loft home totaling 1700 square feet. You can walk for miles out the back door and not see anyone. The family room has four big comfortable chairs and stereo system into which you can plug your iphone, laptop or other music source. The kitchen is fully equiped -- gas range, electric oven. The eat-in kitchen has windows on three sides with French doors opening onto the Wildway forest. There are two bedrooms and a sleeping loft, each with a king sized bed. The master bedroom has an adjoining movie room (no cable or TV but hooked up for internet streaming and it has a DVD player) and 3 piece bath (shower -- the clawfoot bathtub is downstairs). The second bedroom has a king-sized bed, internet connection and stereo system. The property has a fire pit for campfire cooking (please ask for help if you are not experienced with woodfires) about a hundred feet into the woods. There is a washer and dryer for guest use. The property is five hours north of New York City (Westport exit on the Northway) and about five hours from Boston. There are airports in both Burlington and Plattsburgh (40 minutes drive away) and the Amtrak Montrealer stops in Westport NY, about 15 minutes drive away. House Rules: • No parties. I removed the property from VRBO for a couple of years because it was abused by groups wanting to be isolated to have a big party, leaving behind hundreds of pounds of garbage -- empty liquor and beer bottles, cigarette butts all over the place. Unfortunately, as a result, I require the names and addresses of all adults staying in the property and a $500 damage deposit, refundable just after check out. • In order to properly clean the home between guests, we've set a checkout of 11am and check in of 3pm, but we may be able to accommodate earlier check-in, or later check out. Please let me know if you would like special arrangements and I'll try to make it work with the cleaning person. • Children are welcome but please be aware that there are breakable items around and so for reasons of safety and cost, they need to be supervised. • A dog may be welcome, depending. Let's discuss first. • No more than six guests in this home. • Please only put toilet paper in toilets as this home is on a septic system and disposal of flushable wipes or feminine products causes the system to back up. • Smoking is permitted outdoors only.

When you send me a reservation request, that $100 is added automatically, but I'll respond with a special offer removing it. NO PARTIES. NATURE LOVERS ONLY. Please safely dispose of butts rather than throw them on the ground. Thanks!

I call it a cabin, but it is actually a two bedroom plus sleeping loft home with both a living room and family room totaling 1700 square feet.
