The SpaceEnjoy a peaceful vacation any time of the year on a private and secluded waterfront peninsula on a hill overlooking a tidal saltwater creek, where crabbing, kayaking, fishing or just relaxing await you. You’ll likely spot great blue herons, osprey, egrets, bald eagles, deer or wild turkey. Our modern one bedroom cottage features a great room, bedroom with queen bed, bath with shower, walk in closet, laundry room and front porch overlooking the water.
Two of our favorite reviews: "This is not 5 stars... THIS IS 10!!!” and "Some of the nicest folks we have ever met, it's like they invented the word hosting." The bottom line: we enjoy having guests and sharing our little piece of paradise with you!
Catch blue crabs or try for a fish off the dock, enjoy our saltwater pool, or use our kayaks and canoe to explore the cove and marshes. Bring your own motorboat and use the boat ramp just four miles away for Chesapeake Bay fishing (no license required if fishing from the Morley's Wharf dock). Bike or walk down the dead end road at the end of our driveway or venture out to one of several recommended hiking trails. The fall season brings lovely colors, and occasionally we get snowed in during winter months, a real treat!
Our modern cottage features a comfortable queen size bed; bathroom with shower; robes, toiletries, beach towels, ceiling fans, free WiFi, A/C, satellite TV-DVD, CD/radio and extra outlets with USB charging ports. In the morning, enjoy coffee on the porch or the dock overlooking our tranquil view.
Our coastal decor includes locally-designed dinnerware decorated with blue crabs. We have a fully-loaded kitchen where you can steam your own crabs and prepare all meals. The cottage also has lots of board games, DVDs, CDs, books and a washer/dryer. Great front porch with tables and chairs to enjoy the water view, along with a charcoal grill (we supply charcoal).
SORRY but no pets. We have a very friendly Labradoodle named Shiloh who loves to hang out on the dock while you are crabbing, her favorite sport (she is non-shedding and hypo-allergenic). SPECIAL NOTE: We RARELY see a mosquito! Sometimes no-see-ums or biting flies in May, but we have insect repellent if needed. Guest AccessFeel free to enjoy our saltwater swimming pool, open top kayaks and a canoe, along with crabbing off the dock and several outdoor table areas. Fishing gear if needed. We have beach towels, small cooler, beach chairs etc. We also have access to a small private Chesapeake Bay beach a short drive away if needed (we would guide you there and you can return when desired, our parking pass is required). Interaction with GuestsWe will be glad to teach you how to catch, cook and eat crabs, or kayak. Our typical summertime guest experience involves us helping you catch crabs, teaching you how to cook and pick out the meat, and working together (frequently) to pick out the meat. Jim will be thrilled to tell you how to make crab cakes! We are usually around, so feel free to ask questions or join us for a chat on the porch. The NeighborhoodOur location is so secluded that most of our guests don't want to leave once they get here. The dead end paved road by our driveway has very little traffic and is great for biking or hiking. We are eight miles from U.S. Route 13, the major north-south thoroughfare on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Virginia Beach is an hour south, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Getting AroundBring what you need as we are 8 miles away from the closest grocery! There is a small store by our local post office that is occasionally open during the summer for basics. Other Things to NoteWe are off the beaten track, about half an hour north of Cape Charles where there's a public sandy beach, and an hour south of Chincoteague and Assateague Island, where the wild ponies roam. We are pleased to offer restaurant and tourism information, or lessons in crabbing, kayaking or fishing. We also will be glad to give you a behind-the-scenes tour of Blue Crab Bay Co., our specialty food business.
We are located just five minutes from YMCA Camp Silver Beach and eight miles from Exmore where there is a grocery store, liquor store and a pharmacy. Restaurant recommendations are 10-22 miles away. We have an award-winning local winery (Chatham Vineyards), a huge antique mall (Blue Crow Antique Mall) and many quaint and charming villages for you to explore.
