The SpaceEnjoy a peaceful vacation any time of the year on a private and secluded waterfront peninsula on a hill overlooking a tidal saltwater creek, where crabbing, kayaking, fishing or just relaxing await you. You’ll likely spot great blue herons, osprey, egrets, bald eagles, deer or wild turkey. Our modern one bedroom cottage features a great room, bedroom with queen bed, bath with shower, walk in closet, laundry room and front porch overlooking the water. Two of our favorite reviews: "This is not 5 stars... THIS IS 10!!!” and "Some of the nicest folks we have ever met, it's like they invented the word hosting." The bottom line: we enjoy having guests and sharing our little piece of paradise with you! Catch blue crabs or try for a fish off the dock, enjoy our saltwater pool, or use our kayaks and canoe to explore the cove and marshes. Bring your own motorboat and use the boat ramp just four miles away for Chesapeake Bay fishing (no license required if fishing from the Morley's Wharf dock). Bike or walk down the dead end road at the end of our driveway or venture out to one of several recommended hiking trails. The fall season brings lovely colors, and occasionally we get snowed in during winter months, a real treat! Our modern cottage features a comfortable queen size bed; bathroom with shower; robes, toiletries, beach towels, ceiling fans, free WiFi, A/C, satellite TV-DVD, CD/radio and extra outlets with USB charging ports. In the morning, enjoy coffee on the porch or the dock overlooking our tranquil view. Our coastal decor includes locally-designed dinnerware decorated with blue crabs. We have a fully-loaded kitchen where you can steam your own crabs and prepare all meals. The cottage also has lots of board games, DVDs, CDs, books and a washer/dryer. Great front porch with tables and chairs to enjoy the water view, along with a charcoal grill (we supply charcoal). SORRY but no pets. We have a very friendly Labradoodle named Shiloh who loves to hang out on the dock while you are crabbing, her favorite sport (she is non-shedding and hypo-allergenic). SPECIAL NOTE: We RARELY see a mosquito! Sometimes no-see-ums or biting flies in May, but we have insect repellent if needed. Guest AccessFeel free to enjoy our saltwater swimming pool, open top kayaks and a canoe, along with crabbing off the dock and several outdoor table areas. Fishing gear if needed. We have beach towels, small cooler, beach chairs etc. We also have access to a small private Chesapeake Bay beach a short drive away if needed (we would guide you there and you can return when desired, our parking pass is required). Interaction with GuestsWe will be glad to teach you how to catch, cook and eat crabs, or kayak. Our typical summertime guest experience involves us helping you catch crabs, teaching you how to cook and pick out the meat, and working together (frequently) to pick out the meat. Jim will be thrilled to tell you how to make crab cakes! We are usually around, so feel free to ask questions or join us for a chat on the porch. The NeighborhoodOur location is so secluded that most of our guests don't want to leave once they get here. The dead end paved road by our driveway has very little traffic and is great for biking or hiking. We are eight miles from U.S. Route 13, the major north-south thoroughfare on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Virginia Beach is an hour south, across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. Getting AroundBring what you need as we are 8 miles away from the closest grocery! There is a small store by our local post office that is occasionally open during the summer for basics. Other Things to NoteWe are off the beaten track, about half an hour north of Cape Charles where there's a public sandy beach, and an hour south of Chincoteague and Assateague Island, where the wild ponies roam. We are pleased to offer restaurant and tourism information, or lessons in crabbing, kayaking or fishing. We also will be glad to give you a behind-the-scenes tour of Blue Crab Bay Co., our specialty food business. We are located just five minutes from YMCA Camp Silver Beach and eight miles from Exmore where there is a grocery store, liquor store and a pharmacy. Restaurant recommendations are 10-22 miles away. We have an award-winning local winery (Chatham Vineyards), a huge antique mall (Blue Crow Antique Mall) and many quaint and charming villages for you to explore. Contact us about availability or check out the Airbnb calendar. Rates run $135-175 per night based on the season, double occupancy. Rates listed on Airbnb's site include our local and state taxes of 10.3%. Rates are generally lower from fall through spring. Guest AccessYou have the home to yourself, including the bedrooms, eat-in gourmet kitchen, formal dining room, family room, large screened porch, a brick patio with a huge 17th century fireplace for outdoor cooking, and 2 acres of lawn with wetlands and river on two sides. There is an outdoor seating area on the water -- perfect for your morning coffee. Some guests enjoy a morning jog along our long drive from the house to the road and back. It's a perfect mile. Finally, we do have kayaks, paddles and life vests at the house that you may borrow, at your own risk. If you put in at the house, do so around high tide to avoid a walk through the dense muck, and be aware that there are RAZOR SHARP MUSSELS in the sea grass. You must wear sturdy shoes with actual soles, securely strapped to your feet. Even in river sandals like Tevas you can be cut on the sides of your feet if you stumble. We're sorry to be downers but you must be aware of those risks. We're a working farm, and we ask that you not enter the fences into the pastures and working areas, but we will provide you some tasty grain for our friendly sheep in case you can tempt them to come to the fence. Interaction with GuestsDuring your stay, the owner may be staying in the separate, on-site apartment in our dairy building. If not, you'll have a phone number for our local caretaker who will quickly resolve any issues you have. Unless you request our help, we'll leave you on your own to enjoy the nature and solitude. The NeighborhoodThe Eastern Shore of Virginia is a paradise for nature lovers. Here at Willowdale you can enjoy world class bird watching, with bald and golden eagles, songbirds, owls, woodpeckers, ducks, geese, herons and cranes and more. Willowdale itself is incredibly private. Where it's not on the water, there is 80 acres of pasture and farm fields, bordered by forest. Driving down our half mile lane you're also driving back several centuries in time. Stargazing here is phenomenal. On a clear night you'll swear you can touch the milky way. Getting AroundThere are no public transportation options anywhere nearby, to speak of. You'll need a car, and bear in mind Willowdale is at the end of a half mile lane of compacted shell. From the farm, you're about 5 miles to restaurants and shops in Exmore, 5 miles to the quaint fishing village of Wachapreague, 10 miles to lovely, historic Onancock, 10 miles to Silver Beach and about a 45 minute drive to Assateague Island. Other Things to NoteWhen tides are unusually high (usually when storms have been in the area), the access lane is sometimes blocked at high tide by water. Please don't try to drive through it! In all but the strongest tides it will go down again within an hour.

Relaxed is the word here. Cottage is located at Smith Beach approximately 15 minutes north of Cape Charles, VA. House is an easy, 150 foot walk from the beach. The cottage is around 1200 square feet and features a living room, large bedroom, 1 full and one half bath, sunroom with futon, and a large screened porch with water views that is perfect for entertaining or quiet hours. The cottage will sleep 4 adults comfortably or two adults and several children. The beach has long expanses for walking and swimming with a lot of nature to enjoy which you typically cannot see at large beaches (enjoy the pelicans, osprey, and bald eagles as well as numerous species of shorebirds, you might even see a deer swim in the bay!) Two excellent golf courses are 15 minutes away in Cape Charles. There is a boat ramp available for Smith Beach residents and guests and fishing is typically good and sometimes great. Charter fishing is available from Cape Charles and Wachapreague which offers inshore and deep sea trips. A number of good restaurants are close by and the Eastern Shore has many interesting places to visit - Onancock is about 45 minutes and Chincoteague/Assateague and Wallops Island are a little over an hour North. Mockhorn Island Wildlife Management Area is which is known for birding is also close by. Cycling, running and walking are extremely pleasant here with many options and low traffic. This area is quiet and relaxing, there is a lot (or little if you like) to do but the stimulation comes from nature and fun not noise and crowds. There are sunsets.

Our family has traveled all over the world to beach resorts and famous fishing locations. We discovered the quaint seaside village of Quinby, VA and fell in love with it! We walk down to the harbor where our boat is docked and explore the barrier islands of the Eastern Shore. Amazing fishing (in-shore and off-shore), clamming, crabbing, shelling, tubing, surfing and picnicking on the beach. The town is quiet and perfect for biking and relaxing on the patio at night under the stars with the firepit. We enjoy spotting satellites and stars at night. We also love to explore the nearby antique stores for treasures, and visit the local wineries. We have hosted many fishing parties, and everyone always leaves relaxed and happy. The fishing is amazing. We are just south of Wachapreague, the flounder capital of the East Coast. You will find some amazing beaches on the nearby barrier islands accessible by boat: Perrimore and Hog Island. If you do not have access to a boat (rental available at the Wachapreague Marina),there are also several beautiful public beaches in the area: Virginia's Eastern Shore, home to three notable beaches, is connected to the mainland via the 17.6-mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, which snakes between the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay. Kiptopeke State Park on the Chesapekae Bay is a great place to watch migrating birds and enjoy the Eastern Shore Birding Festival every October. Cape Charles Beach, with its shallow waters and no waves, is great for small children. Cape Charles is the Eastern Shore's southern-most town and offers public access onto the beach by two wooden walkovers located near the end of Tazewell and Randolph Avenues, as well as the Town's Fun Pier which also has a wooden walkover. The Pavilion and several park benches are constructed on the paved walkway. The Peninsula's best-known attractions are the sister islands of Assateague and Chincoteague. A short causeway connects the two islands. While Chincoteague offers no actual beachfront, the town and island feature charming restaurants, shops, bicycle rentals, craft galleries and one-of-a-kind museums. Be on the lookout for its most famous residents - the wild poinies that gained worldwide fame in Misty of Chincoteague, a book written by Marguerite Henry in 1947. We hope you will enjoy this magical place as much as we do. Keywords: Cottage, Boat Dock, Kayaking, Nestled in Quaint Seaside Fishing Village of Quinby, Eastern Shore of Virginia.
