The SpaceIdeal house for two couples to share - this country home has two bedrooms, each with ensuite bathroom. Just 2 hrs 15 min to Christchurch airport and about 35mins to Lake Tekapo, the location is perfect for people travelling from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook and the southern lakes region. Or as a base for exploring the Mackenzie district - Mount Cook is only about 1.5 hrs drive from here. All services are available in nearby Fairlie - a charming rural town just 8km from the Lodge.
Set on an elevated site of about 10 acres, and surrounded by farm land, the house is modern, architecturally & eco-designed with sun, warmth and views in mind. It's got loads of rustic character - lots of rimu & native wood trim. A modern galley-style designer kitchen with gas cooktop and electric oven is available for use. The spacious lounge has huge picture windows looking out over the Fairlie basin and surrounding mountains. Sit inside in the warmth with the roaring log fire, or on sunny days relax on the large deck area out front and soak up the ambience in complete privacy. At night, the sky is completely dark - no streetlights or neighbours here! Stars can be seen so clearly, you'll think you can reach out and touch them - see the Milky Way, the Southern Cross and millions of galaxies. This is one very unique and special place - 1 night won't do it justice - you won't want to leave! Guest AccessYou will enjoy access to the entire house, surrounding gardens, covered deck area, open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge areas. And of course, you have the use of the two double bedrooms, each with their own queen-sized bed and private ensuite bathrooms. The living spaces are warm, spacious and with huge double-glazed windows allowing fantastic views of your rural surroundings and nearby mountains. Interaction with GuestsYou will have the whole house to yourself. We don't live at the property, but we will try to greet you when you arrive and show you around. (otherwise we will arrange a hidden key for you). Then we leave you alone so that you have complete privacy to enjoy this beautiful secluded place. We live only 5 minutes away in Fairlie, so we can be available anytime to assist you during your stay. In less than 5 minutes drive you can be enjoying open countryside, walking or biking alongside the Opihi river, or relaxing in great cafes with superb coffee and locally-made food. The town centre has a supermarket, bakery, post shop, cafes, petrol stations, two hotels and an assortment of shops - all just 5 mins away by car.
The historic Fairlie Museum is just a few minutes walk from the town centre, with another cafe right beside it. There is a magnificent collection of vintage and classic cars in a huge shed nearby.
The Rimuwhare Red Stag restaurant (licensed) is just on the other side of the museum.

The Round Hill skifield is close to Lake Tekapo too, and there are lots of hiking and mountain biking tracks in the area. Getting AroundThere is no public transport available. It is essential you have your own means of transportation.
There is loads of off-road parking, and one vehicle can be parked under cover in the carport adjacent to the house.
Safety tips for overseas drivers:-
* Stay Left! In NZ we drive on the left side of the road. It can be easy to forget especially with our lower traffic numbers!
* Watch the Road! Our awesome scenery often distracts overseas drivers. It's safer to pull over and stop to look and take photos.
* Park Safely! Stop well clear of highways when stopping. While we don't have as many cars on our roads as you might be used to, they travel fast! Open highway speed is 100 kph.
* Use footpaths and walkways! It is very unsafe to walk on our highways. If it is unavoidable, walk on the RIGHT side of the road facing oncoming traffic and wear bright coloured clothes. Carry a light at night.
Have a safe and enjoyable journey! :-) Other Things to NotePlease note that breakfast is not provided. On request we can do so and it will be at extra cost - the price will depend on what you would like to have. Just ask & we will tell you the cost.
There is not an electric clothes dryer - feel free to use the washing line outside. Clothes pegs are beside the line, by the big green water tank.
We have lived in this area for many years and know it well. As keen outdoor people - hikers and mountain bikers - we can help you plan your day trips to suit your interests.
