The SpaceComfy double (not queen) bed overlooks gardens, valley. Private (non-adjacent) bathroom, lots of hot water, home-cooked local food. No visible neighbors, no ambient light or sound (well, the surf, the birds...), 1/2 mi from beach. Big desk, great Wifi, rocking chair, spring water. Guest AccessGuests have full access to living and dining room and laundry, as well as the rest of the acreage on the forested property. Interaction with GuestsWe eat our hearty breakfast (homemade bread, fruit, eggs many styles, cheese, sausages, vegetable/rice dishes, etc.) with our guests. Our private quarters are upstairs, but we're on premises (altho we both have work outside the home), as are our aging, sweet dogs, Frank and Tickie. We consider Airbnb guests as house guests, and do everything possible to make your visit comfortable and happy. The NeighborhoodWe are Superhosts with five-star reviews, but here's what bothered some guests: the bed in this room is a double bed, not a queen. In "weather," the house creaks. It's an old house, The bathroom is private, but not adjacent to your room. There are no curtains on the windows (because it is a private valley). Coyotes howl, cell-phones rarely work (Wifi is great, though). The 4-mile road to our house from Ferndale is a country road, unlit, and full of wildlife after dark. We do have comfy beds, good fresh food home-cooked, amazing views, no ambient light or noise. You will eat very well and sleep very well. Regardless of your age, think of this as the visit to country grandparents who will spoil you. Getting AroundNo public transportation of any kind. A personal vehicle is a necessity. Other Things to NoteWe have good central heating, but there are occasional drafts. Locals drop by unexpectedly with fresh fish or honey or crab or other bounty, and stay for dinner. Dogs want to go out in the middle of the night. Coyotes howl. A bobcat shows up or -- once -- a bear. Deer graze in the pasture. We are on 80 mostly wooded acres, some good hikes nearby. Nearly deserted, driftwood-filled, wild edge-of-the-earth beach one mile away.

The SpaceNo neighbors visible, no sounds of city life, no ambient light. The rustic house is "farmhouse Victorian." Our private valley is lush & filled with wildlife. We have two wireless internet systems, but -- attention! -- the hills block most cellphone signals, and once in a while, who knows, ask Frontier, our DSL/wireless fades in and out. We cook fresh local food. We try to accommodate most dietary preferences. Suite includes reading/television room, private bath, bedroom with a queen-sized bed and morning-sun porch with private entrance. Guests have full use of living/dining room, laundry facilities, and all the grounds. Guest AccessFull access to property, and full-access to house excepting our private quarters upstairs and the second Airbnb bedroom/bathrooom. Centerville Beach is a one-mile walk. Interaction with GuestsWe live on the premises and are about most of the time, although we both are self-employed outside the home. You are invited to join us for dinner and, of course, a full breakfast. We have a library of local brochures, tourist info, and "insider" local history (if asked). We enjoy good conversation over meals, but also understand that you have plans of your own. We're there if you want to hang out, and we're in our own quarters if you don't. We're early risers and early resters. You may meet other travelers at our house as well: We have two Airbnb bedrooms and often both are booked. The NeighborhoodBeautiful valley by the ocean; neighbors are beef ranchers. Small, Victorian-gingerbread town four miles east is a real town, not only a tourist attraction. There is a burgeoning young music scene, blacksmiths, a kayak builder, sculptors, painters -- all open to visitors and participants. Just ask. We have a 45-year-old repertory theater, a 138-year-old weekly newspaper, and a busy, eclectic, highly rated museum. Come for a week and live like a local in one of America's last true villages. Of course, there's also Big Nature: birding, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, cycling, running, outdoor photography, film-making, fishing, duck hunting, historic cemeteries, Victorian architecture, exceptional regional food, cooking and baking. Thoroughbred horse racing in August. World-famous kinetic sculpture race on Memorial Day weekend. World's tallest living Christmas tree lighting, lighted tractor parade, in December. Main Street shopping. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation. Parking is easy at the house and everywhere, but a vehicle is necessary to get around the greater area, and in winter, when we are apt to have heavy rains, a well-maintained vehicle is recommended. Other Things to NoteHere's what some guests haven't liked about our place: Our private quarters are upstairs and the stairs creak. The very old dog, Frank, sleeps upstairs & has go to out in the middle of the night. In "weather" -- and we can have Big Weather -- the house shudders. It's a 70-year-old house (built from recycled redwood and war surplus by family and friends): there can be drafts (although we have good central heating & use it). Coyotes howl, cell-phones really don't work (but email/text does and our Wifi is good.) There are unexpected creature visitations (raccoons, bobcats, squirrels, eagles and hawks, possum, rabbits, chipmunks, porcupines, deer, foxes and a bear). The 4-mile road to our house from Ferndale is a paved but a rough country road, unlit, and full of wildlife after dark. The good stuff: Water: fresh spring water to drink & in a jug in your room; hot & lots for showers. We welcome children (cots, sofas, toddler bed, etc.). Lots of room in the suite for portable cribs, etc (bring your own). We have an industrial-strength swing set. Dogs are non-aggressive and sweet. You will eat well and sleep well. Fireplace for the storm with curl-up reading spaces. Variety of teas four feet away, kettle always on. Regardless of your age, this is a visit to grandparents who adore you and who will make you pancakes in the middle of the night if that will make you happy.

The SpaceStop the presses! The Quarters is in the same historic Ferndale Victorian as the office of the 138-year old award-winning Ferndale Enterprise newspaper. (The Victorian, built in 1888, was featured in the 2001 movie "The Majestic" and the 1979 television film "Salem's Lot" as Barlow's Antique Shop.) Located at the end of historic Main Street (right smack close to America's tallest lighted Xmas tree) The Enterprise office is open from 10 am to 5 pm weekdays and your 7-room space is located behind the front office and has a separate entrance. (You'll hear the editor typing the ol' Underwood during business hours.) Enjoy the Victorian's front porch and watch Ferndale's many parades or grab a cuppa of joe and sit and enjoy the magnificent view of Ferndale's historic hill cemetery. (Also featured in "The Majestic," starring Jim Carrey.) If you're so inclined, help us label the newspapers on Thursday mornings! (You can't do that on the Internet!) The Quarters is just steps away from Ferndale's many restaurants and pubs and offers a cozy, eclectic space with a sunny interior, fun vintage furnishings — including an upcycled farmhouse sink — a vintage Western Holly gas cookstove, an original clawfoot bathtub, a dining room "pew" from the local mortuary and a bar constructed from an old redwood welding bench! Get a good night's sleep on The Quarters queen-size tempurpedic bed. The space also includes a new Ikea Backabro/Marieby pull-out sofa bed with chaise lounge (sleeps two) and a new pull-out twin bed hidden in the living room's leather ottoman! Guest AccessEnjoy The Enterprise's front porch and its half-acre of secluded creekside property in the rear. Looking for information on what to see and do in the area? Pop into The Enterprise's front office and just ask. We're always happy to give guests "inside scoop" on where to eat, hike and visit. Pick up a copy of our Souvenir Edition newspaper for a walking-tour map and details on all the fun Main Street stores. Interaction with GuestsWe're available from 10 am to 5 pm weekdays if you have questions and always available by phone, text, email or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) if there are any issues. You'll hear The Enterprise small staff crank up the presses at 10 am, but we're closing it down by 5 pm and headed to the local watering hole to discuss the day's news. We might see you there since it's just across the street from the newspaper! When you're our guest, we stay in a back apartment in the rear of The Quarters. The apartment is separated by two doors and a hallway. You won't hear us and we won't hear you. The NeighborhoodFerndale is a throwback to a Norman Rockwell America and The Quarters is a perfect spot to experience the historic and unique Victorian Village. There's plenty to do within the city limits (leave your car keys behind) — shopping, dining, art galleries, well-preserved architecture, a world-class local museum, parades, firemen's games, fun runs, live music, live horse-racing at the Humboldt County Fair and our own repertory theatre — but there's also plenty to do within a short drive. The beach is a 10-minute scenic drive from The Quarters (no traffic and no parking issues) and features well-maintained BLM trails that deliver you onto, what is most times, a private beach. A trip over historic Fernbridge takes you to Loleta Cheese to pick up a picnic before you take in the Humboldt Bay Wildlife Refuge (great place to walk the trails, all on flat land, and view wildlife and wetland habitat). Across Hwy 101 from the refuge is the College of the Redwoods botanical garden — another great picnic spot. The North Coast's inspiring redwoods are a 20-minute drive south and the waterfront town of Eureka is 20 minutes to the north. Getting AroundFerndale is a great walkable town. No need to drive during your stay unless you want to head to the beach or "over the bridge." Other Things to NoteWe'll give you the password to our Wi-Fi and our Netflix and Amazon Prime to view on the living room's flat-screen telly. (Be sure and watch our downloaded copies of "The Majestic" and "Outbreak" - both filmed in Ferndale.) We have central heat and three electric "fireplaces." Our Western Holly vintage gas cooking stove (aka "Holly") is a workhorse but has a few quirks. The clawfoot tub is both a bathtub and shower. (Please note, some older guests have noted it's not easy getting in an out of the vintage tub . . . if access might be an issue for you, perhaps our home is not the best fit.) Your towels will be warm and cozy on our heated towel bar. Please note, your nightly fee includes a 10 percent Ferndale city Transient Occupancy Tax and a 2 percent Humboldt County Lodging Alliance tax that we collect on behalf of the city and county before passing it on to their coffers.

The SpaceIf you wanna see Prince Islands, Kadıköy center, Moda, Uskudar (Üsküdar) and other historical and well known local districts in Asian side, I will give you some good tips with travel documents such as map and stuff. ** Small update note: I am very happy to see some of my guests want to stay with me again when they visit here again :D I have had some guests who could not make reservation with their card cause they had some problem in the payment section. I already have 2 guests who want to book my room as they will come to see Istanbul sometime in the near future. This website is not only about 'paying the bills' as an extra income but also about cultural interaction and getting new friends. I am happy with this! :D *** I have a sunny, spare room to rent, one portable bed in it but there is also a sofa that turns out to a bed for 2 people in the living room. The kitchen is American style. Shops, markets, cake shops are like a few minutes away. 5-7 mins walk to the minibus road where the transportation is available 7/24. Minibus and the bus station is in front of my apartment. Hot water and internet is available the whole day. I can provide new and clean towels for you and can also give you recommendations about where to go, what to do. I know its confusing to pick up which places are worth to see in a limited time when you are in a trip, so I can come and enjoy the city with you in one of the weekend IF i have no plan ahead and if you would like to have a company. I have lived in European side before but never planning to do it again as Anatolian side is way much calmer imo. I don't enjoy metropolitan city chaos, so I am lucky to live in a nice district. There are many places you can see in this side of the city and if you don't enjoy to see thousands of tourists around, you will have no regret to experience your stay here. :) And after all, its SO easy to pass to the European side either by ferry, by bus, buy minibus or metrobus. By ferry, you can have traditional turkish tea and enjoy the view of Bosphorus or feed the seagulls waiting some attention from the passengers :) From here, its also easy to see the old city of Uskudar, the Prince islands, Kadıköy pubs street and many more! There is sth wrong with the map, I cant make any updates and I cant put any link on my profile either as it is hidden by airbnb, so write me for the direct link of my home. Interaction with GuestsIn the evenings, after work. Depending on my plans, I might be free in weekends too. The NeighborhoodI love the neighborhood as there are a couple of markets, 3 bus stations, a really nice and well-known bakery shop, pharmacies and hospital very close to my apartment. If you wanna see Prince Islands, Kadıköy center, Moda, Uskudar (Üsküdar) and other historical and well known local districts in Asian side, I will give you some good tips with travel documents such as map and stuff. Getting AroundYes, as there are 3 local bus stations (IETT) and also in front of the apartment, there is this minibus road as well. Other Things to NoteIf you wanna see Prince Islands, Kadıköy center, Moda, Uskudar (Üsküdar) and other historical and well known local districts in Asian side, I will give you some good tips with travel documents such as map and stuff.
