It is quiet, peaceful, with gorgeous homes all around - great for a Sunday stroll. Neighbors are friendly and look out for each other. It is patrolled by a private security force who is extremely attentive and reliable. It is located just off of 7-Mile, near the main drags of Livernois and Woodward.
Close to Meijer (megastore with groceries, clothes, household needs, etc.), major roadways, downtown and midtown, Ferndale, and Royal Oak (Trader Joe's, Westborn Market, etc.). For food shopping, you should also check out Eastern Market downtown, especially on Saturdays. Getting Around2-car garage and ample driveway space (driveway, as well as walkway to front door, are being completely replaced before the available dates, so they'll be in tiptop shape).
Close to Chrysler, Lodge freeways, which will get you to 94, 96, and Southfield Freeway in no time. Several routes to midtown museums, universities, cultural institutions, hot restaurants, and nightlife, all 15-20 min. away. In the neighborhood are Noni's Sherwood Grill (a classic diner), a coffee shop/restaurant/juice bar, the highly rated Kuzzo's Chicken & Waffles, Dutch Girl Donuts (SO good!), a Boston Market, and a bunch of great little barbecue joints. Also close to basic amenities like pharmacies, Petco, etc.
Detroit, for obvious reasons, is a car town, but if you can subsist on a lot of bus transfers, we're a two-minute walk from the 23 and 45 bus lines. Go to rid(URL HIDDEN) for more info.
And of course there's always Uber. Other Things to NoteWe have gone away every summer for several years. Prior to this year we have lived in apartments and done formal sublets. This is our first year as homeowners - we would like to treat it like a formal rental, if possible, but let's discuss what your needs are and figure out the best way to make this work.
Pets are negotiable. We'd like to know a bit about your pet before we agree to you bringing him or her. We like animals, but just want to make sure you'll be able to keep the house clean and undamaged.
We would prefer to find someone to sublet for the entire summer, but dates are negotiable and if necessary, we can rent for smaller periods.
We just moved in ourselves in January, so we have not been here during the summer. My sense is that the house will be naturally cool (we live on a tree-lined, shaded street), and there is a newly installed attic fan that should be very effective at removing heat. There are also two window A/C units that we can install in the rooms of your choosing.
