The SpaceThis room comfortably fits 2 people (queen size bed). It is a great room for a good night's sleep (very dark with the blinds drawn and very peaceful). Guest AccessPrivate full bathroom, free use of a bicycle, access to washer and dryer, shared full gourmet kitchen, free wi-fi Interaction with GuestsWe're very congenial and convivial people, but respectful of guests privacy. The NeighborhoodUniversity District is one of Detroit's most beautiful historic neighborhoods. Most of the homes were built in the 1920's and display the charm of that era. It is very safe (we have private radio patrol security), and all the neighbors are super friendly. It is located near Palmer Park, an large old-growth park great for jogging, walking, bbq's. etc. Getting AroundWe can provide the use of a bicycle. Lift and Uber operate in the area. Busses run nearby on 7mile, 6mile (McNichols) and Livernois. If you plan on doing a lot of sight-seeing, a car rental is highly recommended. Other Things to NoteWe have two very young roommates: Yasmine, our daughter, is less than a year old, and while she is an incredibly happy baby (so we've been told) she does cry from time to time (as all baby's do!). Our other roommate is a very friendly dog named Ramona, that can be overwhelming to some folks. She's a 2 yr old Pitt-Lab-Sheperd mix and likes a lot of attention. We can keep her out of the second floor for guests that aren't so keen on her demands for affection. She can be very persistent but she's sweet and isn't harmful.

It will take you directly to downtown Detroit or further north in Oakland County to the Shopping Malls. Bus systems are not reliable, especially if you are on a time schedule. The SpaceIt's an all-stone house in a beauuutiful historic neighborhood with tree-lined streets, close to Detroit. We think the location is perfect because you are in the first village outside of Detroit, and it's the hottest place to be right now. My name is Tamela Ekstrom. I own HAVEN Real Estate + Design, and I am a real estate agent/decorator/artist. My husband is Evan Derian, he is a graphic designer/illustrator and comic book artist. The art-work is created by us or by or our friends, or from our travels. We hope you enjoy the space, we tried to make it fun, warm and cozy. We like mixing modern with antiques. If you are looking for something eclectic, in a great area close to Detroit. We invite you to experience Detroit with the stone house as your home base. Some articles on the rock house: (URL HIDDEN) file:///Users/gingergoldmine/Desktop/Oakland%20Press%20rock%20house%20article.pdf Guest AccessYou would have a 1300 sf house with HUGE front porch, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, dining room, living room, sunroom, full kitchen with stainless appliances: fridge, stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, instant hot water for tea. Fridge has an ice-maker. Easy street parking. We do stay in the lower level of the property so we do reserve the driveway for our cars so we can get into our space through the back door. Smoking is ok outside only. 4 guests max. We're fine with kids staying here, however, the home is not child-proofed. No cats. One small dog (under 35 lbs.) or possibly 2 smaller dogs. No territorial breeds or mixes. Small gatherings ok, no parties. If you want to have a few people over, please just talk with me about it before you book....we don't want too many people parking, and don't want to disrupt the neighbors. Free HBO GO and Free Netflix. Interaction with GuestsIf we are in town when you stay, and would like to meet me or us, I'm happy to do that. If you just want to be alone, no problem. We have lots of tips and info about Detroit, and being a Realtor, I know about all the neighborhoods. I also offer a Detroit Neighborhood Tour for people thinking of making Detroit home, I can send you more info, basically info or tours from $100 (overview of Detroit neighborhoods that are popping) to $500 (full day tour). The info has been collected over the past 6 years through hundreds of hours of research, through living here and investing here. I can point you in the direction for whatever you need, don't hesitate to ask! The NeighborhoodFerndale is an artsy enclave right outside of Detroit. It's a walkable neighborhood and it's just a few blocks to eclectic downtown Ferndale. This is the destination place right now. There are lots of bars and restaurants within a few blocks! Everyone comes to Ferndale for the food and fun. Go Comedy has fun things going on all the time, there is also a playhouse. RustBelt market is a MUST SEE if you are here for the weekend and love homemade goods and Detroit artwork. Flytrap and Toast have excellent breakfasts and Imperial, Public House, and The Emory are favorites for dinner. New Greenspace Cafe has vegan food and yummy drinks. Getting AroundAnything you need is walkable in Ferndale: grocery, liquor store, CVS, car rental, ice cream, restaurants with a 10 minute walk (10 short blocks to the downtown intersection but so much is even closer than that intersection). To go to Detroit you could use Uber or Lyft very easily if you just download the app. If you don't want to rent a car. If you want to rent a car, you can either do it at the airport, or we have Hertz within walking distance (7-10 minute walk). Enterprise is also in Ferndale, but probably a mile away. Zip cars are now available in Ferndale! 8-10 minute walk. Other Things to NoteThis is a house with a main level and lower level (the last 5 photos with red decorating) . The main level is what we rent on Airbnb to you. It is an entire 1300 sf house. It's your private space and is separated with a locked door in between the two spaces. You also have your own front entrance with large stone porch, that we won't use at all. You won't see us, we won't see you unless you need something. You probably won't hear us either, we will stay out of your way. But feel free to ask us anything, we're happy to help!

To arrive at midtown or downtown from our home is a 10-15 minute drive. Getting AroundThere is a bus system in Detroit, although I cannot speak for how dependable it is. The sitting room has a working fire place and den has a 55" TV. The house is tastefully decorated with unique artwork that has been collected from around the world. The SpaceThe 2nd floor flat/apartment is fully private with separate entrance door and stairway for guests, it measures approximately 600sq ft, features full 8' ceilings, a clean spacious newly remodeled bathroom, a screen/glass enclosed balcony, kitchenette with microwave, convection oven, coffee maker and mini fridge (no sink, no stove), living area with internet TV (Netflix and other services available) and futon, bedroom with queen bed. The apartment is is sprinkled with period furniture and hardware with the occasional whimsical touch tossed in. Free on site parking included. Superbly located, the house sits on a lovely mature suburban street bordering the downtown Ferndale business district. Walk through the back gate and a half dozen award winning restaurants/bistros/pubs are within a minutes walk. Overall more than 50 food/drink/entertainment choices are within easy (5 minutes) walking distance. The house itself is a a marvelous 20s colonial with craftsman style brickwork and chimney highlighting the exterior. Glass knobs & mortise locks (with skeleton key) add quaint elegance to the interior. Guest AccessGuest get exclusive access to the the 2nd floor flat, the stairs and entrance. Guests can also relax on the large deck out back. Interaction with GuestsI do my best to meet and greet my guests and give them a quick tour on arrival. But since I believe most guests value the privacy that an apartment provides I allow the guest to initiate any further interaction. So since we use separate entrances you probably won't even see much more of me unless you chose to. However I'm always just a phone call or text away ready to answer questions or fix problems. The NeighborhoodDowntown Ferndale is safe, and centrally located, with easy access to freeways in all directions. Downtown Detroit is 15 mins by car, Downtown Royal Oak 2 miles, Detroit Zoo 1 mile A wonderful place for a stroll, in season outdoor seating is available from many restaurants. Getting AroundApartment is located withing 100 yards of bus routes on 9 mile and Woodward. Bus service is notoriously poor south of 8 mile rd. I have used the system myself and only recommend it for those with a well developed sense of adventure. Uber is available. Other Things to NoteMY FAVORITE REVIEWS I highly recommend David's place! My husband and I loved the quaint, cozy, spacious and quiet space. The layout of the place was neat with all the different rooms and we felt like we could really relax. The screened in porch and updated bathroom (great water pressure) were nice touches. The location was excellent as it was just a short walk to the main street Woodward ave and downtown Ferndale. Seems like a safe neighborhood that we were comfortable walking around in the evenings. As we arrived around 4pm on a Sunday David made sure to tell us that we should check out the Rust Belt Market as they were open only on weekends. We loved a lot of the restaurants and coffee shops that were also just a short walk away. Communication with David was perfect and very easy. Well what can I say except exceptional! The apartment is small but well furnished and appointed with interesting paintings, books and stained glass. The floors look like they are the original wood and nostalgically squeak when walked on. The bathroom is modern, clean and the water pressure is phenomenal. There is a small covered and screened porch with rocking chairs to relax on. The living room has a TV that's connected to Netflix and over the air channels and WIFI is reliable and fast. The bedroom has a soft but comfortable bed and the living room has a pull out sofa bed with a closet full of additional sheets, pillows and comforters. There is off street parking with oodles of hip and interesting restaurants and bars within 200 yards of the apartment. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and located in the hip location of Ferndale, MI and for those people interested in running, like I do, the area is great with sidewalks everywhere. Upon arrival at midnight, the host David greeted me at the front door and explained how everything works. You are afforded complete privacy and when needed David made him self available to answer any questions and give advise on what to do and where to go. Overall this apartment is value for money, far better than a hotel room and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again if I'm in the neighborhood. Steven St Thomas, VI We absolutely loved staying at Dave's place. It was perfect. The place was so clean and comfortable. And the back upper deck was just perfect. Loved starting our morning there. We visited surrounding areas and Ferndale is kind of the perfect place to stay. It's so close to everything. And the restaurants....amazing! We love Detroit and now love Ferndale as well. Carla

We won't be in town, but can send someone to take care of any issues that arise. The NeighborhoodThis is a terrific neighborhood. It is quiet, peaceful, with gorgeous homes all around - great for a Sunday stroll. Neighbors are friendly and look out for each other. It is patrolled by a private security force who is extremely attentive and reliable. It is located just off of 7-Mile, near the main drags of Livernois and Woodward. Close to Meijer (megastore with groceries, clothes, household needs, etc.), major roadways, downtown and midtown, Ferndale, and Royal Oak (Trader Joe's, Westborn Market, etc.). For food shopping, you should also check out Eastern Market downtown, especially on Saturdays. Getting Around2-car garage and ample driveway space (driveway, as well as walkway to front door, are being completely replaced before the available dates, so they'll be in tiptop shape). Close to Chrysler, Lodge freeways, which will get you to 94, 96, and Southfield Freeway in no time. Several routes to midtown museums, universities, cultural institutions, hot restaurants, and nightlife, all 15-20 min. away. In the neighborhood are Noni's Sherwood Grill (a classic diner), a coffee shop/restaurant/juice bar, the highly rated Kuzzo's Chicken & Waffles, Dutch Girl Donuts (SO good!), a Boston Market, and a bunch of great little barbecue joints. Also close to basic amenities like pharmacies, Petco, etc. Detroit, for obvious reasons, is a car town, but if you can subsist on a lot of bus transfers, we're a two-minute walk from the 23 and 45 bus lines. Go to rid(URL HIDDEN) for more info. And of course there's always Uber. Other Things to NoteWe have gone away every summer for several years. Prior to this year we have lived in apartments and done formal sublets. This is our first year as homeowners - we would like to treat it like a formal rental, if possible, but let's discuss what your needs are and figure out the best way to make this work. Pets are negotiable. We'd like to know a bit about your pet before we agree to you bringing him or her. We like animals, but just want to make sure you'll be able to keep the house clean and undamaged. We would prefer to find someone to sublet for the entire summer, but dates are negotiable and if necessary, we can rent for smaller periods. We just moved in ourselves in January, so we have not been here during the summer. My sense is that the house will be naturally cool (we live on a tree-lined, shaded street), and there is a newly installed attic fan that should be very effective at removing heat. There are also two window A/C units that we can install in the rooms of your choosing.
