The property has a bit of everything from flat land, which slopes up a gentle rise to flat terraces on the hill. There are mature native and exotic trees and a wide variety of fruits, nuts, berries and ornamental trees established. The main house has been uniquely renovated with wooden shingles and stone cladding to fit into the surroundings. The verandah and pergola face towards the lake taking in the incredible views, which is why the rooms all have large picture windows. From here you can take in the mountains, well planted and kept gardens, and lake. A creek runs through the property, at the 45th Parallel South - meaning it is the same distance from here to the equator and the South Pole. The NeighborhoodFernhill is a hilly Queenstown suburb renowned for its amazing views of Lake Wakatipu. Lots of locals live here. Walks, mountain hikes or mtb rides can be started from the door. 800m away, there is a small convenience store, fish & chip shop and a restaurant (V Know). Note that although it is super safe & mostly quiet here, this neighbourhood is densely populated, so there may be noise associated with that! Note that this area is hilly, so any excursion by foot will involve an inevitable climb. From my place walking to Queenstown takes about 40 mins over quite a big hill on the main road and 50 mins down the hill along the lake. Both routes take in stunning views. Getting AroundA car is recommended in this location as it 3.5km from Queenstown centre and a hilly area. Note that Connectabus prices change often and services are not very reliable. From my nearest and infrequently serviced stop (30m away), there are 3 early morning buses that go to Queenstown. From Queenstown, there are 3 afternoon buses that go to the stop near my house. SO if you have no car and bags and can catch those buses its not so bad. $5.50 one way to Queenstown There is a bus stop 600m UP the hill from my place that has buses every 30 minutes, but only the hardened traveller would want to drag their bags up there! From the airport by bus: #11 bus into Queenstown then the #9 bus to Fernhill. Fare is $13 and let the driver know you are going to the airport as you'll need a transfer ticket. 600m downhill walk to my place depending on which bus you get. A taxi to my place from Queenstown town centre is $19 A door to door super shuttle from the airport to my place is $26 If you have booked onto tours and don't have a car, some of the main operators will pickup from a hotel 900m walk UP the hill. Other Things to NoteThe Arawata bridle track is 5 minutes away and has amazing views of the Lake and surrounding mountains. You will immediately be immersed in native bush and rewarded with great views whilst listening to bellbirds and tuis (1.5hr return) Sunshine Bay Beach is 10 mins walk away and if the weather is really hot, you can test your mettle in the ice cold waters of Lake Wakatipu as the lake stays at around 10C all year around! From the beach, the lovely Sunshine Bay walk will take you most of the way to Queenstown or can be done as a 5km return track (45mins). If hiking up mountains is your thing, access to the Ben Lomond forest is a 20 minute walk up the road with a few options to choose from with the 6-8hr Ben Lomond hike having the best views.

Interaction with GuestsWe live next door and are locals so happy to give you any advice or tips before or during your trip. If you are out and it's cold, we are happy to light your fire so it's lovely and warm for when you get home. We are also happy to just leave you to it if you want and offer complete privacy - whatever your preference is! The NeighborhoodIt is a short 3 min drive to town, or 20min walk through a track beside the house. The neighbourhood is nice and quiet so you will have a lovely night sleep, but is very handy to town for all its bars and restaurants. The best of both worlds! 3 mins walk away there is a dairy, fish and chip shop (with the best fish and chips in town) and VKnow - the #6 best restaurant in Queenstown on Tripadvisor. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop at the end of the road with regular buses into town. There is on site parking for one car. We are 10kms from the airport, or approximately a 15min drive. There are plenty of car hire operators either at the airport or in town, as well a public Connectabus from the airport to town. If you are coming for the skiing/snowboarding, we are approx. 20mins to the Remarkables ski field turn off, or are approx. 15mins to the Coronet ski field turn off. Cardrona is about 40mins to the ski field turn off on the way to Wanaka. Other Things to NoteThe unit will be equipped with the amenities to enjoy your breakfast and lunch in house, and then you can take advantage of the many fantastic restaurants in town in the evening.

I like to respect privacy but we're also happy when guests choose to enjoy an afternoon chat while admiring the view. The NeighborhoodIt's peaceful, quiet and relaxing, like being in the forest. There is a small study for you to work from if you can draw yourself away from the views. After winding down the staircase the second bedroom has a queen bed and the third has two king single beds. The lounge/dining area has seating and a dining table for four. Down the corridor are two comfortable queen bedrooms (both with wall mounted heat panels), a modern bathroom, toilet and laundry. The apartment is fully equipped with linen, towels and bedding. There is a bus stop just down the road, if you decide not to walk to town. Ski buses also pick up and drop off here in the ski season. A taxi ride to town is only about $12. Bar and restaurant facilities are available at nearby hotels, along with a take-away, dairy and restaurant, if you chose to stay close to home. We are also aiming to be as eco friendly as we possibly can be. All our cleaning is done using only chemical free products.Some of our properties use wetbacks on the fires meaning that we use less power for heating and hotwater. And our newer properties have solar panels and wood pellet fires, resulting more self sufficiency and lower emissions. Even our hair products that we supply to our guests are NZ made, sulphate free, not tested on animals and palm oil free!!! Top class fashion, jewellery, souvenirs and art works can all be found in town. ACTIVITIES. With Coronet Peak a half hour drive and The Remarkables around 45 minutes, the ski fields are at your fingertips. Don’t feel like driving to the slopes, grab a bus from in town. WHAT TO DO. Jet boating, Para-gliding, Skydiving, Bungy Jumping, Hot air ballooning, tramping tours, Luging and 4WD trips are all bound to get your heart pumping. LESS ADVENTUROUS. You can take a coach to Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, The Glow Worm caves in Te Anau and any number of other locations. Play around of golf or two at Arrowtown, Frankton or Kelvin Heights golf courses. Queenstown also has an Aquatic Centre so don’t forget your swimmers. Arrowtown is a delightful goldmining town about a half hour drive away. Take a walk through the old gold miners area and learn about the heritage of this lovely town. Take a walk along the streets where you will find top class restaurants, delightful cafes and shops that cater for your every whim. Don’t forget to try a pie from the Arrowtown Bakery. Yummy! A bus service runs regularly throughout the area and the closest stop is at the Mercure Hotel, about a 5 minute walk. Alternatively, it would take 20 - 25 minutes to walk into town.
