The SpaceDar Drissi is a traditional house in the ancient Fez Medina. The house is at least 250 years old. It has been extensively restored using traditional crafts to complement its original features, most of which survive intact. It has been converted into a charming guest house with four bedrooms, each with modern en-suite facilities discreetly installed to preserve its original ambience. The house is in the heart of the Medina, close to shops, restaurants and sight-seeing locations. There is a courtyard and a large roof terrace with sheltered seating and views over the Medina and of the Atlas Mountains beyond. Breakfasts are served between 8 and 10am. You are usually asked when you arrive what time suits you best. There is plenty to eat and drink - typically: Coffee or tea, fresh squeezed orange juice, French and Moroccan breads, butter, soft cheese, jam, yogurt; an egg and/or cereal if you would like them. This double room is called the Terrace Room. It contains a double bed and has an en suite bathroom attached. Other rooms are separately listed on this site. The rental price includes breakfast, clean towels and bed linen and daily room cleaning. TVA (VAT) is included. There is an additional local tourist tax of 23 Moroccan Dirhams (approximately £1.75 / €2) per person per night that will be levied. Our friendly staff will look after you from your arrival in Fez to your eventual departure. We will assist you with all matters to maximise the enjoyment of your stay with us. We also offer 3-course traditional home-cooked Moroccan evening meals for 220 MAD (approx £16) per person. (We require 24 hours notice). Guest AccessFree Wifi is provided. (Ask the manager for the security key). The courtyard and roof terrace are available throughout the day and evening. You may use the house kitchen during the day to prepare your own food and beverages if you so choose. On your departure day, after checking out of your room you can leave your bags in the house (at your own risk) until your departure later in the day. (There is also a toilet off the courtyard that is available). Interaction with GuestsOur manager Kibir always meets and greets you on arrival, answers all questions and can assist with guides, restaurants etc. He serves breakfast and will ensure that you are fully briefed and happy to venture out into the Medina and beyond. He will even give you his cell phone number in case of emergencies. The NeighborhoodThere is a sense of going back into history as soon as you enter the medina. It has been a thriving city since the late 10th century and its walls are fully intact. This limits its ability to modernise and so provides a fascinating insight into an almost medieval society ..... if you ignore the mobile phones and satellite dishes! There are very few roads and most goods are transported on the backs of donkeys and mules and in hand carts. The shopping streets and 'souks' sell mostly locally produced wares. Many traditional crafts flourish still and you can see the craftsmanship in progress all around the medina. The ancient tannery is a sight not to be missed! Beyond the medina there are other attractions: the new city of Fes is Close by. It has refreshingly wide streets, some wonderful fountains and well tended flower borders and can offer a more cosmopolitan range of cuisine than is available in the medina. Day excursions are easy to arrange. For example the nearby city of Meknes or the Roman ruins of Volubilis. Getting AroundWithin the Medina the only method of transport is to walk. It is hilly in places so can be tiring if you are not fit. Outside the medina the local red 'petit' taxis are the best means of travel. They are cheap and plentiful - if you can beat the locals to the door handle! The much larger 'grand' taxis can transport you further afield. We can arrange transfers and excursions. Other Things to NoteA local tax of 23 dirhams (approx. £1.75 / €2) will be additionally charged for each guest per night - except under 12s.

Ground floor (all rooms open onto the patio) : - 2 large bedrooms with double beds, en-suite bathrooms (shower) - A large living room - The kitchen Second floor: - A large room with two single beds, a bathroom with shower, and a mezzanine lounge (seats) on which additional beds can be installed (2 to 4) - A library with office space for reading and working with computer and Internet access. Dar 7 Louyat is located near Seffarine Square where coppersmiths can be seen hammering their wares into shape, and close to the Al Quaraouiyine mosque, from which the call of the muezzin beats the rythm of the day. The famous University of al-Quaraouiyine (or Karaouine mosque) isrecognized by the UNESCO as the world's oldest university. As Titus Burckhardt put it in his books, you can still feel the peculiar atmosphere of spirituality and scholarship of that place. Just outside the house, you can drown yourself among all types of crafts. You will even meet some craftsmen who are the last ones to know their specific skills. Such are the horn combs maker or the cedar wood buckets maker. Going for a quiet and watchful walk will take you centuries back at the time of real handmade crafts. A week is not enough to discover all the riches of the medina, of the new town of Fez and of the surroundings such as Meknes, Volubilis, Moulay Idriss, Moulay Yacoub, and the great variety of trekking that can be organized in the Middle-Atlas (one hour's drive from Fez). The SpaceDar Namir is a cooking school with rooms. It has been specifically designed around the convivial art of cooking and eating, with peaceful bedrooms and plenty of space for chilling out in. Guest AccessTwo kitchens, a courtyard dining room, two modern bathrooms, a TV lounge well stocked with plenty of films. Interaction with GuestsI'm happy to provide tips on places to eat, drink and hang out in Fès. Rachida comes in every morning at 10am (for 3 hours) to spruce the place up, make breakfast (included in the price) and feed the cat. The NeighborhoodLocated just 5 minutes from the nearest taxi rank (ask for the Cinema Amal, r'Cif) makes this a very convenient property in terms of getting around. , It's also 5 minutes to R'Cif fresh produce market - one of the best in the city - and some of its most iconic sights like the Karaouine mosque and recently opened library, the tanneries and leather shops, the copper beaters souk and lantern shops and the henna souk for traditional beauty products and pottery. Getting AroundPetit taxis are within 5 minutes walk. I'm happy to book airport transfers, guides to the Fez medina (please give plenty of notice as the good guides get booked up) and arrange for day trips for you with a private driver. Rates start at 1500 dhs for the day depending on where you go. Unfortunately I am not able to provide services such as porters to walk you from A to B within the medina. Other Things to NoteWiFi is included, but since this is one of the oldest medina's in the world you may find it is not reliable all of the time. Please don't stress too much. This is your time to relax. Bluetooth speakers are positioned in the centre of the house for playing your own music. Search BeatsPillXL to play from your own device. The cat (Tiger) manages any unwanted visitors (a reality of life in the Fez medina). The house is cleaned every day, but if you are very allergic to cats Dar Namir may not be for you. IMPORTANT Renting a traditional house in the Fez medina isn't for everyone. If you want someone to guide you around, or to be available 24/7, you would probably be happier in a guest house or hotel. If, however, you are adventurous, independent and confident about learning to find your way around, you'll find life in a traditional medina house a hugely rewarding experience.

This single room is called the Merinid Room. It contains a double bed and has an en suite bathroom attached. It is the smallest and cheapest of our five rooms and has limited storage space for your bags and clothes. Other, larger rooms are separately listed on this site. Interaction with GuestsOur manager Kibir always meets and greets you on arrival, answers all your questions and can assist with guides, restaurants etc. As well as his native tongue, he speaks French, English and a little Italian and Spanish. The ancient tannery is an experience not to be missed!

As Titus Burckhardt put it in his books, you can still feel the peculiar atmosphere of spirituality and scholarship of that place.
