Tucked amid towering fir and pine trees on the banks of the McKenzie River, this family-owned bed and breakfast has welcomed guests since the late 1970s. Hiking trails weave through the secluded 3-acre patch of wilderness. Hammocks are slung between trees, and waterfront fire pits host marshmallow roasts. • Homemade breakfast: Salmon omelets, Southern-style eggs Benedict, and fresh fruit plucked from the family's orchard are among the tasty morsels. • Fly-fishing: Cast out for rainbow trout and chinook salmon on the McKenzie River; a half-day guided fishing trip is included in select options. • Private cabins and rustic rooms may feature wooden rocking chairs, crackling fireplaces, and jacuzzi tubs. • Special events: The inn hosts murder-mystery shows and wine tastings on occasion. Check the website for the latest events. • Willamette National Forest: just a scenic drive from the inn Travelers come to Vida—a little town set on the banks of the McKenzie River—to take in the breathtaking wilderness of western Oregon. Vida sits near the western edge of the Willamette National Forest, more than 1 million acres of unspoiled territory. Here, dense patches of western hemlock and douglas fir give way to seven of Oregon's loftiest mountain peaks. Navigate the trails on foot, horse, or mountain bike for close-up views of ospreys, elk, bald eagles, river otters, wolverines and other wildlife. rates are from $98 to $185 on weekends plus tax, midweek rates from $79 to $165 plus tax and based on double occupancy.

The SpaceThe shared living spaces open and light. You will find a variety of wood building materials throughout the house- some new, some salvaged from the original cabin. You can fish from the lower covered porch (with licenses) - the drift boats seem to have success just up river and down river of the cabin. Reservoir recreation areas and hot springs are approx. 20 minute drive east. Extensive hiking and mountain biking and winter sports are within 30-60 minute drive. You are welcome to sleep out on the deck or on the covered porch or put tents in the covered porch area under the house if that is your preferred way to enjoy the river in the summer. Feel good about renting this space: - a significant portion of your rental fee goes directly to support community based youth development work in the Pacific Northwest and environmental/health/education work internationally on occasion. The projects supported through this funding are focused on solutions that are sustainable and equitable. Guest AccessThe full house, under the house and the up river side yard space. The down river side yard is undergoing environmental restoration. Interaction with GuestsI will not be available during your stay. There are care takers a few cabins down that will make sure everything is set up for you. Getting AroundThere is a bus that runs from Eugene/Springfield to McKenzie Bridge. This cabin is roughly in the middle of the that route. There is a bus stop very close to the house. Grocery stores: Springfield is your last major stop for groceries and gas. Walterville does have a small grocery store and the Vida Store west of the cabin, Rainbow store east of the cabin do well given that they are robust rural mini-marts. Other Things to NoteThis cabin is right on the river and right on the highway. There are 3 parking spots that pull straight off the highway. Kids should be supervised when close to the river or on the highway side of the house. At this time not all cell providers get reception on large parts of the McKenzie Hwy. Verizon and Sprint seem to get service. T-Mobile does not. Currently there is no wifi at the cabin. Access to groceries and gas are limited. Make sure and stock up in Springfield if coming from the West. Sisters/Bend if coming from the East. The Vida store to the West of the cabin, Rainbow store to the East will take care of the basics plus a little extra if needed. You are on the river, so there are bugs. Don't be surprised to come across some at some point on your stay - there is bug killer (I hate to use it, but...) under the kitchen sink if there is a nest that is in a really bad place for humans and the house. There are a few citronella candles and a small fan that can be used to keep the little ones away from you on the deck at night if needed.

There is a 4 acre meadow across the street that is available for your enjoyment. Terwilliger Hot Springs (Also known as Cougar Hot Springs) is one of those places that you hate to tell others about. You like it so much that you want to keep it a secret from the rest of the world. Simply put, this is a magical spot hidden within this super-natural forest. (I say supernatural not because it is un-natural, but it is the pinnacle of what we would imagine a pristine forest to be. It is that lush forest that we might see on an exotic movie set. Terwilliger Hot Springs are a fantastic place to soak away anxiety and stress that you may have brought with you from the city. It is also a great place to relax after a long hike, mountain bike ride or a day of skiing at Hoodoo. The hot springs emerge from a small cave (you can climb into it) and flows out into 5 cascading pools. As the water flows down into the lower pools the temperature gets a little cooler. Hours: Open year round from dawn to dusk. Directions: As you pass the reservoir on your left take a moment to enjoy the sweeping views. You should see a small shack/kiosk on the right and a parking area on the left. Terwilliger Hot Springs is about 15 minutes from the cottage. Park in the lot and walk on the path to the kiosk. There is a $6 per person day use fee. Pay the fee at the kiosk. There is usually an attendant there, if not pay anyway. (The fees help maintain the hot springs and the fines for not paying are steep.) You’ll continue to walk through the forest for about a 1/4 mile. (No worries – the path is well worn and easy to follow.) Day Use Fee: $6 per person cash or check. Other Hot Springs *For nice hot springs experience without fear of encountering naked people visit Belknap Hot Springs. It is not far away, it is further east up Hwy 126 between McKenzie Bridge and the Ranger Station. Day use fee $10-15. Hot springs are piped into a swimming pool. Indoor changing rooms. HooDoo Ski Bowl: Great family friendly ski area features a new lodge, groomed trails and lift tickets under $50 Hoodoo Ski Area sits on the summit of Oregon’s Santiam Pass and is Oregon’s most centrally located destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Just 45 minutes from the cottage, Hoodoo Ski Area offers more than 800 acres of terrain, 34 runs, five lifts and one of the largest tubing parks in the West. Founded in 1938, Hoodoo is Central Oregon’s original ski area and your destination for family-friendly fun in your backyard! The ski slopes are on a big, rounded butte, with lots of wide open terrain. So whether you prefer the deep and challenging powder of Hoodoo’s backside or the finely groomed runs of the front side, the majesty of Hoodoo’s location and fun of Hoodoo’s night skiing will bring you back again and again. McKenzie River Waterfall Loop Trail Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls in one awesome hiking experience. Length: 3 miles Elevation: Trail is at 2800 ft. elevation. Season: Spring to Fall Usage: Heavy Difficulty: Moderate Water: Potable water available at Ice Cap Campground. How to get there: From the cottage take Highway 126 east approximately 32 miles to the parking areas of Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls Viewpoints. Trail Description: This trail is part of the McKenzie River National Recreation Trail. It follows the McKenzie River as it flows over two spectacular waterfalls and cascades into whitewater. Other Area Waterfalls A vast number of rivers and streams are birthed from the depths of central Oregon’s majestic Cascade Mountains. These many rivers create a dazzling display of water features throughout this chain of volcanic mountains. These water features often are displayed as spectacular waterfalls. Koosah Falls / Sahalie Falls Tamolitch Falls (aka Tamolitch Blue Pool) Proxy Falls Rainbow Falls Tamolitch Falls-Tamolitch Blue Pool Once a majestic waterfall, the McKenzie River has changed course and gone underground a few miles up stream. The river only flows over the falls a few times a year, the rest if the time the water emerges from the rocks underwater in the basin of waterfall pool. Tamolitch Blue Pool - Tamolitch FallsThis is a unique site. While it is rare to see a large waterfall ledge completely dry, the color and composition of the pool is also unique. One of the first things you’ll notice is the color of the water. The topaz blue color of the water is almost iridescent – like a blue anti-freeze. The water is so clear that is seems to be only about 5 ft deep – yet closer inspection will reveal that in many spots its over 30 ft deep. So pure in fact that you’d swear the water wasn’t moving – yet at the end of this glass like pond – a volume of water rushes out as the McKenzie River is reborn. I did this hike for the first time last summer. The photos you see are real. The water is the most amazing color. The waterfall ledge is a favorite for jumping on a hot summer day. (The water is cold and be very careful to check the area for safety first). You can hike over the waterfall ledge and find a trail that leads you down to the side of the pool. This unique place is part of Oregon’s famous McKenzie River Trail. It is on the top half of the trail about 2 miles from the halfway point on the trail. The trail goes right by this interesting feature and is a popular place for hikers and mountain bikers to stop and rest while taking in this unique site. For the golf enthusiast Tokatee Golf Club is nestled in the beautiful McKenzie River Valley with glistening views of the Three Sisters Mountains just a short 10 mile drive east.

Getting AroundLane Transit District has a bus route that runs from Eugene to McKenzie Bridge Ranger Station and back 4 times on weekdays, twice on weekends per day. The Bus stop is about a 1/2 mi. away. Other Things to NoteWe have a 2 night minimum year around.

Blue Heaven Cabin is located in Vida, Oregon. The cottage is picturesquely nestled along the shore of the McKenzie River, and is decorated in a rustic yet elegant style. The cottage was built in the early 1940’s, and has a grace and charm reminiscent of a more gentle era. While we have maintained the rustic touches of that time, we have also incorporated some modern conveniences. Cozy Accommodations The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen, charcoal grill, fireplace in the living room, full bathroom (including tub and shower) and central heat. Beautifully refinished original fir floors. It features windows on the entire river side-affording an unparalleled view of the white water below. French doors open from the living room onto a spacious private deck directly over the water. We invite you to relax and refresh in the cool, green Willamette National Forest-and even throw in your fishing line. If you keep a sharp eye out, you may even see Osprey and Eagles. The one bedroom can sleep up to 6 people comfortably, with a king bed in the bedroom, a queen sleeper sofa in the great room, a queen raised air bed and a twin fold out bed. We include most everything to make your stay convenient and enjoyable—from dishes to linens and towels. All you will need to bring is your clothes, food, and yourselves... but don't forget to pack your fishing tackle! Keywords: Cottage, cabin
