However, we provide you with a list of "handy people," who are also our friends, should you need their help immediately. The NeighborhoodHoopers Island is located in Fishing Creek, MD. Although we are surrounded by water, there is NO typical beach experience. Swimming in the bay is NOT for everyone, although many do cool off using our floats. The waterways are ideally enjoyed by paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skis, etc. It is a "watermen" community. Seemingly a sleepy little fishing village, Hoopers Island has become a "best kept secret" for those who desire a beautiful place to kayak, bike, crab, fish, enjoy nature and the waterways. Many "weekenders" live here among the locals, quite peacefully. There is one highly acclaimed seafood restaurant and one general store that also has fuel...there are a couple of charter boat companies, for tours or fishing. That is about it! However, in nearby Cambridge there are more restaurants, shops and cultural attractions. ABOUT HOOPERS ISLAND FROM, "TOUR DORCHESTER COUNTY" Hoopers Island is actually comprised of three islands with authentic working watermen villages. Some properties have the earliest land grants in Dorchester County, issued in 1659, approximately 10 years before the County was established. The main island was allegedly bought from the Indians in exchange for blankets. The Hooper Island Lighthouse is one of only five lights constructed in the Bay during the 1900's. The Hooper Island Lighthouse is located in approximately 18' of water, approximately three miles west of Hooperville, Upper Hooper Island. Hooper Island Lighthouse is the only cast-iron caisson lighthouse in Maryland with a watch room and lantern surmounted on the tower. Wikipedia Fun Facts: Upper Hoopers Island, Middle Hoopers Island and Lower Hoopers Island are surrounded by water with the Chesapeake Bay on one side and the Honga River on the other side. This beautiful yet remote set of islands is full of a variety of wildlife and is well known for sport fishing and crabbing industries. During the 18th century piracy was rampant in the Chesapeake Bay. Boats, filled with supplies, heading towards the top of the Bay, were attacked by pirates who had been hiding in the many tributaries. Lord Dunmore, one of the more infamous pirates, created such mayhem that Henry Hooper, IV, in 1780, asked the Governor of Maryland for assistance to stop the plundering. Today, most people who live on Hoopers Island have some connection to the fishing industry. The local families make a living as crabbers, oyster tongers and seafood packers. Getting AroundGETTING HERE: Located in Fishing Creek, MD, Hoopers Island is less than 3 hours from Philadelphia or Baltimore. Hooper's Island is 25 minutes from Cambridge and 40 minutes from Easton, where you will find restaurants, shops, antiquing and grocery stores. On your way to Hoopers, stop in at Emily's Produce, which has the best fresh produce, homemade jams, sauces, local cheeses and more. Continue to drive through "scenic byways" passing the Blackwater Refuge, where you may spot a Bald Eagle, herons, sika deer, or perhaps a red fox. As you drive through the back roads, you will feel as though you are beginning to shed all of the stress and worries from your "normal" lives. It still happens to me every time! Other Things to NoteDorchester County Lodging Tax of 5% is included on this rate, as Airbnb is not able to collect tax through their system. 3rd person requires and extra $50 fee per stay. Stays during Events/Holidays are an additional $75 per stay. An REFUNDABLE trash removal fee of $25 is charged, if you choose not to remove trash yourself. Hoopers Island Residents do not receive free trash removal. Let us know when booking whether you will choose this option.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT AT HOOPERS ISLAND BAYSIDE HAVEN? As we strive for the Bayside Haven to be a truly "get away from it all" location, we do NOT provide internet access nor cable TV. We do have plenty of DVDs and local & network TV stations. We have central AC, a ceiling fan, along with window shades (which you WILL need as we get a lot of wonderful sunshine all year long). Eight windows for catching the breezes, which are plentiful. If you want to stay connected, you must bring your smart phone and/or patronize either the Hoopers Island General Store (formerly Island Pride) or Old Salty's to use their internet. But really...traveling out here encourages you to unplug for a little while, enjoy the scenery, the wildlife and the simplicity...the sunsets are amazing, you may notice others pulling out their chairs around "sunset" time up and down the bay, as they all admire the wondrous views, the ships going by, and the fabulous birds flying by or swimming in the water . We often have our neighbors over and enjoy it together. Old Salty's is our local (within walking distance) seafood restaurant, where you can meet the locals and the folks that drive from all parts of the Eastern Shore to eat here. We have crisp cool 400 count 100% Cotton linens, organic and/or made in the USA when we can find them. We use steam to clean soft surfaces (pillows, mattresses, cushions, etc.) between guests, to keep down the allergens and just to offer you a comfortable stay. All bedding are encased in bug proof, allergen free materials. We are picky about where we stay, and apply these standards to our vacation rentals as well. Sorry, we do not allow pets of any kind. If we are in residence on the first floor, we offer Complimentary Happy Hours for our guests. (we have a separate entrance and separate outdoor deck, to stay out of your way) Although we are surrounded by water, there is NO typical beach experience. Swimming in the bay is NOT for everyone, although many do cool off using our floats. The waterways are ideally enjoyed by paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skis, etc. You can rent kayaks/canoes/bikes or go on a charter fishing boat tour, or just a scenic tour, right on the island. The land is flat, perfect for biking or going for a long walk from bridge to bridge. We will send you a list of outfitters when you book. NO SMOKING/NO PETS for the comfort of our guests and ourselves. TRASH REMOVAL not provided as we are in a rural area, you can choose to either pay $25 for removal or bring it with you when you leave. 4br Cottage
Another great property from Eastern Shore Vacation Rentals! A world away from it all - Hoopers' Island is actually comprised of three islands with authentic working watermen villages. The main island was allegedly bought from the Indians in exchange for blankets, what a deal huh? No bartering for anything needed once you arrive, Bay Water Cottage is wonderfully appointed and breathes with beautiful contemporary and organic architecture. We love the shade trees, the huge water views, the individual bedroom balconies, the deck and private dock – fab for fishing and crabbing. If you like to paddle – check it out – 3 kayaks and a canoe provided for guests. Look closely at the exterior photos and you will get a glimpse of your own island/sand bar on which to relax. Envision paddling a picnic lunch, cooler and blanket over to your sand bar and spending the day swimming and soaking in the sun. Paddle back should your refreshments dwindle. At day’s end store your boats and relax dockside drinking in the sunset views, grabbing a game of ping pong and grilling out. Exploring the Blackwater Refuge or the Harriet Tubman trail are at your doorstep but you may want to simply paddle the day away outside your backdoor.
