GERTRUDE STREET FITZROY - with its multitude of cafes, bars, pubs, boutiques, restaurants & art galleries you never need to leave Fitzroy!
But if for some reason you decide to, the city is a short, pretty stroll away or just jump on a tram at the end of our road and you're there in no time. Carlton is just on the other side of one park, Richmond on the other side of another park, so you can walk to the MCG, Rod Laver Arena, etc.
I have 2 rooms available (the other listing is 'Stunning Fitzroy own level+ensuite' listing #72576).
This listing is for one bedroom on the ground floor of my large 3 level home just off the wonderful Gertrude Street.
This is an excellent spot for guests in Melbourne for a short time who want to live like a local. Or for those lucky folk who are moving to Melbourne (nice choice!) it's a great landing pad while you look for something permanent.
Located in between action-packed Brunswick and Smith Streets, this is a fantastic, diverse area full of great cafes, restaurants, wonderful local pubs, art galleries, parks, live music venues, decent architecture and the Melbourne Museum. The beloved #86 tram (our 'tramily') and #12 are just at the end of the road.
All only minutes walk away are:

PUBS - The Napier, The Union, Workers Club, Builders Arms, The Gertrude, Grace Darling etc...

the list goes on ... and on....and on...
The house has all the mod cons mixed in with vintage collectables. And rare in Melbourne in that it is very light and bright.
Guests are welcome to help themselves to the kitchen on Level 2 which has organic breads & from our local Fatto A Mano organic bakery. If you want to cook there are some basics in the cupboard above the oven and herbs in the garden to get you started and plenty of cupboard & fridge space.
Breakfast - help yourself to the organic breads, spreads, juice, bonsoy & fair-trade teas and coffee. The kitchen lights are tucked between the linen cupboard and the kitchen wall, on the dining room side.
As I Airbnb a room on the top floor of the house too so you might see me, or other guests, in the kitchen or elsewhere on Level 2. But no-one comes to Melbourne to "cook and watch TV" so it's likely you might not see any of us at all (but you are welcome to cook and watch tv!).
Your room has a super comfy queen bed, desk (wifi is throughout the house) and dvd player (there is no aerial in your room so it's not a telly but please help yourself to the hundreds of movies upstairs). You have your own private toilet next to your room and you & I share the bathroom down the hallway as my rooms are also on the ground floor.
*Please note that the queen bed is against the wall on one side***.
There is organic shampoo/conditioner/body wash in the bathrooms, please help yourself. And an excellent hairdryer, hot rollers etc.
FROM THE AIRPORT - I recommend "StarBus Airport Shuttle" - door to door service from 5am till 7pm, 7 days. Cut and paste StarBus Airport Shuttle into your search engine for more info. Or a taxi for approx $60 is the fastest.
Fitzroy is a wonderful, diverse, energetic area. Needless to say, I love it here, I'm sure you will too!
Smoking: strictly outside on the dining room balcony only please, with the doors closed :)
Children: not suited sorry Guest AccessLevel 1 - your room, your own toilet, laundry, share bathroom, front door access
Level 2 - shared dining room, lounge, kitchen & 2 large balconies
(Level 3 is the other guest area of bedroom, bathroom, wee balcony & study) Interaction with GuestsThis is a very independent set up. Apart from our rooms on level 1 there is another guest room on level 3. As we are all usually out and about enjoying Melbourne it can be rare we run into each other but I'm always contactable on my phone :) The NeighborhoodMelbourne's smallest urban area, Fitzroy, is a real treasure of old and new, working class and gentrification, historic preservation and modern architecture. Right next to the city with the Fitzroy and Carlton gardens in between, it's never boring but very relaxed. If on the odd occasion it's a bit noisy there are ear plugs in your desk :)
Diversity, cafes, boutiques, galleries, pubs, parks, restaurants, cocktail bars, music, street art = good vibes. Getting AroundThere is so much to offer in Fitzroy you could spend most of your time getting around on foot. I've left a local guide and map in your room and marked a square around the main Fitzroy Streets as a start.
The 86 or 112 trams go straight into the city in about 10 minutes.
Hire a bike from Little Creatures or one of the blue Melbourne Bike Share stations.
Taxi or Uber
Or if you have a car my Visitor's Parking Permit might be available - first in first served! Other Things to NoteIt's a good idea to check Melbourne's weather report before you arrive, we really can have "all seasons in 1 day" so it's wise to bring something warm even for those summer nights. I recommend the app 'Weatherzone'.
Help yourself to the umbrellas at the bottom of the stairs!
