The SpaceLike all of our rooms, the Mary room has a full closet, a stocked bookshelf, TV and Wi-Fi, as well as breakfast included with your stay.
Our 1882 Victorian farmhouse is completely restored, with a blend of modern conveniences and historical charm. In addition to the 4 guest rooms, we have a spacious parlor/sitting room, a dining room, and a large open kitchen. Outside there is a pool, wrap-around decks and a patio, as well as three covered porches, and up above there's a large balcony overlooking the yard, pasture, and pond.
We're located about 50 miles south of Kansas City, near Fontana, Kansas. So it's convenient to the KC metro area, but located in a rural setting, on a hill with great views and with no visible neighbors.
Our goal is to be a self-sustaining place for vacationers who are looking to spend some time in a rural agrarian experience. It's like "farm to table" but better--the table is right on the farm.
We're a real working farm--we keep a few steer, about forty chickens (along with guinea fowl, a turkey, and a few ducks), a livestock guardian dog, and a cute but totally useless house dog. Guest AccessNetherfield Natural Farm offers a guest pantry and refrigerator, loads of books, a piano, and cards & games. In the barn we have a three-season bar/game area. Outdoors we have an in-ground pool, an outdoor fireplace, hammocks, a pond with a dock and fishing gear available, walking trails, and a picnic area with a fire pit.
If you're interested in booking the whole house for an event, such as a family reunion, we can arrange the large open spaces for group seating, and can open the kitchen for your use. Interaction with GuestsWe are in the house with you and will have breakfast with you. We're happy to show you around the farm and share with you what we do here. You're welcome to spend as much or as little time with us as you like. The NeighborhoodSome of the nearby towns are Paola, Osawatomie, Hillsdale, Mound City, Lynn Valley Lakes, and LaCygne. They all have a rich history as well as offering camping, hiking, water sports, horseback riding, golfing, shopping, and just relaxing. You can enjoy local museums (including the John Brown Museum in Osawatomie), top-notch KC barbecue, town squares, antique shops, and county fairs. And it's an easy trip to the Kansas City metro area or to historic Fort Scott. Getting AroundWe are in a rural, farmland setting. You'll probably need a car, but there is plenty of parking here.
