The NeighborhoodFootscray is a very multi-cultural area, with a large African and Asian community and a thriving artist and student population. However, like many hip suburbs in Melbourne (St Kilda, Brunswick, Fitzroy, Collingwood), Footscray has working class roots. I like it because it's diverse, convenient, close to the city centre (6kms) with great transport links (4 train lines). However, it might not suit everyone, please do some research about the area to make sure this is suitable for you. Getting AroundPublic transport is convenient, Footscray train station is about a 4 minute walk away and from there it’s a 15 minute train ride to Melbourne CBD. Footscray station is served by multiple train lines Werribee, Williamstown, Sunbury, Watergarden, Laverton which means getting to the CBD is easy as you never have to wait too long for a train. The bus stop for Route 220 is directly in front of the apartment and will take you into the city in about 15 - 20 minutes. Access from Tullamarine Airpot From Tullamarine Airport, it is about a $55 - $65 taxi ride and take around 30 mins (if your arrival is out of peak hours, ask the taxi driver not to take the toll) Otherwise, you can catch the Skybus ($19 per person, per way), the bus ride is about 40 mins to Southern Cross Station. From Southern Cross Station, get on the Werribee, Williamstown, Sunbury, Watergarden or Laverton line and stop at Footscray Station. It is about a 15 min train ride to Footscray (Myki card $6, 2 hour Myki fare $3.7 ) and from Footscray train station, it is about a 4 minute walk to my place. All up if you take the Bus and Train route, it's about 1.5 hours and $35 per person. Other Things to NoteDISCOUNTS - The room has daily, weekly, monthly and couple pricing, if you input your dates and number of guests, Airbnb will calculate the correct price for you. Please do not inquire about discounts, it will be automatically declined. This listing is a clean, comfortable and I think beautiful apartment. Perfect for young, independent travellers, who are conscious of how to be respectful in a shared space. If you are looking for a hotel experience, where everything is immaculate this is not the right listing for you. It is not suitable for children, infants, or single male travellers over the age of 40. I have another listing if you prefer a bigger room https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/4106918

The SpaceWelcome to the West!! Just a short train or car ride from the city is this huge, bright two bedroom townhouse with fabulous terrace just waiting for someone to enjoy! Behind the red front door is a large living area and full kitchen with small outdoor area. Up the spiral staircase to a very large master bedroom, bathroom with laundry (including washing machine), separate toilet and smaller second bedroom with two single beds, leading to a wonderful north facing terrace. Just imagine a balmy evening(URL HIDDEN)in your hand, prawns on the barbie provided and listening to your favourite tunes. Plenty of room to while away the hours reading a book or sunbaking on the banana lounge, it doesn't get much better than this. Oh and we've recently installed air conditioning and heating upstairs and there's also a gas heater downstairs so you'll be warm in winter and coooollll in summer!! When you do decide to venture out there's a fantastic choice of coffee shops right on your doorstep and an array of cuisines including African, Japanese, Vietnamese and Indian thanks to the multi ethnic community in the west. Or if you'd rather cook at home and eat your dinner by candlelight on the terrace than you can shop locally at the wonderful gourmet supermarket but you must also visit nearby Footscray Market and Little Saigon for not only fresh fruit and veggies as well as meat and seafood but a wonderful ambience that will transport you straight to Vietnam (with out the jetlag) and there's a bus right out front that will take you straight there. Everything is right on your doorstep from supermarkets to cafes, to parks and quirky, interesting shops and only 5 mins walk to Seddon station and 10 mins to the city by train. Interaction with Guestsi will meet and greet guests on arrival and be contactable during the stay if needs be. i also live close by the property. The NeighborhoodSeddon is a great place and growing by the minute but is still quiet and retains its village like atmosphere. There's great cafes and fantastic coffee,a gourmet supermarket, wine shop and a variety of restaurants from African (my favourite!) to Malaysian and Italian, and all within walking distance to the property. Just down the road is Footscray,a predominately Vietnamese community with a bit of African too,so wonderful food choices everywhere, including the Footscray Market with its fresh fruit and veg, meat and seafood. Seddon also has an eclectic mix of shops ranging from gifts shops like Sedonia to vintage shops like my very own "Once More With Feeling" at the front of the property on Charles St. So you must drop in and say hi when you stay! Its a great friendly neighbourhood that you will fall in love with and not far from the city either or major attractions like Flemington Racecourse and Etihad stadium. Leave your car and take public transport or an Uber, it's that easy. Getting AroundJust a short walk from the property is Seddon train station, and a ten minute journey to the city. The SpaceWe are a local and international household, smoke and drug-free apart from the occasional beer/wine. We have a large veggie patch in the backyard and some bee hives. The house is shared with 3 other professionals and mature travellers in a 4 bedroom house. Also sharing with over 10 bicycles and one or two bike nuts. This is a huge room (3.6m by 3.3m or 11'10" by 10'10") and provided fully furnished with queen size bed, desk, chair and shelves. It is a private room inside a house with shared common areas in the lounge room, kitchen and bathroom. Guests are provided bedding, linen, towel, and soap. Our wooden building is old (not at all modern) and it is a typical Melbourne house. Expect to see a spider web in the corner, maybe a mosquito at dusk, it has cracks in the wall, a wonky floor, gaps in the windows, cluttered with things, but we keep it tidy and respect the space. It is definitely not a sterile hotel room, nor a modern town house apartment. It's rather organic. The house is poorly insulated so it gets chilly in Winter; June to August are cold; September to December, and March to June are mild. Summer it gets quite hot in January and February. We have large front loader washing machine, iron and ironing board for use - free of charge. No dryer, we just hang our clothes on the outside line or on a clothes rack. Guests may wish to use room heating and an electric heater can be provided. Electricity usage in the guest room is charged at $0.25/kWh (which is the supplier cost). If a guest wishes to use a personal heater for more than 40 hours (>$10) then a guest charge will be incurred. Usually the electricity cost to guests is under $10 in which case I waiver the charge. Guest room is $30 pppn. Peak periods can be a bit extra. Occasionally price cheaper to fill in short term gaps. There is a $30 booking (cleaning) fee, so the longer the stay, the cheaper the average price per night. Melbourne average daily temperatures: Summer 14-28C (sometimes hot spells of a week at 40C) April 11-20C July 7-14C October 10-20C If this is your first time using AirBnB please make sure you have entered a profile description - it helps find a good match. Please do not send me email address or phone number for an off-system transaction, all correspondence through AirBnB. This is a homestay rather than a hotel, and we enjoy guests that interact and socialise with our other house-mates. Guests that lock themselves away in their "hotel" bedroom make us uncomfortable (and get a poor rating). To avoid disappointment, please fully read house description and rules. FYI this is not a share room; not a dormitory room; not a hotel room. We have rules and expectations about tidiness, and prefer guests that are house trained in doing own dishes and cleaning after themselves. Guest AccessI typically will greet guests on arrival and provide keys for the front door and the guest bedroom. I work weekdays 9 to 5pm, so can great guests after 6pm on weekdays. Interaction with GuestsGLBT friendly. Expect a social and friendly atmosphere typical of an international homestay. 3 other guests in the house, so there will be interaction. We are a social group and prefer housemates that are social. It's nice when guests keep their door open for a chat. Expect visitors and friends dropping in, visits from lead tenant including sounds of furious cleaning, maybe a BBQ, or a group bike ride. We like to encourage a social atmosphere and hope to share some international stories. Open and social guests are welcome. Long term tenants are requested to be on the cleaning roster, which is 1 hour cleaning every 2 weeks. Currently we have 2 long term guests in the other rooms. Sometimes we have an adopted foster dog temporarily living in the backyard. We get all sorts of dogs, ones that bark at night, ones that are a bit weird. We take care of them until they find a permanent home. The NeighborhoodWe live in a very multicultural community - Vietnamese, Chinese, African, Indian. Many restaurants and 2 amazing open wet markets very close. Close access to the city CBD, only 20 min speedy bike ride. We are extremely close to sports facility complex (2 minutes walk from the house); a large gym, large indoor swimming pool, and multiple sports grounds and indoor courts. The Maribyrnong river is nearby, and offers +30km of great walking/riding tracks. Central Footscray is a grungy area, with a hipster vibe and university student presence; graffiti art, food from all over the world, university students, community festivals. There are a number of community services for the disadvantaged located in central Footscray. Getting AroundFootscray train station is 10 min walk from the house, and very close to Melbourne CBD, about 6km on a map - 15 min train ride. Bike riding is the easiest way around. Guests have free use of an old bike. From the house to the city CBD it takes 20 min fast bicycle ride or 35 min cruising. From the airport it is 20-40min ($40-$60) taxi depending on traffic. Much cheaper (and better) option is with Uber, around $30. To get an Uber X from the airport you need to drop a pin on the map just outside the airport area. The Uber driver will call you to confirm your location in the airport waiting area. Other airport option is public Skybus from airport to Southern Cross station in the city ($17), and then train to Footscray ($3.70). Takes +1 hour. Public transport closes around midnight. The PTV website will give you exact public transport times. A good inner city map can be found in a search for “Travelsmart Melbourne map”. For a regional bike trails search for “rail trails Melbourne”. Other Things to NoteGuests are provided linen, duvet, blanket, pillow, towel, soap and shampoo. There is wireless and cable internet available in each room. The bedroom door can be locked, and a key is provided for the bedroom and front door. The kitchen is free to use and also free use of some of the shared condiments. I am a bee-keeper and make honey from the backyard, so plenty of free honey. Occasionally a bee will enter the house at night time (easy to remove) so please take note if allergies are an issue. Also have an abundant vegetable patch, guests free to use. I am a keen mountain biker and have a few extra MTB available you are welcome to join me riding single track in the forest. There are is fairly long river trails directly opposite the house, and a designated bike ring trail (see capital city trail). Footscray is a great inner city suburb.

The SpaceOur stylishly renovated, two bedroom, first/top floor apartment is a surprisingly quiet, hidden gem in a small block of seven close to all the action and amenities of cosmopolitan Footscray. Cosy enough for one and spacious enough to comfortably accommodate four! We like to know a bit about our guests before we accept your booking so PLEASE ensure you have completed your airbnb profile BEFORE you contact us. We're sorry, but we won't approve your stay without a full profile. Thank you! Our pad features: An airy open plan dining and lounge room with wooden floors and a balcony with seating and expansive views. A fresh designer bathroom with shower over bath ( NB. this is not a walk in shower so if you have mobility issues this may not suit you. That said a safety step is provided for the less agile). A fully equipped galley kitchen with dishwasher, cold press juicer and all the other appliances and equipment you would expect (we love to cook and entertain!) A generous sized main bedroom with a queen sized bed and a second bedroom with a high-quality, queen-sized sofa bed. For extra comfort, the sofa bed has 3 inch thick, pillow top mattress pad on top when it is made up. The apartment is fully double glazed and insulated to keep it cool in summer and warm in winter. A gas heater warms the whole house in winter. No air-conditioning but our double brick flat keeps quite cool in summer. We have exterior blinds on the west side that can be used on days of extreme heat and we have just had ceiling fans installed (March 2015- not in images) which can be used to cool in summer and reversed to optimise heating in winter. Off street parking for 1 car. A very low carbon footprint due to double glazing on all the windows and solar panels on the roof. Bedlinen and towels are supplied to our guests for the duration of their stay and a weekly clean of the apartment can be arranged for long term stays. We have a herb and vege patch around the back of the block-- Help yourself! -- and a bike is available on request. NB. Our street runs parallel to a busy rail corridor so inevitably there will be some train noise. (See the Other Things to Note section for more detail) We also have a listing for a private room in our apartment here: https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/5560763 Guest AccessOur guests have full, exclusive private use of the apartment, balcony and car space. We are on the first floor up two short flights of outdoor stairs. Interaction with GuestsWe will meet and greet our guests on arrival and are always available by phone to answer any questions you may have. We are an active couple interested in culture, good food & coffee, renovation, sustainability and healthy living and have lots of local knowledge we can share with you! The NeighborhoodOriginally a traditional working class suburb, our neighbourhood is now extremely culturally diverse. Since the 1950s it has been home to wave of migrants including Greeks, Vietnamese, Chinese, South Indians, Afghans, Sudanese and Ethiopian, and Somalians. Very recently signs of gentrification are appearing in the form of a few cafes and bars. The best of Footscray revolves around food and our apartment is in the heart of it! We have two fantastic fresh food markets-- Little Saigon Market and Footscray Market and the supermarket is just steps away from our door. Vietnamese and African restaurants abound, there are a couple of pubs serving delicious contemporary Australian food, local wines and craft beer, and groovy new places are popping up all the time. Nearby Seddon (10 mins walk) has a sourdough bakery, a wine shop, a gourmet supermarket and lots of cafes and Yarraville Village (20 mins walk away or 5 mins by train) has many restaurants and the beautiful art deco Sun Cinema. The Maribyrnong River is on Footscray's boundary. It has cycling and walking tracks and a big park alongside it. Victoria University is a 10 minute walk away and is also located on the river. It has an indoor swimming pool and gym open to the public. Other nearby places include: -Flemington Racecourse (home of the Melbourne Cup). -The Melbourne showgrounds -The historic port of Williamstown which has a good swimming beach. -Highpoint Shopping Centre (if you need a mall) -Melbourne city centre Getting Around7 minute walk to Footscray Railway Station. 2 minute walk to the bus to the CBD. 12 minutes by bus or train to the CBD. Walk to neighbouring Seddon and Yarraville. 14 mins to Highpoint Shopping Centre by tram 25 minutes by bus to Williamstown Beach. We're on the right side of town for an easy escape to the Great Ocean Road and Victoria's beautiful surf beaches including Bell's Beach and Torquay. It takes 70mins to Torquay (the start of the Great Ocean Road) by car or catch the train from Footscray Station to Geelong (50mins) and a bus from Geelong to Torquay (35mins). Footscray is a public transport hub. Buses leave here for all over the city. Two suburban train lines converge at Footscray station and you can catch trains to country Victoria from there. There is also a tram which goes to a neighbouring suburb. Other Things to NoteOur street runs parallel to a railway corridor (the cutting is below street level) which carries electric suburban trains and country and freight diesel trains. Most of the trains are fairly quiet but there is the occasional noisy one. Generally we hardly notice the trains. On the plus side we have no neighbours opposite and an expansive view! Our block of flats is near to a cafe / bar where live bands occasionally play on the weekend. Noise regulations dictate they always finish before 11pm.

10 minutes walk to Victoria University. Other Things to NoteOur street runs parallel to a railway corridor (the cutting is below street level) which carries electric suburban trains, and country and freight diesel trains. Most of the trains are fairly quiet but there is the occasional noisy one. Generally we hardly notice the trains. On the plus side we have no neighbours opposite and a view to the south-- you can see the Westgate Bridge in the distance! Our block of flats is near to a cafe / bar where live bands occasionally play on the weekend. Noise regulations dictate they always finish before 11pm. As your room is away from the street, in the quietest corner of the flat, these kinds of noises will have minimal impact. We like to know a bit about our guests before we accept your booking so please ensure you have completed your airbnb profile. Thanks!

The SpaceYou will fall in love when you see it. This is what happened to me after a year of looking for a place in Melbourne - it's close to the city, it's massive, it has direct access to the park and river walks, it's in one of the most interesting communities in Melbourne with hipsterish coffee shops and old saigon pho cafes within walking distance of each other. Guest AccessThe entire house. We are open and trusting - we just ask you to respect our place. Interaction with GuestsAs little or as much as you wish. We are likely to be away for the longer stays but happy to meet you and get you set up. The NeighborhoodFootscray is amazing. The part where we are is right on the river with direct access to water walks and runs. It has two amazing cafes within 3 min walk and a beautiful art centre immediately next door. When you cross to the other part of the railway station, the world of asian markets, cheap vietnamese, indian and ethiopean flavours opens up. A short bike ride or 10 min walk would get you to Seddon that boasts one of Melbourne best coffee, breakfast culture and an awesome local wine bar sourcing unique wine from all over the world. Getting AroundFootscray train station is 5-7 min walk. Bus stops around the corner. Bike path is directly accessible with 20 min ride to the city (at least 1 bike provided). Other Things to NoteWe have upgraded our wifi router to mega powerful Apple Airport Xtreme! There is parking for one car on site.

The SpaceThe main bedroom has a queen sized bed, clothes drawers and bedside table for your belongings. Clean towels are available if you don't have your own. In the living area is a day bed/couch dining table and 4 chairs. The two bathrooms have a choice of a shower or a shower over the bath and is clean, tidy and newly renovated. The courtyard and garden space is comfortable to relax in and to eat meals. The house is located next to a busy road so traffic noise is part of staying here though it does not take away from the ambiance of the house and garden. Guest AccessAccess to your apartment is via the main house. You have your own kitchen and lounge room and share the bathrooms and laundry with the main house. We have a communal courtyard and large garden space to share which is a beautiful space to eat outside in the evenings. There are rubbish and recycling facilities besides the back gate. There is an outside clothes line and there are collapsible racks for drying clothes inside if it rains. Interaction with GuestsThe tenants in the main house will probably be in and out - you can choose to spend time together or not as suits your plans, but they are great people with community spirit and lots of local knowledge. The NeighborhoodThe inner west of Melbourne is convenient to the city without being overwhelming. Footscray is known for its great Vietnamese, Ethiopian, Chinese and Indian restaurants, it's fresh food market culture and also for its bohemian lounge-bars. There are plenty of supermarkets and smaller shops nearby and there are also quite a few funky cafes in the vicinity, including 'The Milking Station' one block away, 'and 'Happy River Cafe' at the Footscray Community Arts Centre by the river. The Maribyrnong River is a lovely place for a stroll or to get some exercise. Getting AroundFootscray is only 6 kilometres from the CBD and is one of Melbourne’s major network hubs. The train station is a 5 minute walk from the house and you can see the station from the front door. Footscray has its own tram which runs from Moonee Ponds to Footscray via Highpoint Shopping Centre, and dozens of buses run throughout Footscray. Check the PTV journey planner to find your route. If you are driving your own vehicle there will be off street parking available through the day time limits are enforced so do check the signs! Other Things to NoteWe have a multicultural household in a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood. The space will most suit community minded guests who are looking for something more than just a cheap place to stay.

The NeighborhoodFootscray is a very multi-cultural area, with a large African and Asian community and a thriving artist and student population. However, like many of the hip suburbs in Melbourne (St Kilda, Brunswick, Fitzroy, Collingwood), Footscray has working class roots. I like it because it's diverse, convenient, close to the city centre (6kms) with great transport links (4 train lines). However, it might not suit everyone, please do some research about the area before booking to ensure this is suitable for you. Access from Tullamarine Airpot From Tullamarine Airport, it is about a $55 - $65 taxi ride and take around 30 mins (if your arrival is out of peak hours, ask the taxi driver not to take the toll) Access from Tullamarine Airpot From Tullamarine Airport, it is about a $55 - $65 taxi ride and take around 30 mins (if your arrival is out of peak hours, ask the taxi driver not to take the toll) Otherwise, you can catch the Skybus ($19 per person, per way), the bus ride is about 40 mins to Southern Cross Station. If you are looking for a hotel experience, where everything is immaculate this is not the right listing for you. It is not suitable for children, infants, or single male travellers over the age of 40. The room is on the side of a main road, so it can get noisy with traffic noise, please don't book if this may be a problem. This is a huge room (4m by 3.5m or 13'2" by 11'6") and provided fully furnished with queen size bed, desk, chair and shelves.
