The SpaceGuest bedroom is on the 2nd floor. It has new queen bed, good closet space, sitting areas for working or reading and personal mini-refrigerator for your convenience. Though the need is usually infrequent, there is now also in-room air-conditioning for those hot summer days. Guest AccessKeyless digital entry allows guests to come and go at their leisure. Full, private guest bathroom is immediately adjacent to bedroom. Guests are served breakfast in our dining room or on the private patio where they are welcome to spend their leisure time reading, writing, contemplating the waterfall or just enjoying a glass of Oregon pinot. Interaction with GuestsThough Marie-Hélène and Tim are fairly new residents of Forest Grove, we have fallen in love with this "little town" sandwiched between Oregon's metropolis and its wine country. We'll share our knowledge about both over a hearty breakfast, or entice you to drive off to Canon Beach for the day! We are "retirees" with "in-home" vocations and a lifetime of stories to share if you want to listen! Marie-Hélène is a retired optician who has taken up what has been a part-time passion for 20+ years - jewelry. Tim is a retired educator who has "retired" to his home desk, translating French to English for clients around the world. We are world-wide travelers who are frequently present in the home during the day, and we love talking with our guests when there are no deadlines to meet. The NeighborhoodWe live in a quiet historic neighborhood with wonderful neighbors. Guests can easily walk downtown to where there are a number of local restaurants serving breakfast, lunch or dinner. Pacific University campus is 2 blocks beyond the center of town. Every Wednesday from May to October, take advantage of the Farmer's Market from 4-8 p.m. Enjoy an evening of music, food and drink at McMenamins Grand Lodge, which is barely a mile from the house. Spend an afternoon exploring Oregon Wine Country just down the road. Or head out to the coast and experience beautiful Canon Beach. Driving the speed limit, it's 65 minutes away. Getting AroundWalking and biking are easy in this community. And if you're a city slicker and want to see what Portland has to offer without fighting the traffic or paying for parking, hop on the 57 bus just 3 blocks from our home, which will take you in a few minutes to Metro Portland's Blue Line (light rail). On the MAX, you'll be at the doorstep of the Portland Zoo, the Portland Art Museum or Powell's bookstore in downtown in less than an hour. All for the cost of a $5 day pass. The bus and MAX run several times an hour between Forest Grove and Portland from before dawn to after midnight. Other Things to NoteSecure hi-speed Wi-fi is readily available in all areas in and around the house. So if you love to stream Netflix or other things on your iPad, you'll find it convenient. We are not particularly TV folk, although a TV is present in our living room where –when we watch– it is mostly doses of French films and documentaries on TV5.monde and programs on Oregon Public Broadcasting. You're welcome to join us. There are no pets in the house for those who have allergies. There is now in-room air-conditioning in the guest bedroom of our 1925 Dutch Colonial home. Most of the year the temps are very moderate in the Pacific Northwest; there is also a ceiling fan for ventilation in your private bedroom. P.S. for bicyclists, there is a secure place to store bikes and the little town of Banks, just north of Forest Grove, is a hub of miles of rail-to-trail bike paths that explore the entire region.

The SpaceOur home is open and airy. The back deck, right off the living room and kitchen, overlooks the orchard, and a grassy hill and wooded valley. The kitchen is stocked with coffee and teas, oatmeal and fruit. The main bathroom is off one of the bedrooms, the half-bath is off the office. Because we're off the beaten path, WiFi is available but can be spotty. There's a TV and a stack of DVDs. We hope you feel comfortable and at home. Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire home and gardens around it. There is a barbecue available. There are some trails on the property which are fun to explore or longer hikes on logging trails just up the road. There is a washer and a dryer available to you. There is also an old barn on the property which, while picturesque to look at, is too rickety to explore. Please keep kids out especially. Interaction with GuestsScott and I will be staying in the home across the road, so we'll be available to help or answer any questions. We also have a curious Jack Russell terrier, Tip, who will want to meet you. The NeighborhoodThough tucked away on a small country road, our location is only 2 miles from Highway 26 and is an ideal jumping off point for the coast (a little more than an hour away), a day in Portland (about 30 minutes away), a tour of the Willamette wine country (about 20–25 minutes) and countless hiking/biking trails. There is a bike shop in the town of Banks (5 minutes) which rents bikes and helmets should you want to bike our neighborhood, or the Banks-Vernonia trail. However, if you choose to just stay put, our road makes for a lovely walk or bike ride to a pond with beavers, frogs and herons. We're also less than 15 minutes to Intel's Jones Farm campus, less than 15 minutes to the Brookwood Parkway High Tech corridor, 25 minutes to the Nike Beaverton campus, under 20 minutes to Pacific University in Forest Grove and 45 minutes to Portland International Airport. We're happy to recommend the closest and best restaurants, cafes and pubs we've found, and can steer you to amazing fare in Portland. Getting AroundIf you're driving there's plenty of parking in the driveway. The nearest public transportation is in Hillsboro—about a 20 minute drive to the MAX line—which would get you into and around Portland. There are car rental agencies in Hillsboro as well. Other Things to NoteOur valley is quiet with the occasional howling pack of coyotes or hooting owl. There is even a large herd of elk that can sometimes be spotted across the valley. At last count there are 40 of them!

The SpaceThe yurt has one queen bed, however the space can handle two additional single roll away beds if you don't mind it getting cramped in there. The price listed is for two guests. Add $30 for each additional guest which includes roll-away bed and breakfast. The BBQ is available for your use. In addition, cooking utensils (silverware, plates, etc.) can be made available upon your request. Please let us know in advance if you will be using the BBQ. We are a licensed food cart, so cooking in there is not allowed. While the yurt is cool … the straw bale lodge is probably unlike anything you have seen before! The 3,500 sq. ft. straw bale lodge is the first permitted straw bale structure in Columbia County’s history. The lodge is open each morning from 7:00 - 9:00 am for breakfast. Access to the lodge is also available during the hours of 7:00 am to 8:00 pm for such things as using the sink, refrigerator, filtered water, hot pot, French press, etc. The large log pavilion between the pond and lodge is also a place you will want to hang out. Relax in a hammock or hanging chair. We have plenty of tables and chairs for eating meals, playing games etc. We provide the following games: bean bag toss, bocce ball, giant jinga and horse shoes. Board games are available as well (Scrabble, chess etc.) The pavilion is a great place to hang out even on those rare rainy days during the summer. At night if you would like to have a camp fire we will light one up in the fire pit near the yurt. If you haven’t ridden the Banks-Vernonia Trail before … add this to your bucket list! The BV Trail as it is called is truly one of the best “rails to trails” bike trails in the U.S. The trail dissects the Vernonia Springs property so access is several hundred feet from the yurt. A perfect ride is to head north on the trail 6 miles into downtown Vernonia. Pretty much anyone who can get on a bike can do this ride! The total round trip distance is 12 miles. If you want more of a challenge head south on the trail towards Stub Stewart State Park which is 4 miles up the bike trail and 15 miles to the trail head at the city of Banks. Stub Stewart State Park has an awesome Frisbee golf course as well as a stellar mountain biking trail complex. Besides the Banks-Vernonia Trail ... we also have a small mountain biking trail on the property that is a blast to ride (trail is closed on wet days)! The trail is also used for walking and running as well. Beaver Creek runs through the property and is home to rainbow trout and spawning salmon in the fall. It is an amazing site to see these large fish in six inches of water! The City of Vernonia has a good market, gas station, hardware store, several bars, restaurants and golf course. There is also a really well done timber museum which is worth visiting. Cannon Beach and Seaside are less than an hour away by car and worth visiting for sure. Portland is only 45 minutes. The Columbia County Rider bus operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and drives right by Vernonia Springs on Hwy 47. The bus leaves downtown Vernonia at 6:15 am and arrives at the Willow Creek Transit Station at 7:15 am. From the Willow Creek Transit Station you can catch the MAX light rail to all destinations in the Portland Metro area. If you catch the 7:15 am bus you can be in downtown Vernonia at 8:10 am. The bus leaves Vernonia again at 4:30 pm and arrives at the Willow Creek Transit Station at 5:30 pm. If you catch the 5:30 pm bus from the Willow Creek Transit Station you can be in downtown Vernonia at 6:25 pm. Bus fare is $5.00. You can also get off at Stub Stewart State Park and ride your bike from there to Vernonia Springs. For more information query Columbia County Rider and look for "Line 6 Nehalem Valley." PETS: If you are bringing a pet ... please cleanup after them. Pets are not allowed on any furniture (including bed) and are not allowed in the lodge. If your dog is wet please don't allow them in the yurt until they are dry. Dogs are not allowed to be unattended during your stay. If you leave please put your dog in your car. Extended periods of barking is not allowed per Columbia County Noise Ordiance. Quiet hours are from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. The lodge is open from 7:00 -to 9:00 am for breakfast and 7:00 am to 8:00 pm for using services. Smoking is permitted in the pavilion area only away from other guests. Please dispose of your cigarette butts properly. Alcohol is permitted however unruly behavior will not be tolerated. Please place any garbage in the proper waste receptacle and all recyclable materials in canisters marked "clean recycling only." Please park in the designated parking area only next to the Bell. The turnaround area near the pond is for loading/unloading zone only and reserved for fire truck access. Thank you ... The SpaceLocated half way between Portland and the beach, and only 2 minutes from Stubb Stewart State Park - we are a quiet home in the foothills of the coast range. Cyclists and hikers love the paved Banks/Vernonia Linear Trail that is near us. Your bedroom features a queen size bed, large flat screen TV, desk, frig, microwave and small coffee maker. The private bath has a bathtub/shower. We also have a hot tub under our covered wrap around front porch. Guest AccessCome in the front door, and your private hallway with bedroom and bath is on the left. You'll have a private key to keep your bedroom locked. There is a mini-frig and microwave in the bedroom for your convenience, but you are welcome to share our kitchen. Laundry facilities are also available to be used. Interaction with GuestsWe will be there to greet you as your arrive, and will respect your privacy. I am usually at work Monday-Friday during the day, but my husband can work from home if you need him. We love people and treat everyone like family! We have lived in the Portland area most of our lives and can give you some great suggestions for points of interest in town or the beach. The NeighborhoodIf you are looking for a quiet place in the woods - we're it! Just a very short drive on a dirt road off of Highway 47 heading north to Vernonia. Don't want to camp at Stubb Stewart State Park but everyone else is? We are only 2 minutes away. We are 45 minute drive to the coast, and the same to Portland. Getting AroundBecause of our "secluded" location - we do not have access to public transportation. Other Things to NoteOur home sits on the site of an old mill called the Standard Box & Lumber Company, which was in operation in the 1920's and 30's and the cement footings for the steam engine can still be seen. The first home you see as you enter our property was the original store and hospital for the mill. Our son's family lives there, along with horses, cows, goats and the occasional pig who inhabit the huge red barn next to it. They also have a few chickens in a fenced chicken yard. (we'd be glad to show you the animals any time) As you drive past the barn, you will shortly come to our home. Our small friendly dog "Chewy" might greet you as you pull up. If you are a cyclist, the Linear Trail crosses over our road about 1/2 mile away.

Cozy and remote but with easy access to all the great things our area has to offer. Tucked in a wooded setting, our open and airy cottage is on the county's Historical Registry as a prime example of a 1937 country home. The kitchen is set up for cooking and stocked with coffee and teas. The main bathroom is off one of the bedrooms, the half-bath is off the office. Because we're off the beaten path, WiFi is available but can be spotty. There's a TV with a stack of DVDs and lots of board games. The landscaping is beautiful in every season and there is an orchard below the house where deer can often be seen munching. The valley is quiet with the occasional howling pack of coyotes or hooting owl. There is even a large herd of elk that can sometimes be spotted across the valley—at last count there are 40 of them! There are some trails on the property which are fun to explore or longer hikes on logging trails just up the road. There is a washer and a dryer available to you as well as a barbecue. Though tucked away on a small country road, our location is only 2 miles from Highway 26 and is an ideal jumping off point for the incomparable Oregon coast (an hour away), a day in Portland (about 30 minutes away), a tour of the Willamette wine country (about 20–25 minutes) and countless hiking/biking trails. There is a bike shop in the town of Banks (5 minutes) which rents bicycles and helmets should you want to tour our neighborhood, or the 21-mile, tree-lined Banks-Vernonia trail. However, if you choose to just stay put, our road makes for a lovely walk to a pond with beavers, frogs, otter and water fowl. We're also less than 15 minutes to Intel's Jones Farm campus or to the Brookwood Parkway High Tech corridor, 25 minutes to the Nike Beaverton campus, under 20 minutes to Pacific University in Forest Grove and 45 minutes to Portland International Airport. We're happy to recommend the closest and best restaurants, cafes and pubs we've found, and can steer you to amazing fare in Portland. If you're driving there's plenty of parking in the driveway. The nearest public transportation is in Hillsboro—a 20 minute drive to the MAX line—which would get you into and around Portland. There are car rental agencies in Hillsboro as well. There is also a Jack Russell terrier, Tip, who will love to meet you!
