The SpaceWe invite you to experience a relaxing and rejuvenating 'Retreat' or Get-A-Way in our Tree Home Suite on Whidbey Island WA...just 1 hour north of Seattle. Our nurturing gift to you is providing delicious and nutritious continental breakfasts every morning you are here. You'll surely transend the bustle of busy life and be transformed as you immerse yourselves in this incredibly peaceful and healing environment. Enjoy 'full-circle' views of rich woods in our 250 Sq ft Octagon Tree Home with a gorgeous cedar tree going straight up through the center of the living space! A solid stairway travels 13 ft above the ground, leading to the 10' x 12' covered deck and your doorway to heavenly rest and retreat! Surround windows and skylights in the roof peak allow you to feel what it's like to be completely immersed in a beautiful, serene, healing forest of cedar, fir, hemlock, maple, alders, varieties of fern...and oh...enjoy watching and listening to our 'resident' deer, owls, ravens, eagles and many other birds. Look up through the skylight roof peak to behold a seemingly unending kaleidoscope view of tree limbs circling their trunks as they reach high in the sky. Be sure to see all the photos posted above including views of the beach, water and stunning sunsets over the Olympic Mountains.....easily accessible, less than 1/2 mile away. This gem is best suitable for adults, but we do allow children 12 and older too. Three adults can manage better than 4 because the hide-a-bed is a 'half-way-between-twin-and-double' size. However it has slats and an excellent quality foam mattress so it does not have the typical hide-a-bed 'bars' to contend with, nor does it sink in the middle. We provide single-sized, thick and dense foam pads and linens when needed for extra people. Please feel free to ask us how we can best meet your unique needs. Accommodations in the one Tree House include: Queen Bed, "Sort of" Double Hide-a-bed Sofa (see paragraph above), Desk, Dining Table, Free Wi-Fi, TV moniter for viewing DVD's/VHS. A thermostatically controlled radiator heater AND electric 'Fireplace' add warmth and ambiance. We provide a fridge (with freezer), microwave, dishes and silverware for prep and eating simple meals, warmed up left-overs, etc. We just don't allow 'cooking', using hot plates or fry pans, etc.... The fire pit may be used to enjoy a campfire and grill or roast hamburgers, hotdogs and marshmallows. Substantial cooking here with your own cooking equipment is not encouraged, because that would require more extensive 'clean-up' than just a few dishes and utensils Our drain field is small and we want to keep the flow of gray water into it 'frugal' and biodegradable as much as possible. We provide a tasty continental breakfast to enjoy at your leisure. Your own private (and VERY cute) Shower House just a few footsteps away provides a shower, sink and state-of-the-art, no-odor composting toilet. We do have a porta-potty (marine type) on the deck of the Tree House for the middle-of-the-night needs so you don't have to trudge down in the dark to the composting toilet in the Shower House. Please read the house rules before you reserve to see if this type of accommodation is right for you.

The SpaceWelcome to this charming, private cottage. Winter price is $79.- with some higher prices on Holidays & summer season:) The Cottage is set near the Small Whidbey Island House, which is totally overgrown and hardly visible from the cottage. It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.), about 5 miles from my favorite beach, "Double Bluff", that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking. The cottage is a cozy, light- filled and airy space with its high ceiling and many windows and skylights. The stand up sleeping loft has an opening window and the skylight for a more spacious feel, as well as a comfy double size bed and a writing desk and chair. And because of the wire railing, it is not suited for children. Sorry for that. The galley kitchen is equipped with an under the counter fridge, a apartment size gas range, a toaster oven, a coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments. It has a granite and a butcher top counter. There is Italian tile on the bathroom floor as well as in the shower. There is plenty of closet space in case you decide to stay longer. You may lounge on the inviting window bench seat to take in the open forest view, or enjoy the WiFi to write those long- due letters on your computer. Have your morning breakfast under the porch and listen to the birds. Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds. In 2001, my friend, who is a fine wood worker, and I started to build this wonderful space, using recycled materials as in Windows, doors, flooring and tile. We built it as a retreat for writers. We hand chafed the big posts and beams for a more rustic look. It took us 1.5 years, every day after our regular jobs to finish building it! I love how quiet it is here and how dark it gets at night because we are far away from city lights. Each neighbor has 3 to 5 acres of property and from mine I can see a little bit of the home of one of them. I like that it is only about 2 miles to Freeland where I can find the grocery store and post office as well as some stores for treasure hunting or a cafe to sip coffee in on a rainy day. And please: do read the house rules! That way there are no surprises for you. This is my third space posted on this web site. The other ones are: ~The smaller and lower priced space Tiny House / Caravan (http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/66010 ). ~The bigger House that has a queen size bed ( https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1742586). ~The DOG Friendly, Ocean & Mountain View Apartment (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6164305). Guest AccessCheck in is at 4pm or later! Key code to retrieve the house key will be send to you upon completion of booking. Interaction with GuestsI am available to help you with questions you may have, or other needs in regards to the property and Island. Other Things to NoteThe garbage & recycle can is at the end of entry deck & past the porch seat, the compost bin is by the little path leading to the car & in the woods by the small pitch fork- just pile the compost on top, please place all seafood shells into the driveway to be driven over:)

I like that it is only about 2 miles to Freeland where I can find the grocery store and post office as well as some stores for treasure hunting or a cafe to sip coffee in on a rainy day. Side Story: In August of 1996, I found this lovely property, that before me was owned by Jim, a literal hermit. Jim hand dug the 300' drive way, he build the Sears kit home, he knew the deer by generation, and he never cut a tree; he burned presto logs. Jim lived there from 1963 until his death in 1995. Since then, I have brought in power and telephone, added the bedroom and sun room as well as the decks, totally re-did the inside of this home, and created several gardens. I shall always be grateful to Jim for having set up this property in such a wonderful way. (And please: do read the house rules! That way there are no surprises for you.) The Harbor Chalet has become one of the most popular luxury vacation homes on Whidbey in a very short time, and a true superstar of the Whidbey Retreat's (WR) family of luxury homes. The reasons for its success are simple: it was built from the ground up to take advantage of spectacular waterfront views, has a wow factor "luxury chalet" design ideal for entertaining, has more baths per bedroom, shares the beach below with the Beach Hideaway, and has unbelievable furnishings with some truly top of the line limited-edition pieces. And, it's just a fun layout. The property has five bedrooms and three full baths, with two of the bedrooms having private vanities with sink. The master bedroom is huge, with large closets, dramatic private bath with slate tiled tub and shower, and beautiful lighting. The furniture is limited edition Ralph Lauren Polo type pieces, with wonderful accent art work. The upstairs bedrooms feature hand made, custom, lodge pole country motif beds and accessories. They share a full bath between them. The other bedrooms are on the main and lower levels of the home, the first with a very private cottage feel queen bed and vanity. The last bedroom also has a private vanity and like some of the other bedrooms in WR properties, hides the washer and dryer, but also has the added benefit of a private entrance, in case someone wants to close down the BeachFire Grill at the Golf Club nearby and not wake anyone up! The kitchen is part of a great room set up that is spectacular. This is a case where the pictures don't lie! It features beautiful old oak cabinets (the expensive kind) with custom slate floor and countertops. Because the house was built with serious entertaining in mind, the kitchen layout is exemplary in terms of built-ins, pantry and accessories that a true gourmet cook will like; including oversize refrigerator, gas range, and dishwasher - all stainless steel of course. Like all WR properties, it is complete, with high-end cutlery, cookware, and serving ware. Accenting the kitchen is gorgeous lighting over the eating bar area, which is adjacent to the European style square family dining table:guests love it as it is below a beamed vaulted ceiling that really shows off the spectacular dining chandelier (take a look). The eating area, which is part of the great room, leads through French-style doors to a huge deck perched over the water with a beautiful dining table, chairs and occasional chairs for sunning. Of course, there is a professional BBQ for your convenience. The centerpiece of the great room is a real wood burning stone fireplace that extends up the vaulted ceiling two stories! No wonder we call it the Chalet. It features some amazing lamps gathered from around the world, a classic Stickley Furniture set, all arranged around a huge flat screen television. The two story open entry carries the same drama as the fireplace where we have featured some wonderful, chalet style home chandeliers. The same feeling goes intothe lower level which leads into a warm, rich family room with its own media center and pool table. From this room, you can step to a private deck, which has a covered hot tub overlooking the water and adjacent lawn. As with all WR properties, there is a library of books (take one/leave one), wonderful amenities and antiques, as well as truly beautiful original art hung throughout. And, there is some real whimsy in the old Railroad Station clock hanging in the great room, as well as in the upstairs chandeliers and fan/light sets. As an added attraction this year, we are adding a Garden Club Cottage custom built for us that is an adjacent play/bunk house for the kids or anyone who is looking for added adventure. If you don't have to be right on the water, the Harbor Chalet offers a truly extraordinary vacation home for your family or group getaway. Take a look at the pictures and you'll see why most guests have been repeat customers. The Harbor Chalet is located on Holmes Harbor in Freeland.

Perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking Honeymoon Bay, sits the enchanting Bay Cottage. It is a magical setting with such a unique charm and peaceful feel...there is a gentle spirit to the house and setting that one cant miss. It is calming. Upon your arrival you may be thrilled by the cry of the local bald eagles soaring above the towering trees that frame the Bay Cottage. The eagles cries, just over your head, will stop you in your tracks - and you will listen. As you enter the house, passing through the kitchen into the great room, two sets of floor-to-ceiling French doors reveal even more. The view will literally lure you to step out onto the large wrap-around deck. There, you willl take a fresh breath of sea air and absorb the magnificent mountain views on the horizon, dominated by Mt. Baker. Closer below, in Honeymoon Bay, is a postcard perfect view of fishing and sail boats in the bay. At night, the gentle bobbing of the mast lights at anchor sets a visual metronome that adds to the peacefulness of the setting. There are covered walk around decks that allow you to move freely around the property. You will marvel at all of the plantings, the work of a master gardener, and be amazed at how it almost seems to be a different eco system with each corner you turn. Such is the charm of the grounds of the Bay Cottage. The interior is not less of a marvel. The decor is upscale, warmly whimsical and welcoming, with many touches that will delight. The consulting designer, Rebecka Regis, sought a gentler womans touch, with colors, textures, and designer lighting that set the mood, warmed the spirit, and provided a calming environment that would remove guest from their workaday world. She succeeded. The walls are painted in soothing Tuscan tones and the linens and fabrics brighten every room to complement the cottages growing art collection. The floors, except for evergreen slate in the entryway, are rich, warm hardwoods, graced by beautiful collectors rugs. The master bedroom, which is light and bright, is the hallmark of the home with charming accents, and flowing curtains that evoke the ethereal feel of the famed old Delano Hotel in Miamis South Beach. For the ultimate sleeping indulgence, claim the room with the queen sized Tempur-Pedic bed. Marvel at the French doors that open to a private water view and sitting area that allows you to slip discreetly to the uniquely situated cliffs edge hot tub. This is a hot soak you will never forget! This suite also features an utterly charming private bathroom - imagine heated floors and true spa shower system pampering you. For the gardener in the family, the patio bedrooms French doors open to a sunny warm cobblestone garden patio with antique wrought iron furniture. It is here, next to the giant lavender climbing clematis, where birds, raccoons and bunnies may wander by as you enjoy your morning coffee. Youll also see deer tracks as there is a Doe and two babies who live in the nearby forest...be careful when you pull out of the drive, they are often there. After breakfast, warm your feet on the second bathrooms heated floors, or take a leisurely bath in the old fashioned claw foot tub...what a fun indulgence. If relaxing, pondering the view, reading or movie watching is on the agenda, then curl up on one of the over stuffed sofas and wrap yourself in one of our warm throws. Or just tuck yourself into one of the cottages two reading nooks, or out on the covered veranda. Add some warmth and romance with candles, surround-sound music, a fire, and maybe a good wine. Now you are feeling better. Of course there is stereo flat screen TV entertainment system if you want to watch one of your old favorites; there is a good selection of movies in the seaside village of Freeland at the end of the Harbor. If you muster up the energy, you can take a walk down your own private path to the beach sunning area below. When it comes to dinner, but no rush, there is a true gourmet kitchen awaiting. The fully-appointed custom designed country kitchen has everything you want with all amenities and stainless steel appliances. It is a great place to cook and keep up dialogue with your family and friends as the kitchen area opens to an antique chandelier lit dining area with a charming country table. From there the great room design flows to a beautiful, romantically lit living room centered around a wondrous hearth and fireplace whose design dates from when the home was built decades ago by an old sea captain. You never doubt why he picked this spot after a life at sea to settle down. If you want a truly restful, calming vacation, or just a weekend away to unwind, recharge or reconnect with a loved one, the Bay Cottage was built for you. Rates and minimum nights required for certain datews and holidays may difer from rates posted above. Please ask about last minute and other off season discounts. Set on 200' of waterfront, fringed by tall evergreens, and orchard grounds, this waterfront home is the most popular family getaway in Puget Sound. Guests have used words like "Magical" to describe it and the experience they have had there with family or friends. It is perfect for that special vacation or gathering, as the main area is a massive great room with vaulted skylights, a gourmet kitchen at one end and a wood burning fireplace at the other; entertainment system, designer furniture, and an oversized pinewood family farm dining table. This entire main living area is all glass with ocean view; the kitchen and dining area feeding onto a huge deck overlooking the harbor. It is light and open with a massive, specially designed 8 'X 14" centered skylight, an antique dining chandelier, oversized southern fan, and custom lighting to set whatever mood you want. Your experience at the Harbor Retreat is enhanced with a huge family room on the lower level, complete with pool table, big screen TV, game table, computer game system, play area, library (take one/leave one) and river rock hearth fireplace. And, of course, like all Whidbey Retreat, properties, there is a huge modern hot tub overlooking the ocean with it's own private setting. Each bedroom is uniquely themed with charming accessories. Throughout the home the designer furnishings are sprinkled with wondrous 1840's pine antiques from the owner's extensive collection, with every room adorned by beautiful original paintings. The kitchen is a gourmet chefs dream, with a huge custom cooking island, with seating, and vaulted ceiling with pine beams and huge skylights. The brand new stainless steel appliances are a joy to use! It's one of those places designed to create magic moments; you know the ones where everyone is having a great glass of wine, looking at the sunset reflecting off the sailboats, engaged in banter and shared memories, listening to the laughter and clink of the pool table from the family room below, while the chef cooks up their favorite recipe. We need more such memories in our lives, and the Harbor Retreat is the place to make them. The grounds are no less enchanting as this huge waterfront estate size property is fringed with mature evergreens, and boasts six varieties of apples (pick some for the best pies you've ever had), two kinds of nut trees, and three varieties of cherry trees. In the springtime, the Rhododendrons are some of the most magnificent on an island famous for the most beautiful Rhodies in the world. There is also an ocean viewing platform where wedding ceremonies have occurred, and a wonderful garden enclave with private wooden swing:a place to share secrets. To make it all perfect is the beach; great for exploring as you can walk for miles, all the way to Freeland when the tide is low; speaking of which, the tide always brings in some special memory for the observant beachcomber. Of course, there are clams, mussels and the odd oyster on the beach. And, the harbor is the best place in Puget Sound for boating, kayaking and other water play. Ask us about our winter specials and last minute specials! The Harbor Retreat is located in Freeland on 200' of waterfront off of Holmes Harbor.

With all the glowing reviews and write ups on the other Whidbey Retreats (WR) properties, how do you exclaim that one is a cut above, more expensive; but as the ad says "Worth it!" Simply put, the Harbor Lodge is the finest estate level property available for rent in Puget Sound today. Estimated at a value of nearly $2 million, this vacation home is for those discerning few who are used to the very best. There are seven different finished woods used in the construction, which might give you a sense of the attention to detail. The Harbor Lodge has its own private grounds (nearly two acres) with fruit groves, gardens for meditation, and private dock. Kayaks and other water toys may be available, upon request, for use around the harbor and to explore the island. The master suite is indeed a masterpiece, with its own sitting room and wood burning fireplace, office set up (internet included) and large TV. The King bed has a Temper-Pedic mattress and the master bath is all Italian marble, with its own bidet. Somewhat smaller in number of bedrooms than other WR properties, it makes up for it in size of the rooms and common spaces; living quarters that evoke an upscale, but understated beachfront elegance. Of course, there is a pool table and hot tub as well as indoor and outdoor dining. The two theatre level sound systems are the finest, and most expensive, available. It is our largest and best equipped kitchen and the home has catered to some of the leading Fortune 500 executive, actors and athletes in America. The furnishings are as you would expect in the finest homes; the same holds true for the art collection that is housed here. Marble and Brazilian slate abound, with some wonderful, serendipitous antiques. The fruit grove is very productive with several varieties of apples, pears, plums, apricots and cherries. Enjoy some and leave some when you are our guest. The apples make some of the best pies you will ever have. And from the sea, you will be able to crab within a 100 yards of your dock, and there is great fishing at the head of the bay. Of course, the beach holds clams, mussels, some oysters and great memories as you beachcomb. If you are used to the very best, then the Harbor Lodge is worth considering. The Harbor Lodge is located in Freeland, right on beautiful Holmes Harbor.

Welcome to this Small Private Whidbey Island Home! This one is set near the Cottage that is also listed with this web site. It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (Antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.). About 5 miles from my favorite beach"Double Bluff" that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking. The Small House is a cozy light filled and airy space with its many windows and skylights. It is meant to be an adult getaway. The bedroom has opening windows and a skylight over the bed for a more spacious feel and to look at the stars; it has the feeling like you are sleeping in a tree (website hidden) has a comfy queen size bed and a writing desk and chair. There is plenty of closet space in case you decide to stay longer. The regular sized kitchen is equipped with a large fridge, a gas range, a toaster oven, a coffee maker, a toaster, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments (salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, sugar, tea, coffee). It has a granite and a butcher top counter. There are colorful Italian tile in the shower, and dark green with gold flecks “Ubatuba granite on the bathroom floor. In the living room, you may lounge on the inviting 16 foot window bench seat to take in the open forest view through the 13' window, or enjoy the WiFi to write those long due letters on your computer. Have your morning breakfast in the sun room or on the spacious deck and listen to the birds. Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds. I love how quiet it is here, and how dark it gets at night because we are far away from city lights. Each neighbor has 3 to 5 acres of property, and from mine I can see a little bit of the home of one of them. I like that it is only about 2 miles to Freeland where I can find the grocery store and post office as well as some stores for treasure hunting or a cafe to sip coffee in on a rainy day. Side Story: In August of 1996 I found this lovely property, that before me was owned by Jim, a literal hermit. Jim hand dug the 300' drive way, he build the Sears kit home, he knew the deer by generation, and he never cut a tree; he burned presto logs. Jim lived there since 1963 until his death in 1995. Since then, I brought in power and telephone, added the bedroom and sun room as well as the decks, and totally re-did the inside of this home, and created several gardens. I shall always be grateful to Jim, for having set up this property in such a wonderful way. (And please: do read the house rules! Perched on a bluff with bald eagles around, the Captains Cabin waterfront home commands an enviable perch with a view that goes forever. The entry way is through a vine covered arched trellis opening onto a cobblestone courtyard. Upon entry, you are surrounded by a courtyard filled with the Captains memorabilia, and a wonderful garden, complete with treasures from his years abroad. The stairs lead to a manly entrance flanked by copper drains, and glass lighting from the Far East. The entrance hall is 9 feet high with magnificent art around, including a painting of his fastest clipper ship, the Enlim. Once through, you enter a great room unlike any you have ever seen, with ceilings up to 11 feet. At the heart of it is the Captains old dining table off the HMS Katania, the Captains first command; you'll spin your own yarns with meals at this beauty. Of course, there are all the modern conveniences and the finest hand built cabinetry. The kitchen sink is a masterpiece hewn of copper by Whidbey himself as a gift passed on to the captain from his descendants. The living room fireplace is trimmed in the richest burl, direct from the master's quarters on the Kayana, one of the Captains most famous flagships. Finally, there are the decks that surround the great room; with a grand view of Honeymoon Bay, the Captains bay. Then there are the bedrooms... The guest VIP, with vaulted ceilings, with a large King Bed, has French doors to its own deck and afternoon courtyard; all with the finest electronics for personal entertainment. The third guest bedroom also has French doors opening to the courtyard. Also beautifully furnished, this room has a queen bed and LCD television. The Captains bedroom is a magnificent affair, with the center bed a king size four posted gift from Prince Sulawi, whom the Captain saved from pirates near Mindanao. The Armoir is one of the finest pieces of antique French walnut furniture of its kind, a gift of gratitude from Madame DuClair. Of course, his room opens onto the same magnificent view; watch it changes as the sun moves across the sky. On the water side there is a wonderful cobblestone courtyard. Follow a brief path out to the bluff watch where the Captain took his morning chicory, an exotic brew whose recipe was never divulged, even to the Wench. This wonderful spot is has a natural cabana of evergreens and Madrona's...there is something magical and inspirational about this little setting, so unique and picturesque. From the deck, there is also a winding path to the beach, and bulkhead where the Captain kept his dingy at the ready to go to his Katania, the ship he purchased from the Royal Navy upon her retirement for his own private corsair. The modern day Katania, one of the finest private yachts in the world, owned by the Captains grand nephew, was recently hailed by the actress Hilary Swank as the most beautiful in the world. Sailors' End is situated on the culdesac at the end of the road--set back from the beachfront--where kids can play in the huge yard or bike the culdesac while you relax on the deck. Up the road, the private community swimming pool is warm and welcoming with tennis next door. Down the road is the community's private beach access to the sugar-sands of Mutiny Bay--SW-facing and great for beachcombing, beach fires, and building castles and forts--a favorite local pasttime. Sailors' End borders a nature preserve where you'll hear the croaking of frogs at twilight, and see rabbits, deer, bald eagles, osprey, and at night--STARS! The upstairs living area is spacious and airy with sky lights and an open floorplan facing peekaboo views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. It's been recently remodeled with new windows, doors, and bamboo flooring--clean and fresh. Master bedroom has king bed; second upstairs bedroom has double. All bedrooms have down comforters and pillows (non-down options available). Kitchen has that comfortable beach feel (functional, not fancy) and is large enough for multiple chefs and stocked with plenty of everything for large groups. Open floorplan is great for socializing; artistic touches add whimsy and style. If you've got friends or kids joining you, you'll make use of the lower level with its huge family room--DVD player, board games, toys, and fireplace. Also two more bedrooms (queen + twin, and full + twin) and laundry room. Ping pong table in the carport! Plenty of space for folks to gather together, or curl up alone for a little down time. We're a short drive--or bike ride!--to Freeland's excellent grocery store, Langley's antique shops, and South Whidbey State Park's old-growth hiking trails. Large backyard has apple tree and swing, and beckons for wiffle ball, croquet, or bocce ball. Sailors' End is the kind of beach house you remember from your childhood--not fussy or fancy--but comfortable, well-appointed, and a great place for relaxation and fun. Designed by famed waterfront architect Robert Maloney, the Beach Hideaway will take your breath away. With its two bedrooms, 2.5 baths, gourmet kitchen, 42" Plasma HDTV in the living room, massive river rock fireplace, decks to the water, and private hot tub, this bungalow sits on a private sandspit and has more charm and amenities than any waterfront getaway anywhere in Puget Sound. Once you arrive, you won?t want to leave: it's amazing (just read some of the reviews, many from honeymooners). Set on a private spit of land in Puget Sound, this wood beamed cottage was originally built in the 1950s (when you could still build right on the beach). It is so remote that you have to use a four wheel drive Kawasaki Mule to even get to it. But don't worry, it's the Lexus of its class with comfortable, covered seating for six, plus plenty of luggage space. Everywhere, we strive to keep the best of the old, while incorporating the finest in modern touches and charm to make your stay nothing short of wondrous. We?ve even incorporated what the beach has given us for decor: driftwood retainer wall in the courtyards, and an old, long forgotten, abandoned beach beam from some far away land as our mantle. You have your own private beach with driftwood, clams, mussels, oysters, and so much to explore, as there are no other homes adjacent in either direction. The state of the art hot tub, away from prying eyes, where the ladies might relax with their wine, while the guys take a boat for fishing with a beer. Or maybe you'll all venture out in kayaks we can arrange for you. Inside, you'll find that the best of the old beach cabin with its old growth beams have been painstakingly preserved to former richness by Ron Milne, Master Refinisher. They are enhanced with rich slate, nails head flooring, warm wall treatment, and designer lighting to set the mood to make those special moments. The furnishings, like all of Whidbey Retreats (WR) properties, is the finest. What a great place to watch the theatre level satellite cinema system, or to just curl up with the stereo surround, toes tucked under one of our oversized throws, while enjoying the flames of the river rock fireplace. Or listen to nothing more than the lapping waves that will do their best to still and comfort your soul. And, the only sounds you will hear will not be people, but the bald eagles that live in high aeries above along the shore; their cries that pierce the air are so distinctive. (Be sure to bring your camera, especially to capture the mottled brown of the young eagles less than three years old.) Also, like the other WR properties, the house is a veritable art gallery, with each key painting set with museum lighting. These are some of the finest from the owner's private collection of over 300 pieces, and are meant to evoke a sense of romance and sensuality. The kitchen is a gourmet chefs dream: you'll want to go home and redo your own, except that you won't likely have a setting like this where you are viewing the ocean only feet from the kitchen window. It has every amenity with slate counters, stainless appliances, and all the utensils you will need to make those special meals for your special getaway. There's even a serving bar. It's set up with a couple of eating stools for the quick meal or to perfectly present the cocktail hour martines (Bombay Sapphire straight, very dry, with two olives for us)!. At night the dining table sits surrounded by glass with a beautiful chandelier, which you may want to dim to see the lights of the boats on the ocean. Of course, there is both formal outdoor dining, or our favorite is to be casual with the table side luxury chaise lounge chairs. Of course, there is a professional BBQ at your disposal. Or the unprofessional BBQ in the form of your own beach fire pit where you roast hot dogs and have smores on the beach. Yum! Finally, there are the bedrooms. We've left the best for last. The back bedroom has it's own ultra private stone courtyard reached by beautiful French Doors, perfect for your morning coffee with it's antique settee. You will need to bring a robe, as the hot tub is just a few steps away. The large king bed is so comfortable you won't want to leave! The waterfront bedroom has wrap around wood trimmed picture windows that bring the ocean to you. The bath is something you would see at a designer?s showcase with both a tiled shower and a clawfoot slipper tub that has double wood French doors opening to a wrap around deck that steps right to the beach. A glass of wine, a rose, a candle and a warm summer night at dusk: that's an experience you will never forget. We could go on and on about the Beach Hideaway; it's special because it's meant as the place for you to go with someone very special. The Beach Hideaway sits at the bottom of a bluff right on the waters edge. This home is in Freeland.

The SpaceWelcome to this charming, private Tiny House that I call "The Caravan" It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.), about 5 miles from my favorite beach,"Double Bluff", that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking. The caravan is a cozy light- filled and airy space with its high ceiling and many windows and a skylight. The sleeping loft has an opening window and the skylight for a more spacious feel, as well as a comfy double size foam pad and futon mattress bed on a futon frame. The galley kitchen is equipped with an under the counter fridge, a toaster oven, a 2 burner hot plate, a coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments. The bathroom has a shower and a flushing toilet. This is not a regular septic tank, please flush only when absolutely necessary, and please put all paper and feminine products into the garbage can provided! As someone so wisely said: If it's yellow let it mellow. If it's brown flush it down. All linens are provided (towels and sheets). You may lounge on the inviting window bench seat to take in the open forest gully view, or enjoy the dial-up internet to write those long- due letters on your computer. However, I was made aware that the WiFi is spotty, so I put in a land line that you may connect to. The 15' yellow cord, which is located under the table with the stereo, will allow you to take the computer onto the porch via the window. Bring a device/ Computer that has a USB port on it for the land line/dial up. Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds. Please make sure to read the house rules and manual.
