One north facing window frames the Blue Ridge Mountain and a west facing window frames Buck Mountain and a wind-blown silo. Guest AccessThis bedroom is up seven stairs in a single-family house in the country. Guests are welcome to make use of the kitchen if they agree to clean up after themselves. Kitchen utensils, pots, skillets, microwave, gas range, refrigerator, dishwasher, dishes, dish clothes and towels, coffee and tea maker are available by request in advance. Interaction with GuestsInteraction with Guests Accommodations at VVCG are being made available for people looking to experience a country setting away from the lights and hustle and bustle of city life. There is a written list of restaurants, and information for guests in each room. The NeighborhoodYou may notice the stars seem brighter on clear nights at Vineyard Vista Country Getaway because the lights of town are five miles away. Vineyard Vista Country Getaway is remote and rural, yet close enough to allow easy and fast access to local attractions such as Shenandoah, Luray and Skyline Caverns, scenic driving on the Skyline Drive, canoeing, hiking, civil war museums and the Shenandoah Valley Museum, or just relaxing and enjoying nature in the country. VVCG is about thirty miles from Shenandoah University and Conservatory of Music and about fifteen miles from Christendom College in Front Royal. Other Things to NoteOther Things to Note Peafowls have roamed free here for over seventy years. You will want to watch where you walk. There are no ghosts here, but you might wonder about that if you hear them walking on the roof. To roost they launch from the roof to perch in trees. If something disturbs them you will hear them warn each other. Peafowls are just as fascinated to watch people as people are fascinated to watch peafowls. No!! They do not bite. They are tame and you may get close, but you will not be able to touch them as they are very fast. Please watch your step as you approach the house. The peafowls think they own the lawn.

The SpaceThe “Cabbin" is a newly renovated historic building that was once a cabin, but is now a small brick building (with the logs still inside the walls). In the spirit of Appalachian Trail (AT) hiking, most people rent individual beds for a night or two at $28/person/night. We've hiked the trail and know to provide hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, a shaver, Q-tips, linens, shampoo, soap, ride into town, breakfast, etc. Walk-ins are welcome, but it's always best to call or e-mail ahead so that we can coordinate. With a paid deposit, you can rent the whole "Cabbin" for $155/night – look for this as a separate listing on AirBnB. The 2nd floor has 4 twin beds and a small, full bathroom. Downstairs is a small kitchen and dining area and a space with 2 futon beds and a small library. The space is air conditioned (or heated, depending upon the season). For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" (and before and "in progress" pictures of the main house) look for us at: Mountain Home in Front Royal. Starting in about 2018, we will operate a full B&B from the main house, as well. Guest AccessGuests can hike in from the Appalachian Trail, just north of Shenandoah National Park, or drive in and park for free. We also provide a shuttle into Front Royal for lunch/dinner, post office, resupply, etc. You can leave a car and shuttle to a hiking spot ("slack pack") for a small fee. Interaction with GuestsWe are resident at Mountain Home every night we are open for guests. We greet our guests when they arrive, answer any questions they may have, provide hiking, and local activity suggestions, shuttle them to and from town with suggestions on where to eat/shop/find necessary services, and serve a continental breakfast in the morning. We might even provide s'mores around a small outside fire pit on a given night :-). But if guests just want downtime to rest, read or recharge, that is fine, too. We have a small library for guests as well. The NeighborhoodWe love being close to the Appalachian Trail and an easy walk in either direction. We are rehabilitating the 1847 historic Greek Revival Style farmhouse on the property into a full B&B. There are 5 other buildings on the property including a chicken coop and sheep shed which we are also going to repair and restore. We are happy to provide tours. The property is on the National and Virginia historic registers as "Mountain Home". Getting AroundWe provide a shuttle into and out of town. Once in town, there is the Trolley service. Many restaurants, services and the visitor center are all walking distance from historic Main and Chester streets. We have parking for those with vehicles. If you are coming to or from the DC area, contact us about shuttling on Mondays, Thursdays or weekends. Other Things to NoteWe can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Wineries and fine dining are just down the road. Additional information is in the ATC “Appalachian Trail Thru-hiker’s Companion” and AWOL’s “The AT Guide” for 2014.

The SpaceBy request, the Cosy Rose Room at Vineyard Vista Country Getaway will allow a dog or two. There is an outside entrance through the laundry. Dogs are welcome, but please be courteous and do not ask to bring your dog/s if it or they are not house broken and you are not willing to wipe their feet when they come inside. Guest AccessThere is a closed in garden where a dog may exercise and run free. Interaction with GuestsIf a guest chooses to relax in peace and quiet or to interact exchanging stories and good (URL HIDDEN) it is my plan for a guest to be comfortable. After all, the purpose of a getaway is for a person to rest and relax or find an enjoyable way to play. The NeighborhoodThe charm of Vineyard Vista Country Getaway is the rural setting. On spring, summer and fall mornings it is relaxing to sit on the kitchen deck and watch peacocks strut, or if early enough watch the sun rise over the mountain while enjoying a cup coffee or special tea. Other Things to NoteLet me know in advance if you want brochures for local attractions or something special in the refrigerator for breakfast.

The SpaceAgatha’s Inn is not only a place to come for rest and relaxation, but it’s a place to witness evolution in-progress. The home and the land where Agatha’s Inn rests, while considered “old” by many, is more active today, then at any other time. Over the past 15 years, the property has seen major renovations to both its structures and landscape.

Rolling River Farm (com) Private 100 Acre Riverfront Paradise surrounded by water on three sides due to its location on a full bend in the legendary Shenandoah River. -Just one hour from Dulles Airport and the Washington Capitol Beltway -Just one and a quarter hours from Capitol Hill (believe it or not there are only two traffic lights between the farm and the the Hill). Starbucks, restaurants and shopping only ten minutes away. 100 holes of Golf are within a four mile radius. Historic Downtown Front Royal with its shops, restaurants and antiques is fifteen minutes from the farm. Deep water for swimming, tubing, water-skiing, wake-boarding with a private boat ramp (suitable for small boats and jet-skis) and a private dock. All right from your own waterfront. Bring your own boat and jet skis or arrange for a boat rental with the owner (additional cost can be quoted). Kayaks and canoe provided free. After a day on/in the river enjoy showering off in the exquisite outdoor shower and sunning yourself dry on the built in bench or experience the fun of showering and then shaving at the outdoor sink with the birds singing above you in the morning light (naturally this feature is closed in the colder months). Panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Walking/riding trails right on the property. Hunting (in season) and fishing available right on the farm (with permission of owner). Horses are welcome, with permission, and there is a paddock and grazing as needed. The traditional Virginia stucco farmhouse has been thoughtfully renewed, restored and redecorated to preserve and enhance its charms. To quote a recent visitor from Maryland: "I can't tell you what a blast we had. We felt like we were in a movie. The house could not have been more perfect, it was warm and cozy and allowed us to spend quality family time together. My family loves history and this farm house and property is loaded with just that. We loved the way you have restored it allowing the history to show through yet updating it at the same time." All Season enjoyment--The wrap-around porch is the perfect place to watch sunsets or enjoy porch drinks. The brick terrace with its gas fire-pit is great for stargazing and conversation on cool evenings. Winter nights can be enjoyed by the fire sipping hot cocoa or reading a good book. Surrounded by over one hundred acres of rolling fields and woods with a river on three sides you can soak up the quiet and seclusion. This is a private vacation retreat, very much family oriented that contains religious art and images that reflect their faith. They invite you to come and explore or just get away from it all.
