The Space~350 square feet of simplicity and charm, and yes, it is as old as it looks! This home is very small and has low ceilings. I would recommend contacting me if you're taller than 6 ft. There are pots, pans, utensils, etc for most basic meals. The fridge and stove (new 5/9/16) are about 2/3 size (of normal) and there is a microwave and coffee pot. This house is more geared towards spending the evening reading or sitting outside on the hammock as there is not a TV. Our WiFi generally streams pretty well (not so much if we happen to be streaming as well). We are constantly working on making it better and appreciate feedback! Guest AccessUnless we specify otherwise the door will be unlocked with your key on the table. Many of our guests arrive at night and we will leave the light on as it's in an odd location. Parking is available on the street or come down the alley and park next to our shed. Our yard is large with an outdoor barbecue and hammock, which are generally available for your use (no gluten allowed on the grill though!). Our home has a washer/dryer which we could certainly arrange use of for guests who stay multiple nights. We cannot guarantee that our yard will be free of dog poop. We do make a strong effort to keep it at a minimum Interaction with GuestsAs a host it's difficult to gauge whether guests want to interact or not, so we generally opt towards giving guests privacy unless they choose to initiate interaction, which we are all for. In a perfect world we would be friends with all of our guests by the time they leave! We are very willing to give opinions on things to do, places to eat, etc! I am a former river guide and like meeting people from different walks of life. She is an elementary school teacher who has a heart of gold. Please knock on our door, or text/call if you need anything at all and know it is absolutely never a bother. The NeighborhoodWe have perhaps the best location in Fruita. The charming downtown is maybe 200 yards away. There are more stores in Fruita that are not downtown, and those are easy biking distance. Fruita is a quiet and peaceful community, and most of the businesses here are closed by 9. If you are into the nightlife/bar scene, Grand Junction may be worth looking into. On the contrary if you want an affordable spot that is quiet and has great trail access, you can't beat Fruita. Please respect our neighbors as well as our town and local trails. Getting AroundWe are walking distance (2 blocks) from "downtown Fruita". We are just a bit over a mile to the West entrance of Colorado National Monument. Approximately 5 miles from Kokopelli trailhead biking and about 10 miles to North Fruita Desert trails. Perfect spot to stay for mountain biking, seeing the Colorado National Monument, floating the Ruby Horsethief section of the Colorado River, or breaking up a drive between the Front Range and Utah. Other Things to NoteFruita is HOT in the summer. If you come this time of year you will want to get an early start, find shade, find water, go to high elevation, or all the above! Inflatable kayaks or paddle boards can be rented from nearby Rimrock Adventures for a fun river activity. The desert sun is brutal by 11 AM and only gets worse until 6 PM. It is best to visit from September - May. The weather is generally ideal for hiking and mountain biking in the fall and spring. The winter is a total crapshoot - but I have had many sunny days where I get out and bike, hike, or climb.

The SpaceYou will have a private bedroom with a new queen-size Westin Heavenly Bed and private bathroom. Your room has views of the Colorado National Monument. The home has fabulous views of both the Book Cliffs mountain range and the Colorado National Monument. The landscape here is inescapably abstract; bare with shapes of the calm earth in the ever-changing lines and shadows of light on the Book Cliffs. Your eye will rest on the charged presence of the Monument and Book Cliffs by day and the stars at night which are so beautiful and bright. One guest described it as a star observatory! The wildlife here includes dear, coyotes, many birds and a few Great Horned Owls. Guests cycling from the house go over the Colorado National Monument and back. You will meet other riders on K Road as this is a loop route and very popular all year round. Breakfast here is a treat. Fresh farm eggs, fruit grown here in the Grand Valley that are accompanied by breads, pastries or cereal. To drink you can help yourself to juice, coffee and a wide variety of teas.T Grand Junction is the largest city on Colorado's Western Slope and the heart of Colorado wine country! To the east is the Grand Mesa with lakes, forests and terrific fall-color displays. To the west is the Colorado National Monument, a little Grand Canyon of red rock formations, steep drop-offs and high vantage points, including the 23-mile Rimrock Drive. To the south is the lush Western Slope agricultural oasis, fostering everything from wine grapes to peaches that feed more than 20 Grand Valley wineries and local farmers' markets, respectively. To the north are the Little Book Cliffs, sheer rippled walls of stone that descend from the mesa top to the valley floor. If you are fortunate, you can hike up the Book Cliffs and see a band of wild horses that roam freely. The great Colorado River flows from the Rocky Mountains down through the city and into Utah. Here, you can take mild to wild river raft rides, with several areas on the river offering class-IV rapids. Nearby Rattlesnake Canyon is worth a trip to see spectacular red-sandstone arches. Charming and booming with local businesses, the streets of downtown are filled with art galleries, clothing boutiques, antique shops and a variety of restaurants — many with delightful sidewalk dining. Main Street also features one of the nation's largest outdoor sculpture collections, with more than 100 pieces of art lining the sidewalks. Because the city often has milder weather than the rest of Colorado, several fine local golf courses boast that you can play here all winter. Guest AccessYou may make yourselves at home in all public parts of the house -- use the kitchen, living and dining rooms or relax outside on the front or back patio. The house offers several reading nooks that are perfect to take in all the nature here. We have an extensive book collection on Colorado travel and many books on wine and art. You may use the washer and dryer. One space in the garage is also made available to our guests to park their car, store bicycles and equipment. Interaction with GuestsWe are here to help as needed and enjoy visiting with guests. Sometimes guests enjoy sharing a meal or conversation, sometimes our schedules do not allow for that. We always want you to feel at home, feel free to share common areas, and be an honored guest. Just let us know if there are any needs or requests that we can accommodate. We can recommend great hikes and outdoor activities as well as good coffee shops, food and entertainment in the area. The NeighborhoodThis is a rural area with many interesting people from all over the world. We can walk to one of our neighbors and have pictures taken with reindeer or tour an apple orchard. If you are so inclined, you can purchase farm-fresh eggs on a honor-pay basis. Life is good here and very peaceful. Getting AroundThe house is about 7 minutes from I-70.
