The SpaceThe hilltop view and proximity to a variety of activities are what people find most enjoyable about this home. Within 20 minutes, you can visit Auburn with its many shops and restaurants, Coloma, the site of the discovery of gold in California, and the American River with its popular fishing and white-water rafting. The home has a new heating and cooling system. Guest AccessGuests will be provided full use of the home, with its full kitchen and laundry, and the spa. Free WiFi is available as well as use of an Internet phone (national calls only). The bathroom has a enclosed full shower (no tub). There is also a fenced pasture for dogs and horses. Interaction with GuestsThe owners, when present, stay in a separate home on the property. Otherwise, guests will only have phone and Internet contact with the owners. A host/caretaker who lives on a neighboring farm will be available to assist guests with their needs. The NeighborhoodThe area consists of farms, horse ranches and country homes on at least 10 acres (about 5 hectares) each, so there is lots of privacy. We recommend trips to local wineries that are scattered throughout the Sierra Nevada foothills. These newer wineries are reminiscent of the Napa Valley wineries over 30 years ago. The middle and south forks of the American river are popular for swimming, kayaking, and white-water rafting (there are many rental companies and whitewater rafting tour companies in Coloma). Horseback riding and hiking are very popular, with many miles of excellent trails. Lake Tahoe is about an hour up the mountain by car. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation to the home. The closest airport is Sacramento International Airport, about 1 hour away. San Francisco International Airport is about 3 hours way. You may chose to rent a car at the airport and take the drive up the mountain. You may want to stop and enjoy Auburn's Old Town along the way. Other Things to NoteThe location experiences all four seasons, so in the winter months a light snowfall is possible. Summers can be warm. The closest town with dining, supermarkets, and fuel is the old mining town of Georgetown, about 4 miles away. This is a very rural area with deer, wild turkeys, and a great variety of other wildlife. This includes bear and mountain lion, so be mindful of your children and pets when outside (we have never seen a mountain lion on the property but we are hoping we do as they pass through the area on occasions).

The SpaceI had to relist the space with Air BnB, so I lost my previous references. But here's one... Fab-u-lous. I wanted to get out of town if even overnight last weekend. I found this great little place and emailed Peter at 10pm Friday night. Early the next morning I already had a reply. So, I was off to the races. I arrived in the afternoon after great and detailed directions from them. Mind you the connectivity gets spotty in the area so if using gps from the phone, it can go blank. Use their directions, it's worth it! Beautiful ride up! Really nice and welcoming folks! Offered me a glass of wine after showing me around from one of the local wineries. Delicious. The room is very nice, contemporary, yet so very cozy! And, with fantastic wifi connectivity if you desire to be connected to the outside world, stream movies, etc. The guest house is perfect for 1-2 people comfortably. I had shopped first for items I could keep in the fridge and grab n go. They also have a coffee machine which worked really well. They have dishes and plates and paper towels. (some places don't have these items and are diy so I was happy to see these included). It's hot up in that area in the summer, but the fan and more they have in the room will keep the edge off. There's tubing to be done on the American river just minutes away! And hiking/walking right there, in, and around. I will def go back! https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/1916531 And... ...the property owner was very nice and personable. The unit itself was in excellent shape, actually even nicer than pictured. It felt a lot like staying in a nice hotel suite, except in the middle of the woods away from everything. Also, not really noted is the exceptional view the unit has right out the front window. https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/14413960 Guest AccessDirections from Sacramento/SF • Take Hwy 80 to route 50..., and it takes about an hour from Sacramento. • Once on 50, AFTER Cameron Park Road • Exit 37 Pondarosa, S Shingle Rd in Shingle Springs. • Turn left onto N Shingle Rd • Head over the freeway then at light • Turn right onto N Shingle Rd • It will become Green Valley Rd at the light, but go straight • Continue straight onto Lotus Rd.
