Secluded but centrally located, Halcyon Sky Cottage is a 1-minute walk to the beach and an 8-minute walk to Georgetown, shops, restaurants, boat rental, straw market and water taxi to the outlying islands. An equally short walk in the opposite direction takes you to more hotels, restaurants, car rental and an area known as the "Fish Fry", a group of quaint local "shack" restaurants built by the seashore and waiting to serve you tasty Bahamian food.
Sky cottage is specifically designed to accommodate guests visiting Halcyon, Rosemary Minns' Exuma home. On a hilltop amidst an acre of garden carved out of island bush, Halcyon is part of a family estate originally granted by King George III to Loyalists in 1785 after the American War of Independence. The location has spectacular views of Elizabeth Harbour, favorite haunt of pirates in the early 17th century, to the north, and of woodland stretching as far as the eye can see to the south. While fully air conditioned, the buildings have been situated to catch cooling tropical breezes, with high ceilings and many windows ensuring cross ventilation and welcoming the outside in.
The unit comprises 1000 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space, and is fully furnished with all the necessities for a happy vacation. With an open concept floor plan and comfortable furnishings, it has a large open deck to enjoy the ever changing views of the sea and colorful garden. A perfect Bahamian retreat to rest after the bustle of sightseeing and water activities.
The accommodation is centrally located on a hill one-minute's walk away from the beach, overlooking spectacular Elizabeth Harbour. It is a 6-minute's walk from Georgetown, hotels, restaurants, food stores, shops, straw market, boat rentals, water taxi dock and beaches. The unit is in the detached guest wing of Halcyon, the owner's home, on a private road, Sandy's Hill, in the 215-acre family estate now covered in native vegetation. Although easy to find the unit is completely private with its own entrance and has a 300 sq. ft. open deck. There is ample parking for cars but a car is not really necessary if you like to walk, as it is within easy distance of most local shopping, eating and entertainment.
