The SpaceClose to hiking, golf, apple picking, OMI sculpture garden, Martin Van Buren's house & Hudson's shops. We have 12 acres - half wooded, half rolling hills with a great swimming spot and a deck with teak lounge furniture at the center of it all. Make it your own private spa weekend by asking for a massage therapist and/or a yoga instructor to come to the house. The house already comes with a wood fired cedar hot tub and steam shower, as well as an indoor jet bathtub! The house has old wide board floors with sunshine streaking through all windows in all seasons. A rarity in the US, but popular in Europe, our natural swimming pool uses plants and air filters to keep the water clean - no chlorine! It's a huge pool, (70x120 feet) with a sandy beach. The kitchen is a fully equipped chef's kitchen with french doors all around that open onto the grounds with a view of the private pond. Radiant heating keep your feet warm while you cook. In the summer there is an ultra comfortable large hammock for 2 overlooking the natural swimming pool/pond, or take a picnic on the far lawn under an apple tree. In the winter you can go sledding on our rolling hills or cross country skiing from trails that begin at our back yard. Out back there's a cedar deck leading down to the woods and to the wood-fired hot tub. If you're interested in using it, please ask so we can get it ready for you. Guest AccessYou will have access to the whole house! There is a guest house about 300 feet from the main house and occasionally it may be occupied. If you're interested in also renting the guest house let us know. Interaction with GuestsIf we are around, we'd love to meet you but can also leave instructions so you can access everything on your own. The NeighborhoodOnly 15 minutes from Hudson NY, and the village of Chatham, and 40 minutes from Great Barrington. Ghent is nestled in the best area of upstate. Right down the road is Art OMI, an international outdoor sculpture garden that has great concerts, 100 acres of cross country ski trails, and a weekend brunch/lunch that's a must. The gentle rolling hills are perfect for bike riding and in the summer, you can take a dip in many of the creeks and rivers in the area. You can go horseback riding in the immediate neighborhood, check out Styvesant Falls for a swim, or the historic village of Kinderhook. For Antique Shopping or some truly impressive eats, head to Hudson's famed Warren St and you will fall in love. Getting AroundHudson is only 2 hours from Penn Station on Amtrak. If it works out, we may even be able to pick you up from the station, but you may want a car to explore the area. Other Things to NoteFor the summer, we require a three night minimum, but you're welcome to ask for 2. If the place isn't rented and it's close to the date, we may consider it. We can accommodate larger groups. There is a separate guest house ("the barn") on the other side of the property that you could also rent out (this listing is just for the house) and the land is great for camping too. Just inquire if you have a large group and we'll work something out! The main house has 4 bedrooms: 1 King, 1 Queen, 1 Double, 1 Twin, plus about as many air mattresses as you could want and some good couches to crash on. If you have a bigger party, we'll make it work. On 12 acres - you can spread out! Regardless of our minimum will consider renting it for a day for special circumstances. (Photoshoots, etc - additional fees may apply, but just ask!)

The SpaceOur family-friendly Columbia County Farmhouse is just two and a half hours from both NYC and Boston. Come in winter for skiing, sledding and long nights by the fire. In spring and summer you can spend almost all day outdoors. Fall is the perfect time to visit for apple picking, hiking, antiquing and the beautiful autumn leaves! The style of the house is simple and comfy. Furnishings are eclectic with lots of vintage and antique pieces. There are 3 bedrooms that can sleep up to 6 people and a pullout couch in the living room for another 1-2 people. There is a bathtub in the upstairs bathroom and a shower in the downstairs. The kitchen has all the tools you need to cook an amazing meal. The house is on a very secluded 8 acres of land. 4 of the acres are wild and 4 are maintained for outdoor play. The road is very quiet, sometimes the only vehicles that go by are tractors! **Though there will be no pets on the premises during your stay, we do occasionally bring our 2 cats up on the weekends with us. Of course the house is thoroughly cleaned before your arrival but if you have severe cat allergies you may have a problem staying in our home. Guests will have access to the entire house as well as the yard with the pool. There are a few closets in the house that are locked for our private belongings. Also the garage will be locked. I will not be present at the house while my guests are there. I am always available by phone or email. Columbia County is a beautiful pastoral area. Farmland and little towns are abundant nearby. It is extremely quiet and laid back and a perfect place to get away from it all. The house's town address is Chatham, but it is actually closer to Spencertown, which is only 5 minutes away. The town of Chatham, with lots of shops and restaurants, is a 10 minute drive and Hudson is 30 minutes away. There is so much to do in Columbia County as well as in Great Barrington and the Berkshires. Travel times to the Berkshires vary between 20 minutes to an hour depending on where you are going. You have to have a car to get around the area. There is no public transportation. There is plenty of space for parking on the property. Because this is our second home and we are not always at the house I usually need about a week prior to booking to get the house ready for your stay. Last minute requests are difficult but may be possible. Also most of August is listed as unavailable at the moment because I am still working out my family's plans but if you are interested in a specific date please contact me and I will let you know if it's possible. If you decide to book the house we have tons of recommendations and a binder full of brochures to help you plan your trip! Feel free to contact us with questions. The SpaceThe main floor has oversized glass doors overlooking a natural swimming pool and our 12 acre property. A rarity in the US, but popular in Europe, our natural swimming pool uses plants and air filters to keep the water clean - no chlorine! It's a huge pool, (70x120 feet) with a sandy beach. You share the pool with the main house, but we always find there's plenty of room for everyone and often times you will have it to yourself. Upstairs there are two country-chic bedrooms (One double, one queen) as well as an open sleeping loft. The loft has 3 twin mattresses or we'll make them into a daybed for smaller groups. Memory foam mattresses and hypoallergenic bedding. Room for yoga & meditation. The guest house is about 100 yards from the main house and we share the pond/pool and grounds. There's a collection of music instruments & the barn has a great collection of games - both indoor and outdoor. Feel free to use the pond for swimming/skating and the trails for XC skiing. Just please ask us in the winter if the ice is solid enough before going on it! Interaction with GuestsWe live in the main house, and will be here if you need us, or leave you alone if you prefer. The SpaceThis is an 17 year old house built by the owners sited on 30 acres near an old stone sheep herding wall, now comfortably broken in. It's very cozy but open, with radiant heat and one wall of windows (inspired by the Charles and Ray Eames House) looking out towards the lake and hills. The land is beautiful in all seasons. Our 30 acres of woods is on a private road with 3 other properties, one of which is a horse farm. I have four children (now ages 17 to 7), two boys and two girls, so we have a variety of toys and books. Downstairs is an open plan with several living areas and a separate 600 square foot kitchen with a Viking range, dining area and bathroom. There is a queen size pull-out couch, a double/single fold out couch, and another that is the size of a twin mattress. Two bedrooms and a bathroom are upstairs. Both bedrooms have panoramic views of the lake and land. There are two sets of twin bunk beds in one bedroom and a queen bed in the other. Our 30 acres are private but we share our 20 acre lake with 3 other properties and local fauna, which is abundant and includes deer, turkeys, chipmunks, beaver, turtles, lizards and a variety of birds. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the whole house, 30 acres of land, a charcoal grill, a canoe and a pond. Interaction with GuestsI'm a regular emailer & texter. Once the guest is officially a guest, I'll share my cell for texting and calling. Otherwise, you're on your own. If you need someone there, the caretaker is readily available. The NeighborhoodColumbia County has become a mecca for the local and organic food movement. Food shopping is unrivaled with the Chatham Food Coop 5 miles down the road, nearby is Hawthorne Valley Farm where we get our raw milk, the Berry Farm where we pick our own berries, we visit the lambs when we pick up our yoghurt at the Old Chatham Sheepherding Company, and Grazin' Acres where we meet our beef and chicken. The city of Hudson, 15 miles away & next door to Olana, boasts some of the best restaurants in the Hudson Valley, if not the state. We are regulars at Chatham's Blue Plate, if for no other reason than the bread and tapenade. More detailed, Hudson-focused information is available at this blog: hungryinhudsonny. We have lately been finding ourselves in Great Barrington and always hit up Gypsy Joynt - great pizza and live music. The kids love it - and there's Robin's Candy emporium across the street, great ice cream around the corner! There's also a regular cineplex in Great Barrington. 15 minutes to Catamount, 25 to Butternut. Swimming at Copake, Kinderhook, etc., visit the lambs at Chatham Sheep Herding Company, pick berries, apples, etc., or shop in Hudson and Great Barrington. Visit the Shaker Museum, Olana, Tanglewood or Berkshires. Two hours from NYC. For more info about hiking trails and outdoor sites, visit the Columbia County Conservatory's website and look at the 'public conservation areas'. Getting AroundBike the 1.5 miles into town and have lunch, play tennis, buy antiques or check out what's happening at the Spencertown Academy. Five miles will get you to Chatham for restaurants, movies and shopping. Other Things to Note1. There is a Roku Streaming Player for watching Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu, or anything on your laptop, on the flatscreen TV. The trees grew too tall for satellite cable apparently. 2. The kitchen faucet is sensor. The top sensor turns it on & off with a wave of your hand. The one under the faucet turns it on & off automatically so you can wash your hands, etc. If you walk away, it will turn off. Or you can turn it off by waving your hand above it and using that sensor. 3. The largest burner on the stove (front left) has a broken starter. You'll need to use the clicker/lighter that's in the drawer next to it to light it. Please make sure it is turned off when not in use! Sorry for this inconvenience.

The SpaceDown a residential road off of a small country road, our home is a natural, quiet, and private getaway. Despite its peaceful location, it is minutes away from the main draws of Columbia County--towns, art centers, farm stores, hiking trails, and historic homes. You could easily hole-up and just relax in our cozy home and private land, or explore and enjoy the local area. We tend to do both, never feeling we get enough of this wonderful place. After you enter the house through the mudroom, you walk into the "old part of the house," which was built in the early 1800's. We did a gut renovation, re-design and rebuild of this part of the house, including a new roof, new framing, insulation, painting and detailing. We restored the old part of the house to its original structure and exposed wood beams throughout. We also installed a new, top-of-the line kitchen with work space for a few people, and an adjoining counter to the dining room. The kitchen-living room has 15-20 foot high ceilings, natural light, a wood-burning stove, and a cozy sitting area. Off of the kitchen-living room to the left as you enter are the pantry and guest bathroom, which has an original clawfoot tub. Off of the other side of the living room is the guest bedroom, which has access to the screened in porch out back. As you walk from the kitchen into the dining room, you enter the "new part of the house." The previous owner, an architect, bought the house in 1970 and built this seamless addition in the 1990's. This part of the house contains the master bedroom upstairs; the kids' bedroom with a trundle bunk bed at the end of the hallway; the second, full bathroom, and the den with TV and sleeper couch. With windows and French doors throughout the house, we get natural light all hours of the day. There is a wrap-around deck and screened-in porch off of the back of the house on the first floor. The master bedroom upstairs also has a deck that looks out on the back yard and pond. Far from any main roads, down a residential road, our home has natural privacy and quiet. The house sits on the south end of our 15-acre lot. We have a gigantic back yard, with sledding hill, that ends at our back woods. From there, you can walk a loop trail up to our second pond, which has a canoe or natural ice rink depending on the season. The property used to be an apple orchard and there are still 3-4 apple trees, two pear trees, a Japanese maple, a plum tree and other charming flowers and shrubs. Our house is also a great place to cook all year round. Henry has worked as a professional cook and built food production facilities. We designed, built and equipped the kitchen for people who love to cook, like us. We also have a basic Weber grill out back. We are frequently adding to the kitchen and improving all areas of the house and land. Some of the best farms and farm stores of Columbia County are within minutes of our house. On the flip side, you can quickly reach the Dairy Queen in Ghent, Price Chopper in Chatham, Walmart in Hudson (boo, but handy), and all of the restaurants and shops of Chatham, Hudson, Kinderhook, and Valatie. We also have a good stock of sporting and outdoor gear. We have set-up our home for working remotely--good wifi, wifi printer, desk, and cable and Apple TV. Guest AccessYou have access to our whole house and land, which is clearly marked. Interaction with GuestsWe will send you a guide to the house before you arrive and we will leave a printed copy here. We ask that you read this so you understand our guidelines and how things work. We live in New York City and we are not here. We leave keys in a lock box and you let yourself in. You will have complete privacy and our place is very peaceful. We will leave you some local tips, but you should research the area for points of interest. We want you to treat our home with care and figure many things out on your own. If there is an emergency, dial 911 and contact us immediately. If you break something or if something does not work that's serious, please contact us too. However, you should be able to figure most things out. During the winter, we can turn on the heat in the old part of the house remotely before you arrive so the place is warm and toasty. The NeighborhoodWe are in a perfect location in Columbia County. We are 1/4 of a mile up the road from Art Omi Sculpture Park: you can walk there from our house and they have great drop-in art classes for kids. We are a few minutes drive from Little Ghent Farm, Kinderhook Farm, Berry Farm, and Tierra Farm. We are 15 minutes from Hawthorne Valley Farm, which is a great place to stop and pause, before coming to our place. We are 10 minutes from Chatham, Valatie and Kinderhook, and roughly 20 minutes from Hudson. We are also 30 minutes from the Catamount Ski Area. We are 20 minutes from Spencertown, another 5 to Austerlitz and about 40 minutes to Great Barrington. We are also 40 minutes from the Albany Airport and 30 minutes to downtown. Getting AroundThe best way to get to our place is to drive up the Taconic. You exit left off the Taconic at Harlemville Road, just after the Harlemville/Philmont Exit. You can also exit there, stop at Hawthorne Valley Farm. When leaving HVF, you go left and continue left up the hill on Harlemville Road, crossing the Taconic and continuing on. Coming from North on the Mass Pike, you exit for the Taconic and get off at Chatham. You then take State Road 66 to us. Train service to Hudson from Penn Station is great. We are a solid 45 minutes from the Albany Airport. There are also 2 airfields near us if you fly a private plane! Other Things to NoteWe are still doing some work to the house--not while you are there--but we are repainting in the fall, upgrading the mud room, etc. This is all exterior stuff that's not terrible but will look much better in the future. Please pardon some of our exterior blemishes. We also do not have air conditioning. The house is well-insulated so it stays cool during the day and it gets cool at night. However, it can get warm on a hot, muggy day. Finally, we are 1.5 miles away from the Kinderhook Sportsman Club, a private rifle range, which has been operating for 50 years. They practice Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings. During the winter, there is rarely any activity and for the most part, the sounds coming from the Club are very light (During the summer, because of all of the trees and distance, the sound is muffled). Our two young boys play in the yard and are not bothered by it (if practice is underway) and no guests have mentioned it or been bothered by it at all. Still, if this will bother you or your family, you should consider it. On the more charming side, we have plenty of wildlife, without any bear-spottings. We get wonderful birds in our trees, have turtles, frogs and fish in our ponds, and see deer, who run away into the woods. We've quietly looked upon lots of bunnies, beautiful butterflies, and even a flock of 30 wild turkeys has passed through.

The en suite bath has a nice sized shower and radiant heated floors. While the room is within our home, it is in a separate wing of the house with a semi-private entrance. Guest AccessIn addition to the entry (mudroom) and the bedroom suite, visitors may use the grounds of our 15 acre farm, including front and back porches, patios, woods, fields, pond, and streams for hiking, swimming, or just relaxing. We are happy to offer you coffee and continental breakfast in the morning, and other meals may be arranged upon request and our availability. We typically do not share the kitchen with our guests, but exceptions can be made--just ask if this is important to you. Interaction with GuestsWe are excited to welcome you to our home and to provide any guidance you'd like about activities in the area. We are particularly knowledgeable about the area's many cultural offerings, including Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Shakespeare and Company, MassMOCA, the Clark Institute, and antiquing in Hudson. Great family activities and many other attractions are within a short drive. Just ask, and we're happy to help! The NeighborhoodSpencertown is one of the most beautiful hamlets in the Hudson Valley. Home to artists, writers, farmers, and descendants of the original settlers, Spencertown is unique for its rural setting and easy access to the vibrant larger-but-still-small towns that abound in the region: Hudson, Great Barrington, Lenox, Stockbridge, (all only 20-25 minutes away) and others. We are also only 5 minutes from Hawthorne Valley Farm, with its beautiful setting and well stocked natural gourmet country market. Getting AroundParking is available right in front of the house. Bikes of all sizes available to loan (please bring your own helmet!). We are 25 minutes from Amtrak in Hudson; 45 minutes from the Albany International Airport; 45 minutes from Metro North in Wassaic. We are 3 minutes from the Taconic Parkway and about 15 minutes from I-90. Other Things to NoteWe have 3 dogs (one a large and very exuberant puppy) and 2 cats (plus a horse), so our home is not a good choice for people with pet allergies or anxieties. We don't want to set anyone up for a negative experience. The bedroom is up a steep and narrow single flight of stairs. We welcome children and have safety gates, highchairs, etc. available for young kids, if necessary. We do have wifi but in our rural community, it can be slow or go out unexpectedly. Equally, cellular service is spotty in our area.

The Farm Cottage is a restored 18c farm house nestled in the outlying pastures of Kinderhook Farm. Enjoy a private retreat surrounded by our grazing cattle and sheep, wild turkeys, foxes, Red Tailed Hawks, Barn Owls and an occasional Bald Eagle. Please note that The Cottage is not The FarmStay - see listing # 342648 - which is an open sided red barn in the central area of Kinderhook Farm and is available late May through early October only. However, selective farm activities can still be enjoyed by conferring with farmers, Lee & Georgia, when you arrive. Our kitchen is fully equipped to rustle up a delicious farm meal. We stock a variety of dried herbs and spices. In the warm months an outdoor herb garden is at hand and a barbecue is ready for grilling up some grass fed beef. During the colder months, enjoy a meal by the fire with unobstructed field views through french doors. Either season our sunsets are spectacular displays of violets, pinks, golds, and soft greens. The hub of Kinderhook Farm is in walking distance. If you're traveling with young children we can provide you with a portable crib and linens, highchair, baby pool, kiddie bike and jogging stroller. We've also stocked up on board games and books for young and old. You'll find croquet, badminton and horseshoes available. Local tennis courts abound and there exists a secret swimming hole on the farm only available for FarmStayers and Cottagers. Those who have experienced Kinderhook FarmStay know the unique excitement and beauty of living on the farm. The Farm Cottage is in response to those who have been interested in an extended opportunity - a stay that's available all year round. In the fall, Columbia County is a painter's palette of color. Crisp weather is perfect for hiking, shopping and dining in Hudson or the Berkshires. Winter is beautiful, often snowy - and nothing better than having breakfast next to a cozy wood fire with a view of rolling pastures. Snowshoeing and cross country skiing is outside your door. Spring is seductive as flowers and trees emerge in soft yellow greens and lambing goes full tilt at the farm. Early summer is the beginning of the busiest time at the farm and in the Hudson Valley and things don't slow down until mid December. The entire cottage is light filled. The first floor consists of a small entry way, living room, small sitting room/bedroom, bathroom, a kitchen/dining area with wood burning fireplace, and pantry/laundry room, Both the living room and kitchen have french doors leading out to a wrap around bluestone patio. The master bedroom is upstairs as well as a bedroom with twin beds. There's plenty of storage. Air conditioning and heat are included as is WiFi and cable television.
