The SpaceThe guest apartment is completely separate on the ground floor of a 2 story house facing directly onto Westernport Bay in the quiet seaside village of Jam Jerrup. Facing due West to French Island we get some fantastic sunsets you can watch from the lounge or even in bed.
The apartment consists of a double bedroom, tv/living area, kitchenette/diner and bathroom as well as a European laundry. There is also a second bedroom with 2 large single bunk beds suitable for adults or kids. There is room for up to 4 guests. Pets are very welcome and the front yard is fenced (1m) and gated. Jam Jerrup is a very dog friendly place and your furry friends can walk off leash or run on the local sandy beach. Many guests take up the offer to walk my own friendly doggie Jade and the cats will probably come along as well. Guest AccessGuests can access the entire downstairs area, terrace and fenced front yard and drive. I live upstairs separated by a staircase and locked door and use a separate outside staircase and entrance when guests are here. There is a gas bbq outside and a table and benches on the terrace overlooking the bay. There is a door to the backyard where my ducks and chickens live, which can get quite muddy and poopy in winter, so enter at your own risk. Guests dogs should never be allowed out the back, even if accompanied. The chickens will probably run up to say hello and there is chook food in the green bin next to the back door if you feel like feeding them, they love that - it will also shut them up in the morning. Interaction with GuestsGuests will have the lower floor to themselves. If convenient for both of us I will greet guests then leave them to themselves. If you arrive at night I will come down and say hello the next day. There are brochures for local tourist attractions and you are welcome to ask for advice. I lives upstairs, which is partitioned off and has a separate external stairway and entrance. I enjoy having a chat or coffee with my guests, if convenient, but also happy to leave people to themselves. I will ring the bell on the outside door and come in that way. If urgent you can always come up the internal staircase and knock on the door. The NeighborhoodJam Jerrup is a small hamlet of 40 houses facing west onto French Island directly across scenic Westernport Bay. There are no pubs, shops or cafes nearby so you need to bring your own food. It is very peaceful with lovely nearby walks in the bush, the cliff path or along the beach. There is a sandy beach which is suitable for sunbathing, paddling or fishing when the tide is in. All my guests agree it is a beautiful and special place and particularly nice to watch the sunset from the terrace. It is also a very dog friendly neighbourhood.
There are no shops in Jam Jerrup and the nearest town, Lang Lang, is 10 minutes away by car only. It has a good takeaway and a small supermarket and liquor store and pharmacy. San Remo (30km) before the bridge to Phillip Island has a very good supermarket and great cafes and restaurants. The Penguin Parade is at the far end of Phillip Island and is about 50km away. Koo Wee Rup is about 25kms away has a larger Woolies and other stores as well as a 7 day chemist (8am to 8pm).
Other bigger towns are Cranbourne (40kms), Pakenham (35kms), Wonthaggi (45kms), Melbourne SE outskirts (40km), Melbourne CBD (90kms, 75 minutes without traffic), Melbourne Airport (120km, 90 minutes) Getting AroundThe nearest public transport (bus) is 2km away. Buses go to Melbourne CBD and Cranbourne train station (40 mins) to the City (another 70 mins). I am happy to drop people off or pick up by arrangement as long as they have a vehicle when they arrive. I have picked up guests and dropped them off at Melbourne airport but will charge a reasonable rate, about $120 (it is a 220km round trip!) if agreed and it is convenient. I also have 4 Myki travel cards which can be used to travel by train from Cranbourne into Melbourne CBD and around town on trams, trains and buses. They are loaded for 1 day's return travel and cost $10 and must be returned.
There is also a booklet I have made up which details the local attractions and I am happy to let people in on the "secret drives" I have discovered over the years which have amazing hilltop views of the coast but won't appear on any tourist brouchers. Just ask. Other Things to NoteThere are no shops, pubs or cafes in Jam Jerrup. Backyard: I have 2 chickens (Neetie, Red) +2 ducks (Wendi, Bob) in the backyard and 2 cats (Minoo, Rosie) and a friendly old dog (Jade) upstairs so probably best for someone who loves, or is at least tolerant, of animals. If you have allergies then consider that the cats have probably been sitting on the furniture recently even though it is regularly cleaned. The backyard is not set up for guests so enter at your own risk as it can get quite muddy (and duck/chicken poop), especially in winter.
The house: is about 40 years old, last redecorated about 6 years ago.
Bathroom: Fresh towels and linen are provided. Also shampoo and body wash. There is a hair dryer.
TV: digital tv so takes most connectors. DVD player, HDMI connector and AppleTV.
