The SpaceSingle room cottage approximately 25 feet by 25 feet. The Cottage has a private European Bath, shower and toilet in same room. All pets are welcome and will have plenty of room to roam. We have a gate to close off property. The Cottage is a detached building which is part of a small family sheep ranch near the top of Sonoma Mountain. The ranch is located near several Sonoma/Napa wineries and the town of Petaluma, California. Petaluma is a very picturesque river town founded in 1858. The town has several excellent restaurants and a fairly active night life. Petaluma is approximately 8 miles from the ranch, about 25min drive down Sonoma Mountain. Bike riding and hiking are very popular activities on Sonoma Mountain. The road to the ranch is itself a popular bike route but should only be attempted by advanced riders. You climb approximately 1,300 feet vertical in 5.5 miles. I'm a cyclist so would be able to give several recommendations for incredible routes within a 45 minute drive from the ranch. This is a rural property so there is abundant wildlife.

The SpaceThe vintage cottage is full of charm and comfort. It offers 1400 square feet of indoor space on almost 1/2 acre. In the 80's a Tiger lived in the old garage on the property and had a pen outside on the concrete patio. Old-timers from across the creek recall the sound of his roars, but not his name. A free night at the Tiger House for anyone who can authenticate his name! A beautiful idyllic retreat for a couple or two, with multiple areas both indoors and out to read, nap, drink wine or just enjoy yourself. It is a wonderful opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle and to explore all that Sonoma County has to offer. The master bedroom is spacious with a wood-beamed ceiling, and the 2nd bedroom is a cozy sleeping loft. The 2nd full bath with shower is located at the foot of the stairs leading to the loft. The kitchen is small but fully stocked to meet all your cooking needs and there is both gas and charcoal BBQs for grilling. While the cottage is cozy we often spend much of our days relaxing outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Guest AccessGuests will have full access to the home and garden. The creek is easily accessible if you fancy a dip during a hot summer or fall afternoon. Interaction with GuestsWe live in Sonoma so will be close at hand if you need anything or if something goes awry, but we want you to enjoy the space with as limited interruption as possible. We try to meet all of our guests at check-in but you may receive "self check-in" instructions if we are unavailable. Let us know in advance your arrival time - ideally anytime between 3 and 5:30 that is convenient for you - and we'll be there to welcome you. The NeighborhoodThe best part of the home is how close it is to everything. In Glen Ellen Village, one mile away, there is shopping, the beloved Glen Ellen Market, a few tasting rooms and some fantastic restaurants! We are also well positioned to take advantage of the multitude of wineries in the region representing a wide variety of styles. Pack a picnic and enjoy the nearby Sonoma Regional Park, Jack London State Park or the lawns of various wineries. If you enjoy gardens, check out Quarryhill Botanical Garden. (URL HIDDEN) Some of our favorites include: -Benzinger -Imagery -St. Francis -Arrowwood -VJB -Mayo -Chateau St Jean Please enjoy yourselves responsibly as the roads are rural and the folks in blue are out keeping everyone safe. For a stress-free wine tasting experience we always recommend having a designated driver (that's one of the reasons they have spit buckets at the tasting rooms :)) or hiring a driver. Other Things to NotePlease plan to bring beach towels for laying out and water shoes for creek-dipping.

Enjoy the wine country in Glen Ellen, just 55 minutes north of the Golden Gate, or 15 minutes from the Sonoma Town Square! It is the enchanted area of writer Jack London, wineries like Benziger, sophisticated restaurants, or just the bliss of relaxing with a local glass of wine, get the grill going, and prepare something from the incredible selection at Glen Ellen Market ... This wine country cottage provides you with a cozy atmosphere, closeness to goodness in Glen Ellen and plenty of outside space to use for breakfast, lunch or dinner. While not a large house, it is elegant, has two rooms with comfortable beds, a full-size kitchen, two very nice outdoor eating areas, and the great Sonoma Wine Country all around it. There are numerous olive trees on the property, roses in the front, a great picknick area out back and to the side, a heat lamp for chilly evenings, direct access to Warm Springs Road for those who love riding their bikes here, and it is literally surrounded by tasting rooms within a 15 minute driving radius. It is close to the Sonoma Valley Regional Park (great for running!), or the famous Jack London park with its Jack London Museum and peaceful gardens. Drive up to Morton's Warm Springs and dip into their pools, or drive over the scenic Warm Springs Road to the Kenwood area for more wine tasting than may fit into a single weekend - or just walk to Glen Ellen, with its variety of restaurants, a tasting room, the GE market, or the Wolf Bar. Lots of room for dogs to safely roam as its 0.6 acres are fully enclosed by a beautiful redwood fence that also provides additional privacy. It's also adjacent to a large former 2 acre orchard with no building on it, adding to the green scenery and secluded feeling of the place. Other Activities: Hiking in Jack London Park, visiting the Jack London museum, swimming at Morton's Warm Springs, Wine Tasting, Massage in a 22 foot wine barrel at Magical Massage, close to Jack London Village, horseback riding through nearby parks, golf at the Sonoma County Golf Club, bike riding, ... Glen Ellen is a small town off the beaten track in the Heart of Sonoma County. Visitors are primarily from local Bay Area communities, but some are from across the country as well. International visitors are still rare. Its most famous citizen was Jack London, who wrote much of his work on his “Beauty Ranch in Glen Ellen. It is now a state park, a museum, and a great place to visit. The property is 4 minutes walking from Glen Ellen's center, or less then a minute driving. It feels like you're out in the wine country with its olive trees and four gnarly old vines out in the front while being close to world-class restaurants, a gourmet market, and various tasting rooms or a massage place inside of a gigantic and (thankfully) empty wine barrel. Glen Ellen is at the heart of the Sonoma Valley and the Valley of the Moon district, and as much about wine as about winding down. It is the perfect alternative to the bustle of modern Sonoma or the tourism of Napa - you will find a quiet spot full of 19th century brick buildings, tiny cottages and picket fences, and with enough natural beauty to recall an older, simpler version of the valley. Some of the rich vistas and rolling hills are little changed since attracting Jack London, the author who bought his "Beauty Ranch" in 1905 and took up farming: "All I wanted was a quiet place in the country to write and loaf in and get out of Nature that something which we all need, only the most of us don't know it," he wrote. Whether you're going wine tasting, are curious about Sonoma's artisan olive oils, or dedicated to filling your lungs with enough fresh air to get your outdoor fix, Glen Ellen's comfortable pace will almost make you forget there is a busy side to life. A century after he settled here, Jack London would still be at home. Now you can make it yours too ...
