Or just enjoy the lovely walk around the spectacularly shaped limestone boulders in the 'rock forest'.
Visit the 500 year old kauri trees at the nearby AH Reed Memorial Kauri Reserve, with its tree top boardwalk; or walk the river track to the iconic Whangarei Falls; or venture along the Hatea River Walk to the Town Basin where numerous cafe's and restaurants are located.
Whangarei is an 'undiscovered gem' with fabulous beaches, forest walks, city walks, museums, art galleries, 10,000kms of dry stone walls in the area from the extinct volcanic cones, kiwi house, star gazing, good restaurants and shopping.
With a city / rural population of around 80,000 people, Whangarei is the largest city north of Auckland, a 2 hour drive away. We are 1 hour away from Paihia and the Bay of Islands, 1 hour from west coast beaches and only 30 minutes from some beautiful east coast beaches. Great surfing, fishing and swimming.
So Abbey Barn B&B is ideally placed to explore the area. Previous homestay students have mentioned they loved the location. We are so centrally located and there is so much to see and do in this part of the country.
We offer discounts for families and longer stays. Less10% for 3 or more nights. Getting AroundPublic transport by bus in available Monday through Saturday in the city centre.
