The SpaceACCOMMODATION: Originally the Bunker from the Mountaineering Film Set of, "Vertical Limit." Yes watch the film it was an ammunitions bunker storing nitro glycerin on the top of a mountain in Pakistan, in actual fact the film was shot on the top of Mount Earnslaw which you can see in the distance from the deck. The bunker has been flown around New Zealand under a helicopter also appearing on Mt Cook ,with film crew poring over it. Now too heavy to fly as it has been converted into a funky cosy cabin, tiny house style. The setting is in a extremely private 2000m square secret garden with a 10 plus foot hedge on all perimeters, plenty of space for a campervan and tents as well! The basic layout is the main cabin inclusive of; shower/laundry, fire place, kitchen et, lounge area, opening onto a deck adjoining a 1940's caravan (the bedroom, queen size mattress) in a large private garden setting surrounded by a hedge and mountain vistas. For two children or adults there is the option of using the L settee as two single beds in the lounge. Bathroom amenities are basic with a long drop toilet, photo attached, and a hot running indoor shower. There is an out door fire made from the metal bucket of an old digger so you can sit under the stary nights of the New Zealand sky with the warmth and crackle of a fire before you retire to the cabin. There is the option of having extra guests camp in the half acre garden for the additional fee per person. It is not just a very comfortable place to stay but the entire surreal landscape at your back door. Cooking facilities: Gas cook top in main hut and microwave. Out side there is a wood fueled BQ which also be used as a smoke style oven. Plates, glasses, all utensils and cooking pans supplied. Located in the Glenorchy township a short ten minute stroll to the lakes edge and a country style cafe, the "GYC," with the best food ever. They even make their own homemade rye bread and mayonnaise, eggs benni and latte on the deck in the morning or a gourmet pizza and a glass of wine in the evening. Glenorchy is the ultimate in country eclectic communities with only 250 local residence, two pubs, a possum fur shop, petrol station, craft shop, golf course, many tourism based activity businesses, surrounded by farms up the arms of the two glacial fed valleys that feed the head of the lake. There is a small general store but best to do your shopping in Queenstown before you arrive then you can tune out from the world and get down to the basics. It is a farming community where everyone knows each other and pitches in with community spirit a quality that is lacked from mainstream western society. I lived here for over two years and never locked my door once and left my car keys in the ignition. ACTIVITIES: Gate way to the outdoors you can just kick back and read a book OR; Skydive, horse trek, 4wd excursions, fly fishing, sailing on the lake, kayaking, kite surfing, jet boating, canyoning, paragliding, a half hour walk around the wetland or two days walk through to Milford sound, You name it! Glenorchy is a small settlement nestled in spectacular scenery at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu in Otago on New Zealand's south Island. It is approximately 45 kilometres by road or boat from Queenstown, the nearest large town. Glenorchy is a popular tourist spot, close to many tramping tracks. It lies near the borders of Mount Aspiring National Park and Fiordland National Park. The local scenery received worldwide attention when it was used as one of the settings in the first of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. The scene where Boromir was slain and leant near a tree, Lothlórien and Orthanc were a few that were shot in Paradise. Vertical Limit and X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian were also filmed in the area. (URL HIDDEN) Guest AccessThe drive is Opposite the cemetery in Coll st. The key will be hanging inside the door of the caravan for the Bunker. Interaction with GuestsLimited, there are two caretakers available if need be and telephone numbers in the compendium. The Funky Bunker will be ready on your arrival and total privacy is yours. Other Things to NoteI recommend eating at the GYC Cafe
