If you’re looking for a totally secluded and relaxing getaway, then Liffey Mountain Retreat will not disappoint. The place for leaving it all behind ! At Liffey Mountain Retreat, the experience begins when you turn off the highway, meandering through farmland and country townships that usher you to the foothills of the Great Western Tiers. A short ascent through bush on a well maintained 1km private gravel road and, there it is ! "WOW!" will be the first word that slips from your lips when you arrive. You will feel all those everyday tensions drain from your veins. You’ll be impressed by the modern architecture and the expansive rooms, but you’ll be captivated by the view of Dry’s Bluff and the front row seat you have to that vista for the duration of your stay. The rugged crags reach up into the ether and, as if nature hadn’t come up trumps with this display already, three wedge tailed eagles are residents of the property and are frequently seen wheeling majestic arcs in the sky. The retreat itself was built in 2010 by the current owners who desired a house that was sympathetic to its location. All rooms capture that commanding view, the open plan living area in particular, which has windows that reach from floor to soaring ceilings. All you have to do is nestle inside and soak up the atmosphere. For a real treat, venture out and soak in the hot tub just on dusk, as the clouds change a multitude of colours, with the sun setting beyond. Then watch the stars begin to pop out one by one like diamonds in the velvet sky. This will be an experience you will not quickly forget ! The property sprawls 40 acres ensuring your complete privacy. Lush green paddocks surround the house. The outdoors beckon for your exploration. Breathe in the fresh mountain air and go for a walk through temperate rainforest brimming with fascinating rock scapes, mossy waterfalls, and natural tree ferneries. An abundance of Tasmanian native wildlife is right at your back door. Winter can transform the property into a frosty wonderland with snow blanketing the clearing while, indoors, the wood heater and heat pump are ample to keep you cosy. If you're after some added adventure, and you would like to visit key Tasmanian tourist destinations, we can organise direct charter by helicopter from, or to, our property. This can range from wine tours, transport to Cradle Mountain, Freycinet Saffire Resort, a golf trip to Barnbougle or just about anywhere in Tasmania that you can imagine. Liffey Mountain Retreat is a short 30 minute drive from Launceston or Deloraine; 30 minutes to an experience of unparalleled beauty and relaxation in nature’s cradle. THINGS TO DO NEARBY: Beyond Liffey Mountain Retreat are many options for day trips, including: - Visit World Heritage listed Liffey Falls (20 minute drive). - Climb Dry’s Bluff, Tasmania’s hardest day walk. - Explore Oura Oura, Bob Brown’s property now owned by Bush Heritage Trust. - Take in the vista of Great Lake and the Central Highlands (30 minutes drive). - Enjoy Deloraine’s cafes, art galleries and river setting (30 minutes drive). - Go below the surface and explore the Mole Creek Caves to see the glow worms. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Liffey Mountain Retreat is situated at the end of a 1.2km ascending gravel driveway. Under normal conditions a standard vehicle is fine, but occasionally in winter this road can become frosty/snow covered. We ask that you take this into consideration when deciding what kind of vehicle you drive to the retreat. We will, of course, maintain the road throughout the year but we take no responsibility if your choice of wheels results in you being unable to reach your idyllic, mountainside retreat.

It is a truly unique property that continues to create special memories for all who visit. "People respond to the shapes that I make. They enjoy the playfulness and freedom of line, and see the resemblance of natural forms in the designs. They appreciate the skill required to make such shapes from straight timber, following Nature's design rules." Kim Clark - Curved Wood Creations Guest AccessOur guests will have exclusive access to the entire house, and are welcome to explore the rest of the property, including the self-guided walk to the old Nut Garden and into the rainforest. Guests are asked to respect the privacy of the other buildings on the property. Guided tours are available on request. Interaction with GuestsKim Clark and his family live on the property and somebody is usually available to assist guests. They have a strong heritage in environmental protection and sustainable living, and are very keen to share their knowledge and experiences with guests. The NeighborhoodJackeys Marsh has a small community of approximately 80 people scattered throughout the valley. Most of the valley is heavily forested with small farms occupying the clearings. Because Jackeys Marsh is off the state energy grid, it attracts those who seek an alternative and more independent lifestyle. Getting AroundYou will need your own car. There are no buses, trains or any other public transportation in the area. The closest general store is located in Meander which is 6km down the road, with the nearest major town (with a supermarket) being Deloraine, approximately a 20minute drive away. Other Things to NoteThe Roundhouse is entirely off the grid. All electricity comes from a combination of solar power and micro hydro. While this is perfectly sufficient for most regular applications such as charging laptops and watching TV, the system cannot sustain high power items such as hair dryers, irons, or anything that generates heat.
