The SpaceThe Mermaid Inn is a very unique cottage in the village. The interior is modernized, however, original plank flooring still exists in the living area and Master bedroom. It has all the comforts of home, with the feeling of a beach retreat. Fully fenced in yard with privacy allows you to experience the serenity of Grand Marais. Spend your mornings on the porch, coffee and newspaper, chit chat with locals and tourists walking by, or sit peacefully in the back yard enjoying the sunshine and local church bells ringing each morning. Guest AccessGuests have full access to the home. Gas grill and charcoal grill are available. Great fire pit area, wood may be arranged for delivery for additional fee, as well as Kayak and bike rentals on site. Interaction with GuestsI am available 24/7 to my guests. I live approx 1 hr away, but have local women available to meet the guests needs. The NeighborhoodI love the location of the Mermaid. It sits on a very large corner lot, there are no houses that directly contact any of the living space, including the private yard. I love to enjoy the back yard area, while having the availability to visit with locals and tourists walking the village streets. We are 1 block to Lake Superior on one side of the house and 2 blocks from the main entrance of the house.

The SpaceGuests that have stayed here have embraced what this house has to offer. A kitchen equipped for the finest chef, a large unique fireplace, a number of comfortable sitting areas, some higher tech amenities all make for an enjoyable and entertaining opportunity. A convenient 1 block walk to the beach, the bay, and town is all it takes to enjoy a unique small town experience . Or wander the vast undeveloped land and pristine shoreline of Lake Superior surrounding Grand Marais. Guest AccessThe entire house is at your disposal except perhaps a private storage area or two. Interaction with GuestsWe are always happy to help out. When possible we prefer to meet with you upon arrival to familiarize you with the house or answer questions. We are year round residents so can be available a good part of the time. The NeighborhoodThe Lake Wind House is located in the "Beach Community" portion of Grand Marais which is on the shore of Lake Superior. The Township Marina on the bay is across the street and downtown is a short distance up the hill to the south. Behind the property is township property. A ball diamond, community center , playground and campground are located there. This property has a general feel of removal and privacy even though there are so many things to do within walking distance. Getting AroundGrand Marais is located remotely from larger towns or cities. It is accessed from the South via highway M77 north out of Seney. Some call this stretch of M77 the "largest private drive in the world" as it goes to Grand Marais and nowhere else and there is not much along the way but forest. Grand Marais is accessed from east and west via H58 which is paved from Grand Marais west to Munising but unpaved heading east. Be sure to stock up on gas and supplies at the Bayshore Market if leaving town when your tank is low as there is no other stations closer than 25 miles. Other Things to NoteGrand Marais is a very small town and provides us locals pretty well. But it is advised that you bring some of your out of the ordinary supplies with you. We provide an overflow refrigerator and ample cabinet space at the house for a bit of stocking up. A weekly town farmers market in the summer is a great place to look for locally grown vegetables and baked goods. We also provide a reasonable amount paper goods, trash bags etc. to get you started.

(Bay Watch also has two additional fold out beds and a queen futon for a small additional fee, but the cabin is only 612 square feet so use of the extra bedding will make it a tight squeeze. See the guest guide below.) At Bay Watch the beds are all made up for you and the bath linen, kitchen linen and kitchen items are all onsite ready for you to use. The Bay Watch Cabin's deck is great for relaxing and taking in the view, or for having a romantic evening dinner. There is a fire pit in the back yard and it has a grill plate that swings over so you can cook your steaks over the wood fire. There is also a park charcoal grill for your use. The Cabin is a very short walk to the center of town, and beach access road is about 100 yards to the west (there is also another road to the beach to the east). Bay Watch is set back one lot from the beachfront, on the water side of the road, with no houses or roads between the Bay Watch and the water to block your view, only a few trees for a wind break. The kitchen is compact with a medium size fridge and a new gas electronic range (not yet depicted in the photos), and the laundry has a stacked front loader washer and dryer for your use. The house also has a large gas heater which easily caters to the whole home. The living room comes appointed with a flat screen television, cable television, queen futon chair, a large swivel arm chair and a retro white leather swivel chair. There are also a variety of games for adults and children to use for those times when you are indoors or TV is not your thing. Please come and take in the peaceful surrounds of Grand Marais with one awesome view. CHANGE OVER DAY: From late June to early September weekly (7 nights) bookings from Friday to Friday. All other times a 2 night minimum with change over day open. OPEN: Currently open from May to late October. Closed November to April. INTERNET: No WiFi in the Bay Watch Cabin. GUEST GUIDE: 2 renters = perfect size 4 renters = almost perfect size except you'll have to share a bathroom 5 renters = getting a little tight as 3 people will share a bedroom 6 renters = you'll need at least one additional sleeping item made up ($30 per item), and the bathroom use will be a little inconvenient, plus there will not be enough living room and dining room seats for you all 7-9 renters = additional sleeping item makeups needed (2 fold outs and 1 futon available @$30 per item), really inconvenient bathroom use, and not enough seating 10 renters = can't do it Ten things to do around Grand Marais: 1. The Ridge Road Cabin is one of the nicest all-year cabins/cottages available in the area and is open year round. The Cabin is fully equipped with furniture, linen, fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace, cable TV and DVD players, as well as an IPOD and MP3 speaker docking station. The Cabin also has a collection of movies, books and games for those times spent indoors. The Ridge Road Cabin is located on an acre, on a no through road, with lots of seclusion and privacy, and just a short walk from town. It is peaceful and quiet and it is surrounded on three sides by trees and woods. When you wake in the morning, in the main bedroom king size bed, look out across the ridge and trees to the Lake Superior's skyline. You may catch a glimpse of Lake Superior's water after the leaves have fallen in the fall. Sunsets can be magnificent from the second floor master bedroom at anytime of the year as you get the low sky colors at dusk. You might also enjoy sitting on the deck watching the sunset or the deer making their way through the woods, or sitting by the fire pit at night with little, except firelight, to interfere with your night sky. The environmentally friendly cabin is all electric, which means you get just clean Upper Peninsula Michigan air. The gas fireplace is for extra ambiance and back-up heat. The beds have soft white comforters and warm fleece blankets, quilts or coverlets. In summer, spring and autumn, laying in a hammock beside the deck, and reading a book while waiting for your dinner to grill, is always a favorite. The cabin has a large gas grill on the deck as well as a fire pit in an open grassy area. There is also a small charcoal grill available for use. The driveway is paved and a good size for boats and snowmobiles and trailers. A large attached lockable garage can house the car or motorcycles. When your car or motorbike is not parked, take a drive or ride down to Sable Lake or the dunes or to the start of the many walking trails in the area. The Cabin is center to accessing the snow mobile trails, both east and west of the town. In summer, it is just a short stroll down to the lake for a swim. The Cabin's location is approximately 0.38 of a mile from the lake as the crow flies, and is approximately 0.5 mile from the lake and center of town by road. There are a number of quaint restaurants and bars in town within easy walking distance, if you like to walk. The West Bay Diner and Delicatessen has an excellent chef who makes fresh bread and dishes made from scratch, and it is all contained in an old fashioned diner facade. The Dune Saloon makes a mean pizza and some very good beer,, and is the favorite watering hole for the locals. The Breakwall Bakery and Cafe is also popular with visitors. You'll relax at the Ridge Road Cabin. INTERNET: No WiFi in the Ridge Road Cabin.
