    ON THE SHORES OF PORT ABERCROMBIE - amazing clear clear waters and a fishing and snorkling paradise. A STORY BOOK COTTAGE - This place wraps you up in the winter or lets you bask in the ambiance of the bush and ocean on the large deck in summer. It has views from every room and is as sunny and light as you can get. Not that it is small - 3 levels leading from the lounge living dining floor up the bathroom laundry area and then up to your seaview bedrooms. A COUNTRY KITCHEN that only makes delicious food. From the stove top coffee making gear to the awesome woodrange this kitchen has everything you will need. An LPG gas stove and oven if you don't want the wood range going. You will enjoy cooking and looking out at the small stream and bush, or turn and gaze out to sea while you stir your coffee. A COSY LOUNGE for you curl up with one of the 'books galore' or watch SKY TV or a DVD JUST 40 METRES OR SO down to the shore where you can fish, boat, swim, snorkel or just laze. Swimming with a mask and snorkel opens up a world of wonder as the fish life is superb - right there in front of your holiday home. Or take the dinghy (provided) and row out to the little island off the coast to explore. Some people bring a small outboard or you may be able to hire one, so you can motor around to Port Fitzroy for the morning paper or the takeaways. TRAMPS GALORE abound on Barrier - if you want to get out and about you can go to the the famous Kauri dams or walk into the thermal stream at Whangaparara, or just go for an hours tramp from your holiday home to an idyllic isolated south pacific beach. LEAVE YOUR HIGH HEELS AT HOME - Unfortunately wheel chairs won't work either as our home is hidden and private - a water access only property - come in by dinghy (provided) or walk the shore (20 min) or water shuttle.       Built in 1901, Fitzroy House is the original homestead and is set within the 240 ha pest fenced Glenfern Sanctuary. The much loved home of the Bouzaid family, Fitzroy House is offered for the first time for families to share and experience this unique location. This recently renovated homestead offers spacious open living areas with bay windows opening to a large deck, overlooking Fitzroy Harbour. There is a functional modern kitchen complete with gas oven and Stanley wood oven. The dining area adjoins the kitchen and has seating for up to 10. There are five large bedrooms (one with ensuite); two bedrooms have queen beds, the others have singles. The main bathroom has a shower, bath tub, wash hand-basin and toilet, and the master bedroom's ensuite has a shower, wash hand-basin and toilet. A short stroll from the house accesses the private wharf with floating dock and boat shed which is available for your use. A mooring may be available on request.         1 minute walk to the beautiful Awana Beach, The Red Barn House is a contemporary kitset home, with a distinctive barn-red cladding. The home has three easy care bedrooms, and half of the house is open plan kitchen, dining and living with views to the Awana Valley. Lush native plants grace the gardens and teems with native birdlife - tuis, kakas, wood pigeon, rails all abound in and around the native flax, pohutakawa, and puka plantings. Located right across the road from Awana beach, the location is private and secluded, yet close to the beach, the Awana estuary, 5 minutes walk to adjacent Pohutakawa Beach, and with easy access by car to Claris, Harataonga Beach, Windy Canyon Walk, and the stunning Tramline Track 'Waterfall' Walk. Great surfing, swimming, fishing, walking just minutes away. Awana is a regular destination for dolphin pods, Orca and migrating whales. House was used for 3 months by the producers of Castaway in 2007. A comfortable easy care rental property. Special conditions: Notes: - A TV is provided for watching videos and DVDs only.           The newly refurbished, self contained Glenfern Cottage is positioned overlooking Pt Fitzroy and is set in a private location among mature gardens and lawns. You have immediate access to the private wharf, floating deck and boat shed down the path in front of the cottage, where kayaks are available for your use. The Pt Fitzroy store and boatclub/pub are a brief 10 minute walk (or kayak) away, and other day and o/n walks are easily accessed from the property. This is an ideal holiday home for those with a boat for fishing and exploring the harbour and coastline, or as a base from which to explore the island on foot or by vehicle. Glenfern Cottage and Fitzroy House are both located within Glenfern Sanctuary; a 240 ha fenced, pest controlled restoration project where you can experience some of New Zealand's wildlife at its best. Guided or self guided walks are available which include access to the crown of a Kauri tree via a swing bridge. Special conditions: Glenfern cottage is situated immediately next to Fitzroy House. Fitzroy House is the original homestead on the property and has been extensively renovated and refurbished; offering spacious living areas, functional modern kitchen, 5 large bedrooms (2 with ensuites) and separate bathroom.             Kaka Cottage at Nikau Heights, is nestled in the bush with amazing sea views and a 5-10 minute walk to Tryphena's great amenities of the beautiful Pah Beach , Wild Rose Cafe, the Currach Irish Pub and a great general store. Kaka Cottage is well supplied for self-catering and has 12 volt solar power for lighting and refridgeration and gas for cooking and water heating. Kaka Cottage is named after the native parrot (the Kaka) a regular visitor to the area. Special conditions: No smoking.
