All you hear are the sounds of nature and the occasional train echoing from the river valley, which you can see off the back in the winter when the leaves are gone:) You'll have access to the whole cabin. I will interact with you to give you the keys and directions. no neighborhood. no public transit. Guest AccessYou'll have access to the whole cabin. Interaction with GuestsI will interact with you to give you the keys and directions. The Neighborhoodno neighborhood. Getting Aroundno public transit. Other Things to Note*When you arrive, please make sure the well breaker is switched to ON. Breaker box is behind wood stove. *Please bring your own bath towels, queen sheets and pillow cases for the master bedroom and two sets of full sheets for the beds in the loft. Also, I personally don't drink the water. So a couple gallons of water is needed. *Please flush only when absolutely necessary *IMPORTANT: conserve all water usage as much as you can. Quick showers, use paper plates if you can.. etc. My well is not very deep and if you use a lot of water- you will run out. It can take hours to a day for the water to come back. For this purpose and drinking water, please make sure you bring gallons of water with you for back up! *Please contact and remind me to give you exact directions- map apps take you to the wrong place!! *I do not have trash pick up. Please bring trash bags and be prepared to take your trash with you. * When you leave- switch the well breaker to OFF, unplug microwave/toaster. And please set the heat to 50, or make sure it is off when the season permits. Same goes for the AC units. *FYI I personally do not hunt, but there is antique taxidermy in the cabin. Just letting you know for anyone that may be uncomfortable with it.

Only three miles by car from the house, explore trails and streams, golf at a challenging championship golf course at 2300 feet, designed by golf course designer Robert Trent Jones Sr., ride horses, swim in a lake in summer, or enjoy a delicious breakfast or dinner at Cacapon State Park. Within forty minutes, shop at national-chain store in Winchester or an outlet mall in Hagerstown. Directions: 230 Breakaway Lane, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411: From the north (PA Turnpike/I70) watch for “Ridge” on a green sign about three miles south of Cacapon State Park as you drive on Rt. 522 about 9 miles south from Berkeley Springs, WV 25411. As soon as you see the sign, signal, slow down, and then turn right into a gravel parking area. At the north end past the mailboxes, follow the Breakneck Dr. gravel road up the mountain. Three times you’ll have to keep right or turn right. The gravel road is single lane and narrow, so please be slow and cautious. The last right onto Breakaway Lane comes soon after Breakeven Lane. As you go down the hill and then curve up the J-shaped Breakaway Lane, you’ll see the log cabin mountain house through the trees on the right side of the gravel road. The house number "230" is on a big rock on the right side of the road just after the red reflectors marking the driveway entrance. You can find this map using “Breakneck Lane Berkeley Spring, WV” in (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) (URL HIDDEN) (but not in (URL HIDDEN) You can click on "Guidebook" on the left panel of this screen to see the (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) map. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to enjoy the house and amenities and all 20 acres of rocks, trees and hills surrounding the house. Interaction with GuestsWe would like to meet guests, but we often can't because our permanent home (a two-bedroom condo) is a couple of hours away. But our local friends and managers, Jennifer and W.J. Wills, are nearby if any problems or questions should arise. The NeighborhoodThe natural calm and quiet are unusually restful and renewing. Getting AroundThe house is near major highways but far enough away for cleaner air and mostly natural sounds and surroundings. Other Things to NoteThe house is small enough for a romantic get-away but large enough for a family, reunion, social and business group. Wood ceilings and distant green mountain views contrast with accessible Internet, appliances and conveniences. Large group gathering areas (the wood stove great room, kitchen dining area, upper deck) contrast with multiple smaller quieter areas (hot tub screened porch, front deck). The house is well-equipped for all types of cooking (Cuisinart food processor, griddle, toasters, coffee maker, electric teakettle, casserole dishes, small to large pots and pans) and dining (ample plates and dinnerware, goblets and water glasses).

1820 two story secluded log cabin for an intimate and romantic vacation retreat providing delightful accommodations. "Up the mountain and back in time" Historic Cabin at Gobblers' Knob, perched on a peaceful mountain top at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley near Berkeley Springs, takes its name from the wild turkeys that roam on the property. This intimate and romantic vacation retreat is conveniently located 100 miles from Washington D.C. and Baltimore, MD; less than 200 miles from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PA. The secluded cabin has been lovingly restored and meticulously preserved to its 1820's roots and is tastefully decorated with furnishings that reflect the historic charm of the period. Furnishings include antiques from the 1820 - 1840 period, but modern amenities have been added for comfort and convenience. Boasting a large front porch, the home begs for company to share its breathtaking view of the beautiful surrounding countryside. Gobblers' Knob has been featured in regional magazines, local newspapers, and on national television on the Home and Garden Network. The two-story home provides delightful accommodations. The first floor includes a separate dining room with an immense wood burning stone fireplace and a living room with a full-sized sleeper sofa. The kitchen is fully modern, equipped with a microwave oven and other time-saving amenities. Across the hall from the full bathroom is the R and R (Romance and Relaxation) room, featuring a two-person whirlpool bath. The second floor features a master bedroom with a king-sized bed and a second bedroom with a set of twin beds. There is also a charming sitting room between the bedrooms. For your convenience, there is also a washer and dryer in the first-floor mudroom. Wireless Internet Access. Your favorite pastime in the summer could be relaxing in the hammock in the woods or on the swing on the front porch; watching deer, raccoons, foxes, rabbits, ground hogs, turkeys, an occasional black bear, a variety of birds, and other wildlife; or enjoying a meal at the picnic table in the woods. The fireplace beckons on crisp fall evenings and winter days. Picture yourself rocking to your heart's content in front of the huge fireplace in the keeping room with a bowl of popcorn and a complimentary cup of hot chocolate. On rainy days you might enjoy choosing a book from the bookshelves to read while you listen to the rain pattering on the tin roof. The surrounding area provides a wealth of things to do and see. Cacapon Resort State Park is five minutes away for hiking, sight-seeing, horseback riding, boating, swimming, fishing, tennis, nature walks, and golf at the Robert Trent Jones Championship Golf Course. History abounds in the historic town of Berkeley Springs, a favorite summer destination of George Washington. The Ice House, our arts center, often has special exhibits, theater productions, and art for sale. After all, we are one of the 35 best small arts towns in America. Our vintage theater keeps us entertained with the latest movies and their famous popcorn that will keep you coming back for more. Rent a sofa for fifty cents and relax in style. Whether your visit is for simple serenity and seclusion or you plan to explore the many attractions and activities available nearby, your time spent at Gobblers' Knob will surely tempt you back for another visit. Celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries always come with a complimentary bottle of wine or sparkling cider. We are always happy to encourage a celebration and visiting the Historic Cabin at Gobblers' Knob is worthy of celebrating. The cabin sets at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley atop a knob snuggled between Cacapon Mountain and Sleepy Creek Mountain. Indian Run and Sleepy Creek meander nearby through working farms that produce corn and hay. It is secluded, heavy forested and quiet. At night due to the absence of city lights, the stars provide a dazzling display with The Milky Way being the main attraction.

The SpaceYou get our 450 sq ft. cottage, and huge 10' deck, all to your self. There is a separate bedroom, and bathroom, along with the main room. With a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher) it is easy to bring your own food and prepare it here. We have a full compliment of dishes, silverware, and utensils, along with lots of condiments. What ever you would find in your own kitchen. The bedroom has a queen sized bed, the loft has two singles, and the bench in the main room becomes a bed when the bolster is removed. In addition we have a blow up queen, and two blow up singles. We can actually sleep 9 but that would be very crowded. 4 is comfortable, 6 is tight. We now have Wifi, including Netflix and Hulu. Please be aware that this is a cabin in the woods. If you love nature, this is your place. Guest AccessWhen you stay, you get the cottage to yourself, you also have the use of the pond and kayaks. We have 10 miles of trails through our woods and you are welcome to hike through them. On our ridge in the woods we have erected a wonderful tree house. You are welcome to visit and spend time "Forest Bathing". It is a wonderful place to relax and get close to nature. Interaction with GuestsWe ask that you call or text before you arrive (when you get to Breezewood or Hancock) so that we can greet you at the bike shop take you down to the cottage which is a 1/4 mile further, and show you around, we live on the property and are always available via texting for any questions. We will check up on you to make sure that everything is going well, but we normally like to give people their privacy. If you want a bit more company, let us know. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is unique because it doesn't exist. It is just you, the pond and the woods. We have neighbors, but you can't see or hear them. This is a get away place. Getting AroundWe are so far from public transportation, you can hardly imagine. We are 8 miles off either I-70 or I-68, but really in the back woods. If you really want to visit but don't have a car we can get you from Bedford, or Cumberland. Bedford is on the PA Turnpike and accessible by bus, while Cumberland has Amtrak access. Other Things to NoteBreakfast is your choice of pastries, bagels, English muffins, cereal, or you can prepare our eggs fresh from our pasture raised chickens (best you will ever have). We will also provide fruit and vegetables in season from our orchard and garden. You don't need to bring water (please!), ours is excellent, so much better than bottled, don't bring eggs, we will give you up to a dozen (2 per person per day) of the best eggs you will ever have, (If you are here a week we will cover you). We are 6 miles from the closest restaurant, and 12 or 18 miles from the ones we recommend. If you are coming on the PA Turnpike from the east, Breezewood has no grocery stores, you must bring food before you get there, if you are coming from the west, Bedford and Everett have several stores, if you are coming on I-70 from the east, stop in Hancock, from I-68 from the west, stop in Cumberland. Please keep this in mind, but we are very convenient if you bring your own food. Because of our location with a pond and forest, a septic system wasn't possible. So we have a Hi-Tech, sanitary, composing toilet. It is easy to use, and we take care of everything. If this makes you uncomfortable, you may want to pass on our place. Our media center allows you to bring your own music and games. You can listen inside and outside on our deck. We now have internet and WiFi at the cottage. There is Netflix and Hulu+! We have 75+ movies, mostly on BluRay.
