The SpaceFor an accurate picture of this time of year, think comfy autumn camping! Our yurt is located behind our home, across a large terrace and then beyond our garden but the outlook is very private and scenic. Stroll down the hill and across the fields right outside the yurt door. It can be chilly at night this time of year and if it gets warm during the day, it warms up very quickly. The woodstove warms things up A LOT but is not airtight and will not last overnight unless fed every few hours, but time in the yurt is still delightful, even in cold weather. Owners will help with woodstove upon arrival as needed seasonally and in the morning and likely in the earlier evening. This is a 20 ft yurt with light wooden floor and beautiful king-sized bed with birch pole frame. Bring your own sleeping bags, some minimal additional bedding provided. I have light blankets, pillows, sheets, and one thicker duvet. No running water but tested well water from main house provided as needed, no refrigeration but a cooler can be arranged, no meals, but hot water carafe, tea and gluten free great granola are in stock at the yurt. There are bureaus, a small table and folding chairs, and side board. Watch the stars and clouds sail by through the clear dome. This yurt has a low door, so taller people will need to duck to get in, but there is plenty of head room inside. The door opens up onto some stone steps that flow to the field next to our beautiful stonewall. Toilet facilities consist of a clean, fresh, odor free sawdust bucket system outhouse. Think very comfy camping more than total glamping and you will be pleasantly surprised! Keep in mind yurts are like tents - not soundproof, so quieter visitors are appreciated. Come try this gorgeous place, especially if you want to see what yurt life is like. Guest AccessYou will be able to walk anywhere in the 87 acres of fields and woods as well as on the neighboring nature center land. You are welcome to dine at our picnic table and sit in the chairs on the grassy terrace. You may visit over the fences (electric - be careful!) with our goats, sheep, and chickens. You can park in the driveway and take a very short walk to the yurt across the garden. We prefer guests to use the outhouse. If you need some food storage, we can provide a cooler. Longer term tenants can work out additional arrangements if needed. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to greet you and get you settled. Depending on the day and time, we may be able to give you a brief farm tour. Someone is home most of the time, but we are out and about throughout the week. We are happy to provide ideas for hikes and local activities. The NeighborhoodWe live on a wonderful road with great people in a town full of musicians, artists, nature enthusiasts, and lots of good food. You can go on fantastic hikes, bike rides, cross-country skis and swims within 15-20 minute drives. There are museums, Rudyard Kipling's house, the Tasha Tudor museum, the famous New England Center for Circus Arts, the incredible New England Youth Theater, and many other cultural wonders right near by. Here is a link to a trail guide for Brattleboro: (URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundYou will need your own car to get around. There are local busses, trains, and taxis more in the center of town. You can get a Taxi from Brattleboro Taxi to pick you up right at the Amtrak station, which is in town only a 15-20 minute drive away. Other Things to NoteHeadlamps are a good thing to bring if you have them no matter what time of year but we do have solar lights leading past the outhouse and to the yurt. Our road is dirt and hilly, so in winter/mud season you will need good tires. The yurt will be cold on the floor in winter and the fire will need tending at night. Winter use is best for those up for more of a winter camping experience. You can ski right out the door for some great back country skiing and there are great trails very nearby.
