The SpaceStudio apartment is in a quiet hills location, a self contained part of a 50s' stone and brick residence, faithfully being renovated to retain that 50s' feel and surrounded by beautiful garden. A four year old Aussie Shepherd female dog (Betts) is always on hand to greet guests Guest AccessThe Studio has it's own access and although listed as a 'Private room' consists of living, and a sleeping area and also its own bathroom....(no running into strangers in the hall heading to a communal bath/toilet) For comfort the Studio is fully air conditioned with a ceiling cassette split type air conditioning unit and a heated wall panel for totally silent heating through the night. There are limited kitchen facilities which incorporate a bench and cupboards, fridge, electric hotplate, fry pan, toaster, electric kettle with all crockery and cutlery supplied, but we don't encourage full-on meal preparation in the Studio because we want it to smell ( and be) nice and fresh for incoming guests. There are full breakfast condiments available including tea (both black and green), coffee, toast and three different spreads. Three different cereals, milk, butter, ample fruit, eggs and bacon supplied.....and anything else to order. There are even a few beers in the fridge at no charge. If major cooking is required guests are welcome to use the house kitchen. There is also a great, well lit, 4 burner hooded barbecue in the rear garden which all guests are welcome to use. There is a digital TV with USB, SD card and DVD facilities, an electric queen size bed which includes a massage function. In any accommodation, a good quality comfortable crispy clean bed is the most important thing!! An extra 12cm (5 inches) in length has been added into this bed to ensure great comfort for tall guests. The Lounge area is equipped with a Sofa/Bed to accommodate another adult or two children if required Guests have the use of the residence rear garden with a choice of two outdoor settings and bicycles should they wish to cycle the excellent parks and linear tracks in this area. The laundry is a shared facility, but in the Studio building. WiFi is available but signal strength is a bit patchy inside the facility at the moment. I will be rectifying this but anywhere in the rear garden signal strength is good. Interaction with GuestsGuests have access to as much, or as little, intrusion from the hosts as they want. Obviously we are proud of our facility and want our guests to really enjoy their stay. We are always on hand should there be any problems to iron out. The NeighborhoodMt Barker is a town of about 20,000 people located in the Adelaide hills, accessed by a free-way about half an hour from the centre of Adelaide. This location is ideal for guests coming from the eastern states who don't wish to tackle the traffic of Adelaide at the end of a days drive. Being a smaller community the atmosphere is much friendlier than the larger population centres. All facilities are here including all main banks and supermarket chains, Harvey Norman, Spotlight, K Mart, BCF, Government departments inc 'Centrelink' and numerous speciality shops, cafes and restaurants plus the heritage listed Auchendarroch function centre and Wallis multi screen cinema complex. Mt Barker is also home to 'Steamranger'....the steam railway preservation society with currently 4 steam locomotives, carriages and a dozen diesel locomotives and railcars. Regular full day steam rail trips are offered from Mt Barker to the Fluerieu Peninsular (climate permitting). Being a cool climate wine producing area many vineyards are within a few Kms of Mt Barker all offering tastings and some with restaurant facilities. The famous German hills tourist town of Hahndorf is 5 Kms from Mt Barker Getting AroundThere is an excellent bus service from Mt Barker to the centre of Adelaide with services leaving every half hour throughout most of the day. Both of the major bus stations in the town feature a 'Park n Ride' facility with parking for plenty of vehicles and good disabled access both for cars and buses. There is a good bus service from the airport to Mt Barker with one change of bus along the way or, for no hassles and a moderate fee, a personal pick-up and drop-off can be arranged for our guests. Other Things to NoteMt Barker, being situated in a 'bowl' in the surrounding hills has a very tranquil environment. We rarely see the massive heat of the plains and it is never cold enough to snow. The town appears to be less affected by any wind than many other areas. Generally once the sun sets any breeze drops to zero. Our accommodation borders a large park with a lake and many kilometres of walking or cycling trails.

The SpaceAlthough we are marketing our space as The Red Shed, it is very comfortable and pleasant inside and not "shed like" at all. It has a stunning view over the property, with horses roaming in the paddocks nearby. There are also chooks, goats and dogs - it really is a farm experience. Inside our Red Shed, is a large bathroom, lounge, two bedrooms, one main (queen bed) and one smaller room (queen bed). There is a small room which can be used as a second lounge space or children's area. This space has the single bed in it and if you are booking for 6 people, there is another single mattress we put down on the floor. This can either then be moved during the day or left in situ. As a rule, space wise we really only say we accommodate for 5 but I have had so many request for the 6th space that this is our compromise. (I would like to note here that we have a small unfenced dam, approximately 200m out of sight of the accommodation but if you bring children you need to be aware of this. It is only thigh high and empty in summer). Guest AccessGuests have the whole studio, their own private outdoor patio area, and access to the beauty of the property itself! Parking is right outside the door so unpacking the car is not a problem. WiFi - Unfortunately it is not available, it is apparently the tin of the shed which causes the issues of access. If you bring your own wi-fi / hotspot there is no problem. Interaction with GuestsMy family and I enjoy people! So we look forward to welcoming you and we will go out of our way to make sure you have the best possible time you can. The NeighborhoodHistoric Hahndorf is the oldest Germanic settlement in Australia and the delightful township of Hahndorf today is a testament to the original hardworking pioneers. If you love wine, then discover the Adelaide Hills wine region from our abode. There are more than 40 cellar doors, hidden amongst vineyards and fruit orchards. The cool climate and good rainfall makes it perfect for producing Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc. For those who enjoy a hearty walk, (or very easy drive!) within 2 kms are The Lane Vineyard, Nepenthe, Hahndorf Hill and Shaw and Smith. All producing stunning award winning wines and serving fabulous local food while boasting spectacular views of the Adelaide Hills. There are also many specialty shops, restaurants and hotels in the township - it can take a day or so to explore Hahndorf alone! There is plenty of history in Hahndorf - and just a walk down the main street brings it alive. A very quick overview: On the 28th of December 1838 the ship "Zebra" carrying 187 German Lutheran immigrants (38 families) arrived in Port Adelaide. These families were from Prussia (modern Germany) and they were escaping religious persecution in their homeland. The ship's captain Dirk Hahn, a Dane, had grown to respect the passengers and promised to help them achieve their goal of settling and farming together. He was able to negotiate a parcel of land in the Adelaide Hills. They named the town in his honour. Hahn – dorf being “village” in German. Many of the beautiful old buildings and original stonework survive to this day, and Hahndorf is an artful amalgamation of old meets new architecture. Getting AroundHaving your own transport is probably the best way to go. However, we are situated about 1/2 km from the nearest bus stop which will take you directly to Adelaide city or from Adelaide city. You can catch public transport to Hahndorf from the airport if necessary. We can always pick up guests from Hahndorf or by prior arrangement from the airport (there would be a small charge for this service). A normal taxi costs between $80 - $100 from the airport. There is ample parking at The Red Shed. Other Things to NoteThe Adelaide Hills region, while only being 25km from the city centre offers a charmed world of its own. The countryside is storybook-pretty. It is dappled in light, dotted with quaint villages and bustling towns. Use the Adelaide Hills as a base for more touring. Adelaide, the Barossa and the Fleurieu Peninsula are all within an hour’s drive. Just get in the car and see where you end up.

Your spacious bathroom includes a luxurious spa and gives a sweeping view over the rear paddocks. The front balcony provides a wonderful view over the gorgeous English style garden.
