The SpaceWeeks are Saturday to Saturday and only some months include partial week availability. Crate trained pets negotiable. Please don't bring your pet without asking us. Weekend and Holiday prices are calculated for families or adult groups of up to four. If adult groups larger than 4 please inquire. We are not a bed and breakfast, so bring breakfast foods. There will be some things like spices, salt and pepper, coffee filters, a variety of things left by other renters. Our cozy, rustic pine cottages and farmhouse are surrounded by forest and field on Hancock Point. Blackberry Cottage is tucked under the trees and Blueberry Cottage overlooks the pasture and blueberry field. They are within easy walking distance of the shore. We are located in Hancock, Maine, halfway between Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park at Schoodic Point. The secluded location is close to the village of Hancock in an excellent area for a vacation with hiking biking, kayaking and berry picking. Step out the door and take a peaceful, ten-minute walk to Jellison Cove on Frenchman's Bay or explore the nearby woods and fields. The cottages are fully furnished and provided with a simple and complete kitchen, a snug combination living dining area, two bedrooms downstairs, one with a double bed and one with two bunks, plus a large sleeping loft upstairs with a queen size bed, a twin size bed and a TV for watching movies. Both cottages sleep up to seven people, have large picnic tables on the covered porches, and are ideal for couples or families. A crib is available upon request. The cottages are equipped with gas grills on the porch. We will supply a radio, a television and DVD player for viewing movies, alarm clock, all bed linens and towels, gas grill, washer and dryer, ironing board and iron. The cottages are heated with a fireplace wood stove and firewood is provided. Prices quoted are an estimate and vary greatly from high season to low season. Weekly, nightly price for whole weeks is better than the nightly price with 3 day minimum. Please ask. Guest AccessEnjoy the beauty of coastal Maine. Bike to the Frenchman Bay Nature Conservancy where you can hike, kayak, or picnic. Take a ride around the point and see the wonderful old historic houses, visit the library and Carter's Beach, all here on the point. Drive to nearby Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island (40 minutes) or to Acadia National Park on Schoodic point (about 25 minutes in the opposite direction) and enjoy the quintessential Maine coastal villages along the way. Shop or go to the movies in Bar Harbor (45 minutes) or Ellsworth (20 minutes). Interaction with GuestsRandy and I live on the property. I respect peoples privacy, but we're available if anything is needed. Check in at the Cottage is at 3 p.m. or after. You may arrive at any time but we do go to bed at around 10 p.m. Check out is at 10 a.m. or earlier. The NeighborhoodThe little town of Hancock, Maine boasts some fabulous fine dining restaurants (Crocker House, Le Domaine), and several more modest restaurants with great local and ethnic offerings. Or just eat in on the cottage's covered porch and enjoy a peaceful evening watching the sun set and listening to bird song. Pick Maine blueberries and blackberries right outside your door in July and August. Bike rentals, kayak/canoe rentals ("see other info." below), and guided tours are available nearby. For swimming, boating, hiking, and mountain climbing, visit Maine's Public Reserve lands on pristine Donnell and Flanders ponds, and explore the Frenchman Bay Conservancy (see links at bottom). Tennis courts and sailing lessons are available not far from the cottage, by prior arrangement. A public beach, historic houses, and a quaint summer library are within easy biking distance. Getting AroundHancock is fairly rural but we aren't too far from good sized shopping areas. There is no public transportation here, but it is a great place to ride bikes. These are “housekeeping cottages.” That means you supply food, supplies, and paper products. We will leave a roll of T.P. and a bar of soap. The kitchen is small but complete, including gas range, microwave, coffee maker, etc., as well as pots pans, dishes and utensils. Also, a gas grill outside. We supply all linens and towels. There is a washer and a dryer. Feel free to use or eat anything left behind in the cottage. Use caution while opening and closing sash windows. They are heavy and fall down quickly. Use the brass fastener or the stick to keep them open. If you need to have the high up window opened or closed, Suzanne will be glad to come over and do it. Do not try to open or close it yourself. We will keep you supplied with firewood and kindling. If you need more, don’t hesitate to let us know. If you need help with the woodstove, let us know. Garbage goes outside in hutch. Feel free to leave the porch light on. For a quick injection of heat you can turn on the gas oven (use the overhead fan to keep heat downstairs). Please remember to turn the oven off before you leave. You can pick berries on the road or in the pasture. Feel free to walk past the other cottages and into the field. There is a walking path mowed. If you notice that the plants are droopy please water them. I will leave a couple full watering cans. There is no need to lock the door when you leave for good. The SpaceThe house is a quiet spot, tucked in the woods off of the main road that stretches the length of Hancock Point. Walk or drive to the pier for kayaking, swimming (it's cold!) or meandering past beautiful summer cottages. Guest AccessGuests will have the house to themselves: three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, living room/dining room, laundry room, screened porch, deck, grassy yard. Interaction with GuestsThe owners of the home have asked their next door neighbors, Sarah and David to manage the rental of their home. This includes managing pre-arrival communications and answering questions during guests' stay. Sarah and David work full-time and have younger children so they're pretty busy. They're available to answer questions but definitely won't be hovering and invading the peace and quiet of your vacation. The NeighborhoodHancock Point sits just across Frenchman Bay from Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. The views of Mount Desert Island from Hancock Point are gorgeous. There is a year-round community on Hancock Point that swells in the summertime as folks return to summer homes that have been in their families for generations. The small Hancock Point Library opens for the summer months, as do the village clay tennis courts (fees apply) and the Hancock Point Chapel. Crocker House Restaurant and Inn sits near the end of Hancock Point and operates nine months of the year; there are other restaurants within a ten minute drive of the house. There is a lovely piece about Hancock Point in The New York Times. (URL HIDDEN) Ellsworth is the nearest city (a city by Maine's standards; it feels more like a small town if you're coming from a place like Boston or Chicago) with two large supermarkets, a natural food store, live performance venue, an LL Bean outlet, and other commerce and culinary adventures. While a swim across the bay to Mount Desert Island is just two miles, it's a 25 mile drive to the entrance of MDI's Acadia National Park and a 28 mile drive to Bar Harbor. You can also explore the Schoodic Peninsula, a section of Acadia National Park that rests on the mainland near Winter Harbor, Maine. Schoodic is a 25 mile drive from Hancock. In essence, Hancock Point is the halfway point between Mount Desert Island's section of Acadia National Park and the Schoodic Peninsula's section of Acadia National Park. Other Things to NoteYou can rent bikes in Ellsworth or Bar Harbor for biking around Hancock Point or Acadia. A local kayak guide offers trips from Hancock Point and there are lots of kayak tours and outfitters on Mount Desert Island. Hikes, walks, and swims are abundant. Check out Acadia National Park's website for information on trails, carriage roads and programming.

The SpaceThe house is a duplex and your unit is on the second floor. We use the first floor unit seasonally and may or may not be there during your stay. We live in Boston and this is our summer residence near our family. The house was originally built in 1880 and was a Post Office until the early 1990's when it was renovated. Hence it has beautiful, original hardwood floors. There is a large driveway and a small side and backyard. The upstairs unit has been made very accommodating for our guests with all the basic amenities of home. We stay there with our daughter, so it is a child friendly house. Guest AccessGuests have access to the 2nd floor unit only. Entrance is on the right side of the building towards the back, up the stairs to the second floor. Key will be left in the kitchen. Door is left open when guests send an ETA. Interaction with GuestsOnly interaction would potentially be at the arrival and/or departure, altho if we are downstairs you are welcome to come say hello, we are friendly! However, there is no expectation that we interact. We respect our guests privacy. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is mixed. Sullivan is in Downeast Maine with lots of locals nearby along with a few summer homes. This is not a particularly fancy neighbood, it is residential and middle class, fairly rural. You can walk to the ocean and a quarry where locals swim in 5-10 minutes. Getting AroundYou need a car to get anywhere in rural Maine. There is free parking for 2+ cars next to the house. Other Things to NoteThere is wifi, no password needed. There is a small TV and an Apple TV player (use your Netflix, HBO, or Hulu account), there is no cable. There is also no laundry in the house currently but there are several laundromats nearby in Ellsworth. Also the water is iron rich, we use an extensive filtration system to make the water drinkable, and there is a reverse osmosis spout in the kitchen which we use for drinking water and cooking. The shower water still can smell somewhat metallic but it is safe and well monitored by us and the water quality company we use.

The Huckleberry Hideaway was designed and built with much love and respect, with pine and granite from the retreat. The dining nook table is pub style giving you great views to look out upon the changing light, birds and wildlife. There’s a built in u-shaped window seat and comfy chairs facing the glass fronted wood stove. The radiant in-floor heat and the wood stove keep guests toasty year round. When damp, snow or cold winds keep you inside, you’ll be cozy and still connected to nature through the views provided by the ample windows. Guests of the Huckleberry have a private outdoor hot tub on the south patio and access to a wood-fired sauna on the quarry. The stewards of the retreat maintain gardens, hiking trails and swimming areas on this 100 acre old growth forest and granite quarry ponds. It's a 13-year old 3-bedroom log house, nestled among the evergreens, oaks, and Harbor Seals. Situated right on Taunton Bay. Nearly all the comforts of home here -- fridge, LP gas oven, microwave, piano, bikes, DVD/CD, fireplace, linens, W/D, and more stuff...not the least of which will be peace and quiet. About 45 min. from BHB/Acadia, 30 min. from Schoodic, and 3 hrs. from Baxter St. Park (and all the Moose). Hancock has four wonderful restaurants, incredible as that sounds. Ellsworth, the closest "town", has everything you'll need, and it's a not-too-close 8 miles away. What else can I tell you? Look at the photos and you'll see what awaits you. You'll have near total privacy, although you should be aware that I work in the cabin on the property from time to time. Also, pets are encouraged, not just permitted. Okay. Look forward to hearing from you. Peace, Gerry. PS - Stay here and get 20% off at The Bangkok Restaurant and 20% off anything at Monteux Gallery!! PPS - Trump supporters are NOT welcome here. The house sits on a hillside surrounded by 14 acres of land (woods, meadows, lawn around house) with no neighbors in view. A meadow slopes down from the house about 200 feet to the bay, in which you will see a variety of water birds and over which the sun sets. Enjoy morning coffee on the sun porch, eat at the table on the deck, sit on the shoreside bench and watch the changing colors of the water plus the occasional lobster boat. Taunton Bay's tidal waters are relatively shallow in our cove (mean depth 3') and thus warmer than the ocean. Children will enjoy climbing on the rocks and playing on the cobble beach and in the calm water. Beyond the cove the bay affords good kayaking or canoeing, with seal haul-out rocks, a deep channel heading seaward, and reversing rapids at Tidal Falls park in Hancock. A large, fully- equipped kitchen has sliding glass doors to a three-season sunporch; sliding screen doors lead from the porch to the main deck. The living room has a gas-burning fireplace, flat-panel TV, futon couch and rocking chair. The dining area has a table and six chairs; a card table can expand the seating or be used for puzzles and games. Sliding screen doors from the dining area also open to the main deck. There are three bedrooms: 1) a master suite with screened windows on three sides, a queen-size bed, double sinks, a walk-in shower, ceiling fan, and a walk-in closet with dresser; 2) a bedroom with a double bed; 3) one with two twin beds--both these bedrooms have built-in storage. There is also a futon in the living room and a roll-away bed for sleeping flexibility. The main bathroom has a tub with glass shower doors and includes a laundry area. A small deck with bench-rail outside the master suite is reached through the back door. You will find books, including dictionaries, novels, guides to the birds, flowers, trees, and other natural and historical attractions of the area, children's books and games, and some art supplies. Activities: Bar Harbor offers sightseeing and whale-watching boat trips, art galleries, and a fine museum of native American culture. Acadia National Park has many hiking and biking trails (cross-country skiing in winter) and magnificent views. It also has an ocean beach and a nice family beach at Echo Lake.
