The SpaceLovely wood barn built in 1990 that has been converted to a three bedroom house. The southern face and bright interior make for a cheerful space no matter what the weather or the temperature outside. Nice rugs, comfortable couches and reading chairs make it a cozy place to hang out and relax. The dining table can seat 10 comfortably and the host will often invite friends over for dinner and include the guests. Guest AccessThe main access to the barn/house is a non descript barn door inside of which you will find a keyed lock opening into a beautiful home. Depending on arrival times we will make arrangements for access to the keys or be there to greet you. Once you have arrived your schedule is your own access wise. There is a refrigerator and kitchen area with a bar/eating area with four stools for sitting and talking in addition to the living room and dining area. Interaction with GuestsAlways interested in speaking and interacting with the guests and asking about their interests and helping them have a successful and relaxing visit. I have traveled extensively throughout the states and the world so i can help with any and all interests. There is also an extensive supply of books in the house so if someone wants to curl up in a chair or just sit in one of the rockers out on the porch they are welcome to do so. The NeighborhoodMy house is located in the North Hollow area of Rochester which is a high meadow at 1400ft. The road we are on is a dead end with 6 houses. It is very peaceful with nice neighbors, hay fields, cows at different times of the year, and lots of wildlife. It is a year round community that caters to summer folks, skiers, bike riders, Middlebury College, Vermont Law School, Norwich University, UVM, VTC, NECI. St Mike's, St Joseph and Dartmouth graduates. You can relax at the house and unplug from the world or make forays out into town and or the surrounding attractions. Getting AroundRochester is centrally located in Vermont and accessible by car. Roads are well maintained so that folks can get to work, to a ski area or to anything else they might want to see and or do. An hour and fifteen minutes from Burlington Airport (BTV). Thirty minutes from one Amtrak line and forty-five from another. Rochester is 3 hours from Boston, 3.5 to Montreal, 4.5 to NYC. Under an hour to the Dartmouth/Hanover area. There are buses and trains outside of the valley. Other Things to NoteSame day reservations are not accepted, i am running airbnb/home not a hotel. Rochester is a lovely town with a great mix of Vermonters and what we call flatlanders(folks born outside of Vermont). Rochester has lots of theater with the White River Valley Players, concerts on the green, events at both Pierce Hall and an annual Suzuki event. It is only 20 minutes from the Middlebury College Breadloaf campus. The Warren/Waitsfield area home to Sugarbush, Mad River Glen and the Green Mountain Ski Academy are a half an hour to the north. Lots of summer residents from around the globe were campers in Vermont at Keewaydin, Killoleet and Windridge Tennis. www.middtastingtrail

The SpaceA charming retreat and event location for weddings, reunions, anniversaries, parties and small events. It offers 9 tranquil, country bedrooms in an antique farmhouse hotel that was lovingly re-envisioned and rehabbed to retain its history in an updated way in 2013. It has a heated pool, gazebo and poolside lounge area, event barn, reflection pond, grill, fire pit, places to eat outside and sits on 17 acres in the mountains. Immense skies, dirt roads leading through 'sugar houses' (old barns where maple syrup is made), cows, goats and creeks. The scene is very tranquil and time moves at a tangibly more relaxed pace. The house is updated with a well-stocked, professional kitchen with a restaurant-grade gas range and oven. It has everything needed to cook pretty much anything. The dining room has 2 large antique wooden dining tables, antique China on display and is surrounded by 3 walls of windows looking out to the mountains. Catering is also offered for parties of up to 50. The living room has 2 large sofas that face a fireplace and just to the right, a flat screen with cable and DVD player. Antique oriental carpets sit atop antique wood floors and Vermont antiques including a 1700's butcher's block table can be found around every corner. There are small libraries and books all around the house as well. The interior is inspired by writers, the rooms named after and subtly themed by famous novelists. There's strong WiFi throughout the property, internet-related work can be done poolside and there's a lot of space for parking. Vermont's Mountain View is a unique event location with a lot to offer, including a wedding tent for up to 80 guests, set between 360 degrees of mountains and sky. There's a large barn that can accommodate storing any amount of winter sports-related equipment. Spring in Vermont can be muddy, but also beautiful and adjusted rates are offered for spring. Vermont's Mountain View was envisioned and lovingly assembled to environment of tranquility, creativity and relaxation, while in good company and very well fed. The NeighborhoodRochester is a surprisingly beautiful little town you would never guess is only a 10-minute drive from the retreat. It has a well-stocked Grocery Store (with great selection of wine, beer and liquors), A Superb Cafe / Bakery / Bookshop, A Farmer's Market, A Bike Rental Shop, A Country Restaurant an Art Gallery and Many Seasonal Events. Beyond Rochester, Vermont has a lot to offer and our staff will be happy to help direct you and make suggestions for many local activities, restaurants and destinations. Getting AroundA member of our staff will can always pick you up and drop off you off the the airport, train station or bus station. Due to the nature of Vermont being a very spread-out state, renting a car is strongly recommended if you wish to explore outside of the retreat. Other Things to NoteThe retreat is sometimes shared with a writer’s workshop called "When Words Count". So, sometimes you'll be sharing the grounds with some aspiring writers during your stay. This workshop includes a 3-course dinner for their writers. If that’s something you’re interested in, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance and we’d be happy to include you for dinner. The SpaceOur log home is at the end of a town maintained road and offers privacy, views, activities and relaxation without ever needing to leave the property. Fish, play yard games, skate or snowshoe onsite. Or head down to town for a wonderful meal at the Huntington House Inn, Doc's Tavern, School House BIstro, or have an ice cream at the Rochester Cafe's soda fountain. Into hiking or playing in the White River? We're just a couple miles away from the Green Mountain National Forest ranger station and a river put-in spot. Tubing is one of our favorite summer activities! Guest AccessThe whole house is available to use. There is a master bedroom, family room, living room, kitchen and 1.5 baths on the first floor, and two more bedrooms upstairs plus an additional living room for added sleeping space. Interaction with GuestsWe are available by phone and text and live just over an hour away. The NeighborhoodOur home is just 3 or so miles up a hillside from Rt 100- the scenic skiway of Vermont! It is on a nice, level partially open 10 acre plot surrounded by woods. There are no streetlights or traffic, just nature. If arriving by night, be sure to get the best directions from us, not GPS! (can be hit or miss in VT!) Also, it is 30 minutes north of Killington/Pico and 25-30 minutes south of Sugarbush/Mad River Glen, all served by route 100. If you see one of our resident moose, take a picture! Other Things to NoteAWD or 4WD recommended in winter. Our road is town maintained, but this is still Vermont, after all! And this being Vermont, the heating system consists of a soapstone wood stove plus a gas floor furnace. The two together serve to warm up the home and its naturally insulating log walls. Instructions for the wood stove are provided in the house info we provide, but please contact us if you are not experienced or comfortable with using a wood stove. Also, as the house is in the country and on a well, expect a sulfer smell to the water that is completely safe but one of the quirks of country living. We drink bottled water due to a taste preference and water will be supplied to you in the refrigerator. The odor does dissipate after being in the house for a while.

The SpaceThough I had to list my home as an apartment, in fact it's an L-shaped two-family house. Your bedroom is as far as possible from my neighbors, who are very quiet. Guest AccessThe upstairs is nearly all yours alone: I use the upstairs bath once a day for 20 minutes only. Everything in the shower caddy--soaps, shampoos, and conditioners--is for your use, I provide plenty of towels, and you're welcome to take home the Vermont Soap samples you'll find in your room. The fridge and the use of an excellent, large microwave are included. Interaction with GuestsI'm happy to be of assistance. The NeighborhoodA de facto cohousing neighborhood, born of the remnants of an old hippie commune. Hundreds of acres of wilderness and rural lanes are right out the door. Getting AroundNearest regularly scheduled public transport is Amtrak in Randolph and Rutland. Buses go to Middlebury. Car (or bike in warmer weather) necessary to get here. Other Things to NoteIn wintertime, a 4WD/AWD vehicle is advisable for staying here. There is no regularly scheduled public transportation in this area; The Stagecoach is a subsidized regional carrier by appointment only.
