Interaction with GuestsAs members of the Hash House Harriers, (drinkers with a running problem) we encourage our guests to take advantage of the numerous running clubs we belong to. You can walk, run or just sit around and hurl insults at each other and make friends with the other non runners while the crazy ones are out running through the forests. Weather permitting and availability of dry wood, guests can also build a fire at night to sit around and exchange stories, share photos, set one another on fire and get to know each other better. You can also accompany us on our numerous trips around the area running errands and food shopping. The NeighborhoodI am located in a small village with all the sites, smells and sounds you would expect from a Thai village, Including monkeys, roosters, dogs, lizards, chickens, birds, insects and chanting monks. Sorry to disappoint a few of you, but there are no night clubs, karaoke shops, go-go bars or lady boy shows in the village. There are boxing matches, but you have to go over to the neighbors house to see that. It takes about 30 minutes to drive from the city of Chiang Mai to my place (Excluding rush hour). Just off a main cycling route to the city. You will see many cyclists coming and going to the city day and night for training exercises and fun. We are close to the Chiang Mai Grand Canyon, National Park and the famous Baan Tawai Handicraft Village. Getting AroundPick up and drop off from Chiang Mai International Airport, the bus and train stations or any other place around town is 200 Baht each way. So there is no need to worry about how to find or get to my place or renting a taxi. There is no bus service. No matter where you hide, I WILL find you. As we are far from the city, renting a motorbike (Which we do at 200 Baht a day) is the easiest way to get around on your own and explore the area and sights. They are 100 and 125 cc engines, so not very big. No gears. All automatic. (You should have some experience riding motorbikes to rent one.) If you cannot drive a motorbike, I can drop you off and pick you up at sights around the area for low cost, round trip fares. Otherwise, you can just sit around and relax in one of our hammocks or go for a hike in the national park. We also have bicycles for rent for 50 Baht a day for shorter trips. You may use the bikes for free to get to the Garden Restaurant and minimart. We also offer cheap off the beaten track tours to national parks, caves, waterfalls and other nearby attractions that city tour agents don't go to or know about. If you decide you want to go back into the city to explore and don't want to go by motorbike and want to go by car, I charge 300 Baht each way for gas, drop off, pick up and waiting time. Other Things to NoteWe serve breakfast and dinner on the property. For lunch, there is a beautiful garden restaurant in our village a kilometer away that serves great food for a low price or you can purchase one of our homemade ready to eat frozen entrees that you can heat up in a pan or microwave. Breakfast is 70 Baht or less and dinner is 90 Baht. A new restaurant is also open for dinner 2 kilometers away. If you wish to cook your own meals, we have a new outdoor kitchenette you may use. There is a refrigerator and cabinet to keep your food in. A western style supermarket and fresh local market are located 20 minutes away. There is also a 7/11, ATM, pharmacy, restaurant, coffee shop and petrol station 4k down the road and a German bakery/restaurant 6 kilometers down the road. And as always, drinking water is always free as we have a water purification system. When you enter the National Park from my location, which is free, there are hundreds of trails to hike, run or get lost on. You may also volunteer at the local dog shelter, (Care for Dogs) which is 20 minutes away, if you are staying longer than a week, they have a 2 or 3 day orientation program before you can volunteer. You may look them up online. Sometimes the internet may be slow or cut out for a short while, especially during the rainy season. If you are a busy C.E.O. of a large international company or need to immediately show everyone on F.B. you had coffee and toast for breakfast for the sixth day in a row, then the village life is not for you.
