The SpaceThis beautiful and authentic 900 sq ft log cabin (we built it in 1989 of nice big fir logs) is perched about 90 feet above magnificent Hood Canal -- a deep and expansive salt water arm which forms the western shore of the Kitsap Peninsula and Olympic National Park. The cabin, with large front windows, faces due west; a perfect orientation for incredible sunsets and westerly summer breezes. The cabin floor plan is open, permitting an unrestricted connection between the high beams of the living room, kitchen and dining area, which overlook the bluff and Olympic mountains. The bedroom and bathroom are somewhat separate. A large stone, wood burning fireplace (with complementary firewood), mostly used for evening ambiance, is central to the living room, with a remarkably efficient Danish-built Efel propane stove as central heat. The kitchen has all the amenities you'll need, full gas range and oven, microwave, toaster, a Keurig coffee maker, large refrigerator, but we do not have a dishwasher. And oh boy! Wait until you step outside! A partially covered full-length deck with hot tub and BBQ affords hassle-free outdoor living in any weather, amidst beautiful native plant gardens and sweeping vistas of water and mountains. Although we're not a remote setting, our garden of dense cedar, mature rhododendrons, flowering dogwood and tall firs (with a family of osprey in one) that surround the cabin assure you of privacy and a real sense of seclusion. Yet with an adventurous spirit, fine dining, a host of outdoor and cultural activities, as well as the ferry to downtown Seattle, are all within a 45 minute or less drive from your cozy retreat. Guest AccessOur guests have access to the whole house except for a small office and the loft area, which will be closed off. THE BEDROOM is essentially for one or two. The bed is high standing and has a queen size Serta mattress and a memory foam top. It's comfy and firm (not hard). You'll sleep well. Night stands with reading lights are on both sides of the bed. There's a small closet, ample shelves and a dresser. THE BATHROOM is small, with a full tub, shower and great water pressure. THE LIBRARY has something for just about everyone; history, drama, humor, you name it. Yes, there's a flat screen TV and DVD (Blueray) if you need entertainment in the midst of all this beauty. Interaction with GuestsAs your hosts, we'll be available to show you around the house and property, and then we'll leave you on your own. We'll be available by phone if there are any problems that come up. The NeighborhoodIf there's a bit of wanderlust in you, and just relaxing with a good book and enjoying cabin living and its spectacular setting isn't quite enough, there's a ton of stuff to do and some nifty places to visit just around the corner and just below the bluff. Beach access is about a 10 minute walk away, and our beach has its share of clams and oysters. Yum! Bald eagles, osprey, great blue heron, countless ducks and sore birds are regularly encountered on beach walks and from the bluff during the months of spring and summer. The eagles are here nearly all winter long. Historic Port Gamble, and early 1900's architecturally faithful and once active New England style lumber mill town, now somewhat gentrified, is a mile away as the crow flies. There's a complete kayak rental shop there that caters to those of you who crave tranquil waters and shoreline exploration. About 25 minutes away is Poulsbo, a historic Norwegian village and yacht basin that has great shops, a true Scandinavian bakery and a half dozen really good restaurants (there's a guide in the cabin). Once across Hood Canal via a floating bridge there sits a mountain range so rugged that US Highway 101 was built around it rather than over it. From the cabin's high vantage point, rugged mountain peaks rise west of Hood Canal and Hood Head to over 7000 ft above sea level.

Whether looking for a couple's retreat, a weekend with friends, or a family getaway to build sand castles and driftwood forts, the Kingfisher Beach House is the perfect combination of architectural and natural beauty. Nestled peacefully toward the end of a forgotten beach road, this home brings the Olympic Mountains and Admiralty Inlet into every moment of your vacation. The 'Kingfisher' is so close to the beach that we built it on stilts and from almost every angle of the angular home you are greeted by water. At night, you will fall asleep to the chuckle of churning waves, and in the morning your eyes will open to soft light painted on the snow-capped Olympic Mountains. Once inside, you are surrounded by craftsmanship at its very best. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking and baking, and the open floor plan allows you to be part of the action while you create. The main house has three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, a walk through closest for stowing your stowables, and a two-headed shower to refresh you after your day of fun. Downstairs are two more bedrooms, one with a queen bed, and the other with twin-size bunk beds. The main level shower was designed after a Japanese shower room - large enough for multiples, with a deep soaking tub and showering area all in this same room. Feel free to let you kids splash until their splashers are tired, as this entire room was designed to get wet. This home was just completed and is now ready for you and your friends and family to relax at the beach. While staying at the Kingfisher, you will experience this wonderful beach location with the comfort and privacy rarely experienced on beach property. Walk 200 yards south down the beach and you will be exploring over a mile of undeveloped, protected beach and tidelands. On any given walk, you and your friends and family will be sharing this space with kingfishers, eagles, osprey, seals, otters, and all of the tide-pool critters that live in the shallows of the Puget Sound. Keep your eyes on the water while you are cooking dinner or sitting on the deck and you might also see the porpoises patrol the beach. Please note that during the salmon run you can put on your hip-waders, secure a buzz bomb to you favorite pole, and cast with abandon. It is a well-kept, local secret that this beach yields some of the best salmon fishing on the island. If you have kayaks, bring them along, a quick shove off from your beach will have you exploring some of the most beautiful coastline on South Whidbey. The house has WiFi, a flat-screen with DVD player, and is the perfect place to sit by the fire and watch the game. The deck has adirondack chairs to lounge in, and a charcoal grill at the ready so that you can feed the loungers. I guess the big rule for the house is to have fun - lots of it! My main, humble asking is that you treat our family home with respect. We love this place! The home was built so that your family and mine can enjoy the beach for years to come. Thank you so much for your interest and please enjoy the beach.

Enjoy this renovated beach front cabin! Just steps away from the historic Point No Point Lighthouse, this is the perfect location for a romantic celebration, a girls’ or boys’ weekend, or a family beach vacation. This beautiful spot seems worlds away from the hubbub, but is only an hour and a half from Seattle (including ferry time)—especially ideal if you only have the weekend and want to keep travel time to a minimum. If you are looking for a laid-back getaway, this is it! This property was once part of the historic Point No Point fishing resort, so it's a PRIME location (the original resort was established in the 1920s). We are located right on the primary shipping lanes, facing north to Whidbey Island and Mt. Baker; watching the boating/shipping traffic provides a real sense of Puget Sound maritime. The beach itself is a rare, sandy beach all the way to low tide (most Puget Sound beaches are fairly rocky). The three bedroom cabin includes a quiet master bedroom in back with a newer (2014) queen bed, two separate bedrooms each with twin bunk beds (also newer beds), an updated bathroom, a fully equipped galley kitchen, and an open concept living/dining area with an unobstructed view of Puget Sound. The front door opens onto a nice deck for relaxing, sunbathing and eating. There are lawn/play areas in the front and back of the cabin. Everything you'll need to enjoy your stay is already here: bedding, beach towels, sand toys, games, BBQ, deck/beach chairs. Vizio HDTV/BluRay with WiFi, Wii console, and Comcast TV/WiFi (local channels only, but excellent bandwidth to stream your favorite shows) are also included. Try exploring beyond the beach! Kingston and Poulsbo are fun for shopping/dining/movies, Port Ludlow and Port Townsend are less than an hour away, and the Hansville Store is not to be missed for ice cream, coffee and casual breakfast/lunch/dinner. The lighthouse area is a County Park with a sprawling beachfront and a bird sanctuary just feet from the cabin. This is traditionally a great salmon fishing area (check on open season dates for Marine Area 9 - Admiralty Inlet). You can launch your boat in Kingston, or just cast off the beach! Other activities include hiking/bike riding along the Hansville Greenway trails, shopping in Poulsbo and Port Townsend, and excellent golf courses are nearby @ Whitehorse (15 min), Gold Mountain (~1 hr), and Port Ludlow (45 min). We know you'll enjoy your stay, but please contact us with any questions!

People say that they really have bonded in a different way, being together in the space. ---- A natural paradise to soothe your soul The big open sky here offers an ever-changing view. Come curl up with a great book from our collection of mythology, spirituality, art, science fiction and fantasy titles. You may use our arts and crafts supplies to make a collage or watercolor. The lower level is a studio for sculpture, furniture-making, ginger beer brewing and writing. ----- Local organic flavor & color If you are a foodie or enjoy local, organic foods, you'll enjoy walking our orchard, feeding the chickens your table scraps, or grazing from a rotating supply of fresh fruits and veggies in our large year-round vegetable gardens. We know several fabulous cooks who use all local organic ingredients. Just ask and we can set you up with a delicious, unique dining experience. Ask to try a taste of our own micro-brew, Dr. Marvel's Ginger Brew, made here with organic ingredients. Or we may offer you a taste of homemade wine made with berries or fruit grown on the property. ---- Amazing trails for nature lovers This former 40 acre farm offers large open spaces with private trails, forested glens and a beautiful spring.
