The SpaceWe are a retired couple who have lived here full time for 14 years, with another 20 years vacationing in Harbert. We have designed and remodeled the house ourselves since we first bought it as an artist studio in 1991. Your space features a guest room with a queen size platform futon and private fenced patio space, with a private bathroom and separate entrance in a guest wing. There is an available 2nd bedroom for members of your party only, which has built-in bunk beds for additional guests. Guests have access to the shared kitchen/dining area through a hallway, and wi-fi connection. Outside there is a fire pit, a barbecue grill, and a fish/frog pond. We can help you find neat things to do in the area and give you directions. Please note: we have a small dog, part Maltese, part Poodle, who lives on the premises. Her name is Juniper, she weighs 14 lbs, and is friendly and good with children. We will keep her out of your area of the house, but if you have any concerns about her presence please contact us so we can make sure you are comfortable with her in the house. Guest AccessThe guest wing has its own entrance at the side of the house, as well as as a hallway leading to the kitchen and great room. There is a private patio off the main guest room with access to the grounds. Guests are free to come and go as they wish, and to share our kitchen and dining area with us. The guest wing does not have its own kitchen. Interaction with GuestsWe will be around the house leading our usual lives. We're happy to share our space and talk as the occasion arises, but other than when you arrive to get oriented, you can keep to yourself as much or as little as you want. You have a completely separate entrance and driveway, and can come and go whenever you wish. The Neighborhood1/2 mile walk to Harbert, with 2 restaurants, garden center, Swedish Bakery, 2 galleries and a woodworkers' outlet. Our association Lake Michigan beach is about a 10 min. walk through the dunes the other way. If you are looking for boating opportunities, there is a launch ramp at Weko beach in Bridgman, while cartoppable boats can be put in at Warren Dunes. It is just a short drive or bike to Sawyer, Lakeside, Union Pier, Three Oaks, New Buffalo, Warren Dunes, and the many attractions, wineries, brew pubs, distilleries, parks and preserves of Harbor Country. St. Joseph, Fernwood Botanical Gardens, Sarett Nature Center and Berrien Springs are all about 1/2 hr. by car. Getting AroundDriving to get here is a must, but walking and biking once you're here can allow you to leave your car parked. Other Things to NoteThere are so many things to do around here that it is best if we discuss them with you rather than try to write it all down. Guest AccessYou will have access to the whole house, back yard and private beach. Interaction with GuestsI will be available at any time by phone and email, preferably by text. The NeighborhoodWe love going to a few places close to our home. I will list my favorites here. When I'm in the mood for wine or Sangria (they are a winery, distillery & brewery) I head over to Round Barn which is a 20 minute drive from the house. I can enjoy my drink while listening to a fun live band while sitting at a picnic table with the vineyards as my view. Check out there website for more details, (URL HIDDEN) A favorite on my fiancées list is, Greenbush brewing co. (5 minute drive from the house) Which is the coolest brewery closest to home and will not disappoint. Not only do they have a cool mug membership (which we are apart of) the place is simply very cool rustic looking and the food is simply the best bar food I've ever had. Soon they will be also serving wine and expanding even more in July 2016. Check out there website for more details, (URL HIDDEN) My favorite bakery is Nani's Cafe & Beach Shop (10 minute drive from the house) this place is so good you must go early because if you show up after 10am you are risking them selling out of the best home made muffins. My favorite are the maple bacon muffins but I love them all. My kids love there draft root beer and the coffee snob fiancé gives this place a thumbs up. There food is also great, check out there website for more details, (URL HIDDEN) Now if your into art and antiques like we are, then all I have to say is, welcome to art gallery & antique heaven. With tons on galleries, antique, cute shops and fresh markets during the summer weekends you will definitely add to your collection after visiting any of the galleries and shops Michigan has to offer. Also last but not least, garage sale heaven!!! If your into photography and nature like we are, please charge your phones & cameras and drive for hours while stopping and discovering all the beautiful views, farm life and nature Michigan has. If the beach is your thing or not please pack your backs and arms with all the beach gadgets we have stored for you and your family to use in the garage and head on down to our private beach, we will provide you with a map and be prepared to relax and enjoy. I'm not one to jump in the lake but while the kids are I'm walking the beach collecting beautiful rocks, cool fossils & seaglass that you will find in the house. Other Things to NoteUpdated 10/26/2016: The home for now has a Coffee Keurig so please bring your favorite K cups.
