The Space•CORE 1-BR APARTMENT: Relax in the Mountainview Room, furnished with a king-sized bed with a deliciously comfortable (but healthily firm) mattress.
•Additionally, two people can occupy two, separate twin-sized beds with good mattresses in the living room that serves as the entrance room to the apartment. These beds are hidden under couch-looking decor. (Please let me know if you plan to use one or both of these AS A BED, rather than as a couch -- in which case, before you arrive, I will remove the decorative daybed covering and make up one or both for sleeping purposes.)
•FOR AN ADDITIONAL $20 PER NIGHT, the huge Fireplace Room, with a king-sized bed, comfy sitting area, and corner dining table, is adjacent to the main part of the apartment. To use this room, just add in one "ghost" person to the number of actual people in your party; this will cover the additional $20 fee for using this room. (So if you are 4 people and you want this room, book for 5 people.)
•Bathroom has new, huge walk-in shower and is furnished with lots of towels, plus other commonly needed items such as soap, toilet and face tissue, hair dryer, etc.
•Prepare meals using the full-sized refrigerator, four-burner stove with oven, and microwave (with clean-up helped by having a dishwasher).
•Pots, pans, dishes, cutlery, dish towels and most everything else you might need are provided, except for grocery items (but 2 grocery stores are 4 min. away).
•Central heating and cooling. Guest AccessYou'll be on the lower, recently renovated level of my home, with the ability to secure your rooms and belongings with doors that lock. The apartment is yours entirely, with its own outside entrance – the space is not shared with the host or anybody else. Adjacent to the apartment, there is a laundry room furnished with a washer (and detergent), dryer, iron, and ironing board. This laundry facility may be used for no additional cost. Interaction with GuestsI'm typically upstairs in my own space (husband Jim is often away for his work), but I'm always happy to answer questions, point the way to local attractions, and loan whatever you might need. I'm pleased to interact as much – or as little – as guests like. The NeighborhoodMy home is situated on a unique ridge from which one can see the sun rise over Shenandoah National Park in the Appalachian Mountains and see stunning sunsets over George Washington National Forest in the Allegheny Mountains. Incredible opportunities for bicycling in the countryside are just outside my door. Hiking and fishing are short car rides away, either to the east or west. Getting AroundCity bus service is available nearby from stops at Eastern Mennonite University. Many people bike from my neighborhood to grocery stores, restaurants and other Harrisonburg activities, using well-marked bike lanes on streets. For outdoor activities such as skiing and hiking on public lands, you'll need a car for traveling 30 to 40 minutes to Shenandoah National Park or George Washington National Forest. Other Things to NoteI see this apartment as a great option for people who are in town for family or university events, or who may be visiting loved ones at nearby retirement communities. It's self-contained space in a peaceful, family-settled neighborhood. Great mountain views during seasons when leaves are off trees. I also have a one-bedroom suite with a queen-sized bed on my main level listed on Airbnb, titled "Enjoy mother-in-law suite in peaceful neighborhood."
