The SpaceSummer cottage on Chesham Pond Guest AccessDirect pond access with use of canoe and kayak Other Things to NoteThe cabin water is from a well. It is reddish in color (from iron in the area) and not the best for drinking water so count on using a filter or buying spring water for drinking / cooking. We prefer that you bring your own bed sheets and pillow cases. There are sheets available in the cabin but we ask that you leave them clean, so you would need to bring them to a laundry. The cabin does not have laundry facilities.

The SpaceTranquil, comfortably furnished apartment in large farmhouse surrounded by acres of fields. Private entrance and your own driveway. Quiet is the key. Artists, writers love this place. Gorgeous mountain views, plentiful birds and wildlife. Near lakes and many country attractions. Amazing walks or bike rides. Two hours from Boston or Portland, Maine, one hour from Worcester, Mass., five hours from NYC. Apartment is spacious and fully equipped, eat-in kitchen, living room, a glassed-in sunporch and a stone-floored open porch for good breezes. Bedroom has one double bed, and the living room has a fold-out couch. Available year-round by the week or the month. Wonderful place for someone transferring to this area or house hunting. We call this place Stillpoint. There is a reason. Guest AccessAlmost limitless except for the upper area, obviously the private backyard of the owners and, of course, neighbors. Always respect privacy of others. Otherwise, roads (mostly dirt) and fields are available for walking or hiking. One bike can be borrowed, with permission. Ditto one kayak. Always respect the wildlife that is here. Interaction with GuestsI am almost always here and more than happy to answer questions or provide guidance. I respect the guests' privacy and like my own but I'm available and happily accessible. Here when you need me. The NeighborhoodThe nightlife here is the night sky and silence. We have a lovely store a mile from this house. Wonderful breakfasts, delicious handcrafted sandwiches, salads, pies and cakes, cider doughnuts, and a daily dinner take-out (each night is a different selection). Keene and Peterborough each have wonderful and unique restaurants (no chains in Peterborough but Keene has the usual selection). Both towns offer a surprisingly wide selection of concerts, shows, and varied entertainment. But this is not a city. One man arrived here by car from Illinois hoping to find a place that would deliver pizza. Don't make that mistake! Call in advance so I can help you find what you need before you arrive. We always have breakfast items for you if you are arriving late and request it. Getting AroundNo public transportation or taxis available locally and sparse throughout New England. Keene has a bus service to Boston and New York (via Springfield MA). It's essential to have a car here. Logan airport in Boston is an hour and a half away. Manchester International airport in Manchester NH is an hour away. Both offer complete transportation services and car rentals agencies.

The SpaceThere are three bedrooms in one wing of my house where there is also one bathroom. There is a second bathroom in nearby hallway. It is good for families or couples who know each other. I won't rent rooms to more than one 'group' as the space is more conducive to friends or family. So even if one person rents a room I won't rent to others. I am 12 miles from Keene and possible restaurants about 23 minutes away. There is nice breakfast and lunch possibility at a country store 5 miles away in Harrisville. No restaurants close by. Guest AccessAccess through front door in summer and garage in winter because of snow. You come into central hallway and there are three bedrooms up in the wing where guests will be. The second bathroom is off the front hall. Also ping pong table and various games in a large game room. I have an office in guest wing and will try to access it only when guests are not present in order to ensure privacy up in guest wing. Interaction with GuestsI will be in another wing of the house and happy to answer any questions you may have. The Harrisville General Store is available for breakfasts and lunches and Keene is only 12 miles away for variety of restaurants for dinner. Peterborough is about half an hour away. I love this area and am happy to suggest hikes, ski locations, contra dance times and special local tidbits. The NeighborhoodHouse is on private drive and has 62 acres surrounding it. I am 20 minutes from Keene and about half an hour to Peterborough. Not much around here but fields, trees, lake and stars. Oh, there are deer, once in a while bear, and even on rare occasions moose. Getting AroundNot anywhere close to public transportation. You definitely need a car. Other Things to NoteAt this point I am not giving over use of my kitchen. So it is just the room(s). However if you want to place leftovers in the fridge that is fine. The lakefront access is about half a mile from my house, an easy walk or drive. There is a contra dance every Monday night in Nelson, about a mile away. It is the longest continually running contra dance in the country. And there is a lot of music in this area in the summer: Apple Hill Chamber Music, Keene Chamber Music, Monadnock Music. The Colonial Theater, Keene State College and Peterborough Players offer good theatrical shows.

Our family has been enjoying summers at our charming, rustic wood lake cottage for 4 generations. Entertaining family and friends, on the sunny hillside lawn looking out to the lake or around the fireplace in the comfortable living room or on our wrap-around porch, with exquisite lake views, is something both young & old look forward to year after year. The spacious porch brings with it the tranquil sounds of the water, lapping up on the 100 feet of shoreline,& even the mesmerizing pattering of rain, right beneath your feet. Whether gently swinging on the gliders or on the antique rockers in the warmth of early morning sun, hearing the laughter of children & families playing on the lake, strumming guitars, playing games, doing crafts, napping or reading a book, sharing stories at cocktail hour as the sun sets, enjoying BBQ'ing & eating at the porch picnic table looking out upon or engaging in the lake activities, or listening to someone playing the antique upright piano from the living room, the simplicities of life, on the porch & around the cottage, can't help but surround you with happiness. Activities are plentiful in and around the lake, like kayaking, canoeing, floating, fishing, swimming from the dock & private swim float. Fish for bass or head to Pierce Island State Park, in the lake's center, to swing from the rope, pick wild blueberries, swim & skip rocks at the beach, or hike it's interior. If you have a boat, enjoy the fun of tubing, waterskiing & wakeboarding. Bike around the lake or Pisgah State Park, Hike Mount Monadnock or Chesterfield Gorge. Golfing is available on the other side of the lake or in Keene. Local stands offer fresh produce from around the area, such as delicious corn, tomatoes, and berries( pick your own, if you'd like ). A variety of fantastic restaurants are available to chose from between Keene & Brattleboro. Enjoy the fine art & crafts of many local artists & craftsmen, go antiquing throughout the area, shop Keene's Faulkner & Colony Mill, or wander art galleries & museums. A twenty foot deck, with a screened porch at one end, faces the lake, which is less than 30 feet away. Sliding glass doors open out to the deck from the large living room, with fieldstone fireplace. The master bedroom has a kingsized bed, and walk in closet. One bedroom with twin beds also has a loft that children love (ages 5-12) as it's reached by a ladder, and is a great private space. Another bedroom in the cabin has one twin, and twin sized bunk beds. An outbuilding has twin beds and its own front porch. The dock holds several deck chairs, and a huge rock off shore makes a great jumping off spot. There is also a float. The lake is three miles long, and about 1/2 mile across at the Nelson end. One third of the shoreline of this lake is in conservation land, and much of the rest is still underveloped, so it is quiet, and water is chrystal clear.

Nature lovers delight! Secluded cabin, on a peninsula, on Silver Lake, at the foot of Mt. Monadnock. We get both morning and afternoon sun on each dock. One dock overlooks the entire lake and has a clear view of the mountain, and our other dock is in a quiet, private cove with wildlife all around. The peninsula is called Blueberry Point. It is covered with blueberry bushes, and in late July and August the bushes drip with native blueberries. Bordering our property are well marked Audubon trails and quiet dirt roads. The cabin was built in 1948 and has a beautiful fieldstone fireplace, 2 screened-in porches, and all the basic amenities. Come share our little bit of paradise, listen to the loons and water lapping, as you relax with a good book in the hammock, or take a day in nearby Peterborough or Keene where you will enjoy great restaurants and shopping... with lots of antiquing! Visit the historical town of Harrisville only 5 min. away with a traditional general store with great coffee, baked goods, soups, sandwiches and the New York Times! Take the kids to The Friendly Farm and let them nurse a newborn sheep and feed the goats, then off to mini golf and ice cream. For an active day, climb majestic Mt. Monadnock. Our renters always come back for the peacefulness that seems to balance their lives and gives them perspective. Keywords: Cabin, cottage
